Strangely depressed (3 Viewers)

Jones isn't media but he certainly acts like it. But he has to understand that if there isn't a tweet from Haynes every other day about Dame trades, or Dame himself isn't out on a random podcast acknowledging other teams he'd like to play for, people would be geneally excited instead of tense and depressed.

Like, come on. Dude signed a supermax extension less than a yr ago and is on lock for 5 more years. If you wanted to act like a free agent, don't sign the extension. Sit back and let Cronin do his job. I'm certainly no Joe fan, but I feel like his work is getting unfairly scrutinized because of Dame and his mouthpieces.

Another reason I'm souring on Dame. He's putting himself before the team and making the organizations job much harder if not impossible. Let them build the team or ask for a trade, don't try to pull a LBJ/Durant powerplay.

I think Dame just wants to have a competitive team and is done with tanking.

Probably best way to appease the most Blazer fans is draft BPA at 3 but acquire some vets at low cost like DeRozen, Porzingis, etc. Somewhat similar to last off-season. If we fill out the bench with legit vet minimum guys it could make a real difference in more wins vs last year's shit backups.

Not saying that's the best option, just the least upset Blazer fans.

I just hate the idea of trading any of Sharpe 3 Ant if we don't contend immediately (which I suspect is unrealistic)

Yeah many would be upset if we trade Dame, but I'd say less now than at any time in many years. I think the success with Sharpe has many more fans ok with building with 3 plus more youth.
If you trade 3 for good value that should get you an All Star. If you trade Ant for good value that should get you a near All Star, or at least very capable legit starter. Add two players like that to what we had last year (assuming a more balanced roster) and we're not tanking. We'd probably be contending for HCA.

Puke, I'd much rather have Ant and 3 then Ayton and Siakam. That team isn't contending and now we lost 2/3 of our youth. I'd be very upset with this.

Just draft BPA and run back last year's group is much better.
Ya see there. This is the I told you so win column

I just want this to be over one way or another and no matter what way to goes there will be fallout and just getting tired of the drama and this will continue til Aug at least.

I usually LOVE draft time. But this year I just can't get excited because I have the sinking feeling we're going to fuck it up like we did with the Chris Paul draft.
I have NEVER been more stressed out over a Draft , than I have been for this one. Not even close. And it's because my favorite all time Blazer is being bandied about on National Radio, and thrown to the wolves in this Forum. My heart actually is struggling to deal with this. I've become physically disturbed by what i hear and read.

I get it. I obviously put too much stock into being a fan. But it's a labor of love. It's my escape from the world. I love life in general, but because of the meanness that has taken hold in our society, and our country , whether it be politics, or driving, or even going to the freakin' grocery store , i can't turn it off. Because i'm not wealthy enough to insulate myself from it.

Then i come in here , because i want to be excited about the possibilities of adding around this amazing Blazer, and way more than i thought want to just throw him to the curb for some young, wet behind the ears, dude , who doesn't know what it means to have talent. And how hard the work he is going to have to put in , to even sniff the success Dame has accomplished in Portland.

It's more than just the Blazers, or Dame. It's the decline of America. The "Flavor of the moment" that permeates our very existence here. No one seems to care about loyalty. Companies don't, teams don't, couples don't, fans don't .

Something that should be fun has become like everything else here. Polarizing, a battle, a fight, WAR. "It hurts my heart" is a slogan my mom, who battled her demons all through her life due to abuses growing up, and bad decisions as an adult , use to say. Because it really does hurt.

I took a hiatus from this forum during the season. Even though the season was tough, Dame ,until he was shut down, Again! provided amazing memories i will never forget. My daughter and i were at the Houston game where he scored 71. I will never forget it, or the feeling before the game. It was electric. He has given me, as a Blazer fan, more great memories than i can count. I've cried more tears of happiness because of his game heroics, time and time again.

I don't want his Era to end. I know it will when he retires. But it's entirely to soon to end his era as a Blazer.

I'm excited for this Draft. TO BE OVER!

You are Dame's cousin and I claim my $5.

Seriously though, I don't think(Or at least I don't get the vibe) that people are outright bashing him, more just discussing on what is best for the team going forward, with or without Dame. I think most would love to build a team around him and get him that ring that he deserves for being a Blazers legend as he is. However, that is easier said than done.

I love the dude as much as the next person and will be sad IF he leaves. However, I am a Blazer fan first and foremost, and will let it go and cheer on whoever replaces him in the star role.

You might want to speak to a professional about this.

Simons, Little and Johnso
For
Ayton and a pick

Then 3 for Siakam

That helps Phoenix
That helps Toronto
That helps the build around Dame crowd
That helps the trade Dame criwd say “I told you so”

If your keeping score at home, that’s a win, win, win , win scenario
That doesn't help us. Trading #3 for Siakam and needing to pay four guys $30m+ a year is an L in my book.

...and it still wouldn't get past the first round.
Disagree. I think it could battle for home court and depending on matchups get past a few teams.

I'm expecting Sharpe to take a step to consistent 15-20 ppg scorer as well.

Also, people really undervalue Siakam as the second banana. I would say the ceiling of guys like Scoot/Miller is about where Pascal is now.

There's your issue. You're putting an expectation on Shae, which I'm not doing.

However Shae progresses will be great, but I'm not factoring it into any decisions with team building this summer.

But you do you.

Dame
Sharpe
Siakam
Ayton

Would be the best team we've fielded in a decade
It better be if $120m+ is going to four guys on the payroll so...
"best team we've fielded in a decade" is not that high of a standard considering how much you'll be paying them.

Let's just say I wouldn't advise you to bet your house on that.

I would not bet on my house either way. It all depends on matchups.
If Minnesota does not choke in the 4th quarter/OT play-in game against the Lakers, LA ends up playing Denver in round 1 and never makes it out of the first round.

This is weird because I'm not so strangely extremely excited. We have the number 3 pick in a three player draft. There is absolutely no telling what might happen. There are dozens of trades that could happen with the pick outgoing to build around Dame. We could decide on a youth rebuild and trade Dame. Although I would frustrated we could try to straddle the line and just make our picks and hope Dame is cool with it. So many possibilities. It's really exciting time to be a fan of our team and being depressed right now is extremely strange because I think everyone should be elated.

I just don't see how Sharpe would get enough shots to score like that... he'd be the fourth or fifth option behind Dame, Grant, Siakam and (perhaps) Ayton.

Which would be GREAT if that team were good, but I see a bunch of empty scorers and while we might make it to the second round, we'd also have four massive contracts with three of the guys on the older side.

I'm definitely not saying need to clear the runway to let Sharpe get his, but I think he'd have troubles scoring at that level with that roster makeup.

I'm super-excited, too.

I think I've gone over the worst-case scenario in my head so many times that I can't be disappointed. I'm also a bit more optimistic (after accounting for the aforementioned worst-case) based on what the Blazers did last year at the draft by taking Sharpe.

There sure is a lot of PTSD going around in this forum. :(

Olshey is gone! Dame wants to stay! Cronin has given no indication whatsoever that he is in over his head. He's cleaned up the mess quite a bit, has assets, the #3 pick, and orders to make a move.

To quote our old friend Wheels, It's a Great Day to be a Blazer!

He averaged 10 ppg last year. If he doesn't take a step, why are we dealing Ant then?

Coach Billups would bench Shaedon immediately after making 3-4 buckets in a row. It was like clockwork, Sharpe would start heating up then get benched for Simons.

Of course this circumstance doesn't apply to every contest, but it was definitely there. Billups did the same thing with Nassir, and even Watford at times.

After a tough loss last season, one of the post game reporters delicately hinted that Coach Billups used a messed up lineup, yanking the Blazers bench guys after Portland had stormed back into the game with fast paced young bench player action.

Coach Billups objected to the idea he was making rotational mistakes by stating the infamous "I'm riding with my guys."
