Religion STUDY: AMERICANS BECOMING LESS CHRISTIAN, MORE SECULAR

Have you driven a car lately? In my opinion, driving is the epitome of the "Me-ness" that appears to be growing in our society.

I'm sure it seems that way as existing systems become more and more overcrowded. If you're suggesting that increasing impolite driving is caused by increasing secularism that's moronic (and prejudiced).

According to Bill O'Reilly (who is never wrong, according to him) rap music is the cause of the decrease in Christianity. I was unaware there was such good atheist propaganda in rap music; I may have to start listening to it.

According to George Carlin, mother's milk is the gateway drug to heroin.

Rappers give thanks to God about as much as country music stars.

Bill-O's spent so much time pandering to his paranoid, nostalgic, confirmation bias seeking, elderly audience that he's become one of them.

Personally I blame everything for everything. Why do things have to change?

Any Christian that knows better understands they sin and aren't perfect. The concept of being a Christian is to strive to be like Christ. Living a life of forgiveness, love and grace.

So if you live by Christ, your heart doesn't want you to live like that. It's up to the individual to follow that walk.

Are you saying Christ condoned sin?

Huh? No, I was calling BS on being able to tell if someone is a Christian or non-Christian by how they treat a mother at Red Lobster.

Next you'll claim there are no Christians in prison

That is likely a stretch Sly, but I can almost assure you that no one is in prison for acting out the teachings of Jesus as a Christian. That would be in this country, and sadly that may not be so in many others.

I call BS on that too.

Abortion clinic bombers are acting in the name of Jesus and Christianity.

They were deists. They were not at all christians. Something closer to Druids. As far as they were concerned, the "Creator" made nature and never was seen again. Church was an utter waste to them. Holy trinity denounced, didn't believe in Christ or Jehova. Natural Law, not a thing to do with the bible.

But I'm sure you know all that.

Thomas Jefferson. He wrote the Declaration of Independence that you cite. A document that isn't a legal document.

You might like to read the Jefferson's Bible. You can possible gain a little more insight it his use of the Creator in founding this country. Jefferson, like Albert E. that Jlpk referenced was an INTP character type (like myself) and I suspect that if he had lived in the time of Albert Einstein, he may well have been a Pantheists also. But evens so, his rather unique use of the Creator and his efforts of reordering the Bible should leave no doubt that he was not an Atheist. Not likely to believe in a personal god, or not even likely to believe Jesus was God, but that does not completely undo the power of the teachings of Jesus nor existence of God.

Ps.
Noting that the Declaration of Independence is not a legal document is a lawyer type play on words.
Of course it is not. It was the design specification for a new Nation, written before any legal authority of that nation was created, such as Congress.

I doubt Jesus would agree with how many use his name.

So then you agree, that blowing an Abortion clinic to hell has nothing to do with the Teachings of Jesus and therefore Christianity, and more likely the actions of an asshole reqardless of what he says.

Truth again brother.

Being able to achieve peace by not being assholes is simple common sense. It works for secular or religious. The fact that Jesus happened to say a few things that can be seen as advocating for not being assholes to each other is irrelevant. It just makes him moderately insightful for his time.

Referencing religion or the will of God shouldn't be (isn't) necessary to draw common sense conclusions on our moral responsibilities towards each other.

You're the one who is claiming that no one has ever done anything wrong or bad in the name of Jesus. I gave one example off the top of my head. Your position is ridiculous.

If people can do good in the name of Jesus, others can do bad in the name of Jesus.

I don't claim to know the cause, though I do know what I see.

Matthew 21-12
Jesus entered the temple courts and drove out all who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the benches of those selling doves.

Assault

Luke 6:1-4 One Sabbath Jesus was going through the grainfields, and his disciples began to pick some heads of grain, rub them in their hands and eat the kernels.
