Watching Mindhunter currently. Slow and dark so far. Could be really amazing.

Also, they needed to remove El from the central chaos because, well, we see how easily and quickly she can resolve things. Wouldn't have left much suspense. I'm not sure why the episode is getting so much controversy. Kinda nice to see a location other than the Hawkins lab or Byers house. Guess we can add Hoppers shack to our set rotation now, too.

Agreed. They still did a nice job with the writing and keeping the plot interesting, but, yeah, there was some staleness to it. My biggest pet peeve was the character shift, though. Season 1 worked for me because of the four little dudes, as they were the primary focus. I think the boys and their tribe mentality are relatable to a lot of males, especially the geeky males that end up in sports teams message boards when they become adults. Hopper, El, the older kids all stole scenes as secondary players, but the glue was the little tribe men. They weren't the focus season 2 and, for me, the show suffered a little for it.

I think there's two ways of looking at it. First, he's a perfect parody of 80's teen bad guy, and that's enjoyable because 80's teen bad guy was someone to equally loathe but not be all that afraid of. He'll embarrass or publicly shame the hell out of you, but he's not going to kill you or rape your mother or whatever furthest reaching heinous act the modern day teen villain does (both fictionally or real). So, they can keep him in this mold, which is fine, because 80s teen bad guys rarely found redemption and they'd be honoring the time period again.

Or, they go the more modern day route and cast him down the road of redemption, and make him out to be more than an asshole. They'll probably go that route in the end, because that's what Hollywood does. Plus, they gave us the scene with his dad which implies he's probably a victim made asshole, rather than a veritable, bona fide one.

And the fact he wouldn't go along with the other scientists and kill will. He actually seemed to care beneath the asshole exterior

Just finished re-watching S1 with the wife. About to start 2 tonight. At the beach, perfect Netflix weather.
 
OK, Mrs. FromWA and I finished the binge this week...

First, the final 5 minutes of the show gave me PTSD to every dance from 7th grade to getting shot down for prom. Including the crying in the corner. Except I never had the modern-day Mia Sara come up and dance with me to soothe my feelings.
Second, agree with everyone else about a) Chicago being kinda dumb, but also b) having to be in there for the authentic homage (I was getting flashbacks to Adventures in Babysitting) and for foreshadowing. Where's 1-7, 9 and 10?
Mike was getting on my nerves as well. Then again, puberty plus losing your girlfriend was probably weighing on him.
The whole "I don't wanna be Winston!" "Why do I have to be Winston?" scene was awesome.
The whole episode where Bob bought it, my wife and I were saying "he's so totally going to die, but is it a teaser here, where he escapes this episode to get hit by a truck later, or does he get eaten here?"
The tension in the scene with Mike's mom and the CA dude was awesome...same with when Nancy and Jonathan eventually did it.
 
When Nancy and Jonathan finally hooked up, my wife actually clapped. It was hilarious.
 
What a fantastic show this has been. I love it. The pop culture references, the music. All of it. These kids are exactly my age if I'm correct.
