I believe Patterson was still GM when we made those trades for Brandon and LaMarcus but as we all know, it was all KP doing it. Then Patterson resigned when Paul Allen didn't renew his contract during Brandon and LA's rookie seasons.

No, I think I remember Trader Bob drafting Outlaw before he left. It was his last decision as GM.

Joel was a John Nash move.

Martell might have been Patterson, but I wouldn't want to take credit for that one. He passed on Chris Paul AND Deron Williams. I don't think that's something to be proud of.
 
Pritch was instrumental in getting Webster + Jack. I recall the post-draft interviews where high fives were given abound.
 
Wasn't Patterson president, not Gm? So he maybe was president, when KP as Gm got Roy and Adridge, it's possible Patterson had the power to veto those deals, so I guess he could take credit for not doing that..

On the Webster thing, I always thought Pritchard wanted CP but Nash insisted on Webster but I think maybe KP engineered a trade to move up a couple spots to nab Jack.

He was President & GM after Nash was fired, I believe.

KP and Patterson have consistently stated the same things about how the Blazers conducted their business of scouting/targeting players... that it is a collaborative effort between coaching, management and ownership and that they share the credit/blame for the results. Many here seem to want to cut SP out of the credit department and give it all to KP because they felt Steve was an aloof jerk... whatever :rolleyes2: I do recall KP crediting SP as the one who worked the phones and pulled off the whirlwind of 2006 draft day trades that landed them LA and Roy, calling his efforts "masterful" and "awesome to watch". Certainly there is shared credit for targeting the right guys, but it seems Patterson deserves a healthy amount for playing the Blazer cards correctly in making the deals happen.

Looking at the history of players acquired, it sure seems better evaluations/decisions were made once Nash was aloud the chance to pursue other opportunities.

Bob wasn't the GM at the time we drafted Travis, but he did promise Travis that the Blazers would draft him. He was gone before the draft came around and John Nash honored the promise.

Whitsitt had resigned, but agreed to stay on as acting GM through the draft. Travis was his pick.

I was off on Nash being there, but as I stated, it was a promise to Travis Outlaw that Whitsitt made prior to the draft. The Blazers honored that promise, not Nash. It was a Whitsitt pick either way.
 
That was such a deep draft. I remember wanting the Blazers to select Barbosa with their pick.

when you're selecting down that far you don't really know who'll be available, but my hopes were Boris Diaw or Josh Howard. Obviously few if any of us had seen Barbosa, Diaw, or Travis, so we were largely stabbing in the dark. But I was pretty sure Howard would be a stud.

If it makes us feel any better Howard would probably have had to be shipped off for bad character reasons.
 
Bob Whitsitt is secretly still the real GM pulling the strings and making all these moves from his Ivory Tower on Whidbey Island.

KP, Nash, Patterson are all merely "fronts" created for PR purposes as Paul realized the Portland media would never come on board if they thought BW was still running the show.

that wouldn't make me feel any better as I'm a big fan of superior talent. If a guy is doing stuff as a Blazer that is truly detrimental/a real distraction to the club, then I'm for moving him, but thats for management to judge in context. We don't live in a vacuum so we don't know what Howard might have done as a Blazer any more then we know if Travis or Webster smokes pot in the off season. Besides, KP has repeatedly stated that he'd consider taking on a player with questionable public character... I'm going to laugh at the :ohno: posters when he eventually does.

What I'm sure of is that Josh Howard a much better player today then any of the Blazer SFs.
