This is a great documentary. I watched it 2-3 years ago.

Student loans are like a tool. They work well if you know what you are doing and understand how to use them.

Unfortunately only 10-15% fall into that category & are benefited by them. I'd say 50-60%+ are harmed more by the student loans than the benefits they get....

A lot of kids think they get out of college and deserve a 6 figure job immediately. Doesn't usually happen. College degree gets your foot in the door and generally gets you a higher ceiling than someone without a college degree. Just have to make sure you pick the right degree.

Things like that should be taught more in high school. I remember having one class in high school "getting you ready for college." They didn't really teach us much.

Trades are great too. That's something I high schools were lackluster in teaching.

I would vote for a "it depends" option if you had it. Student loans are a great idea for someone without the means to better themselves as long as they pick the right major.

Student loans would only be a positive if they had maximum payments of 5% of a person's salary (no payments required if the person were not earning the national average), and had to be forgiven after 10 years.

This was a rather eye-opening documentary.
