They were in a good position to take risks in that they had a good young team already. And they're still risks - MPJ so far is like Anfernee - can he put his manifest offensive gifts to the service of the team? Will Bol Bol escape injury? He looks like a bundle of twigs. But then again, so did his dad.
The best thing that those guys could do for the team, I think, is be assets in a trade. I still hope for that for Anfernee.
Yikes. Racist, much?

Are you assuming that all people of Bol Bol's ethnicity look the same?
Nope. To say that a black human being resembles an inanimate object, not to mention a bundle of sticks, a Nazi imagery for the way people were bundled to be killed, is as racist as you can get.

I trust you'll campaign to stop the use of the term "Statue of Liberty Dunk" then.
When did I say anything about campaigning? At least the Statue of Liberty is the image of a person. When racism is pointed out, one should simply say sorry instead of deny deny deny. It was racist, dude. We’re all a little bit racist. Do some introspection.

unless its pointed out incorrectly.

Also with Statue of Liberty dunk you’re describing the dunk, not the person.

Im tall and fat.

and now im a racist because i called myself tall and fat...

Shawn bradley is white. If i call him a bundle of twigs(skinny)
Is that also racist???

smh....

Look: I get your point. It is very questionable to refer to historically oppressed peoples using dehumanizing terms. And it's entirely possible that my comparison was racist. But: first of all, "inanimate" is a red herring. You can compare anyone to the sun or a flower (or a statue) without it being insulting. You mean "dehumanizing" - like the Nazi tactic of referring to Jews as rats or cockroaches. And second, I think you inferred that I picked twigs because they're dark colored. I did not: I would refer to Shawn Bradley the same way (perhaps they'd have to be birch twigs in his case).
Finally: your "brand" of hyperbole is unhelpful in discussions of racism. If a person of color told me it was not okay or that I'd crossed a line, I would take it a lot more seriously, and definitely delete the post.

Racist???
How is saying someone is tall and very skinny racist? Is there some reference to wooded branches i'm missing here?

I thought this was a reference to his long and thin physique - I am not a person of color - so I really can not tell you if someone else would consider it racist - but it certainly did not bring this image to my mind nor am I aware of any connotations of that nature. I think this was an inappropriate call on Rasta - and were I Eric, I would apologize to him unless he can show the term used as a racist slur.

He didn't say he was tall and skinny. He compared him to a bundle of sticks. Rasta gets it. No need to further discuss.

It was not racist at all. I do not believe calling someone a bundle of sticks is a racist term. Probably demeaning, but not racist.

Just because it didn't offend you, that doesn't make it not racist.

It is not racist because it was not about the race of the individual - but his physique which is shared with many races. Words have meanings - it is usually a good idea to use them appropriately when you accuse others of things.

I would still say that if someone should apologize here, it is you.

Dude all he’s doing is literally saying his body looks like a stick. And quite frankly it certainly does
Actually its doing a bit worse. Its false claiming, which is undermining to the actual movement against racism. If we start considering anythign offensive as racist, then the true racists will be able to swim freely through the chaos, rather than singled out correctly.

It is racist. As he said, referring to an historically oppressed people in a dehumanizing way is racist. Yes, many races can look similar but referring to black men who were brought to this country to slaves as a bundle of sticks is racist. I have to call it out when I see it. We all do.

He said a bundle of sticks. Completely different. Race matters. While calling a white man a stud, for instance, may seem one way but calling a black meman whose race was bred like animals and soled as slaves a stud is racist. Calling Joel Przybilla the vanilla gorilla may not be racist but calling, say, Patrick Ewing a gorilla is racist to the nth degree. See the difference?

Dude, you're out of your damn mind.

Now I'm confused. Would it be racist to ask a black man if he likes his coffee black? Cause Eric just listed some things that could then be extended to many many things in life....

Shit, some mod should move all this irrational racist bs to an OT thread. Use me as a starter for all I care. LOL.

Anyhow. Screw the NBA. This is a Blazers forum and we be crushin on Friday!
