Palin: Eliminate All Energy Subsidies

DILLSBURG, Pa. -- Asked Tuesday whether she supports the federal subsidy of ethanol, an always critical issue in the presidential nominating cycle, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin went one step further and called for the elimination of all energy subsidies.

"I think that all of our energy subsidies need to be relooked at today and eliminated," Palin told RCP during a quick stop at a coffee shop in this picturesque town tucked into the south-central Pennsylvania countryside. "And we need to make sure that we're investing and allowing our businesses to invest in reliable energy products right now that aren't going to necessitate subsidies because, bottom line, we can't afford it."

Wait a second, that was not moronic.

Wait a second, that was not moronic.

Yeah, it was.

"I think that all of our energy subsidies need to be relooked at today and eliminated,"

Saying "I think..." indicates she's unsure, guessing at best.

"need to be "relooked" at" (maybe that's an Inuit word?) and eliminated.

Why would you need to "relook" at something when you've already decided without basis that you are eliminating it?

"I think" is saying "I believe"

And "re-look" is a word:

Definition of RE-

1
: again : anew <retell>
2
: back : backward <recall>

re·look

Time for a relook at media stocks?

I'm guessing you had a public school education.

It's good to see in a matter of a month's time she has changed her mind!

If asked in specifics, she will say we need to keep oil subsidizing oil.

Maybe, but that's not what she is quoted as saying.

Whats your point? This energy thing is pure partisan. She is still in the pockets of big oil as are many on the right.

I ask this in all naivete...

If I actually believed in (Issue X), and the people I represent wanted (Issue X), and an interest for (Issue X) wanted to donate to my campaign, that's not illegal, right? Is it considered immoral?

He raised $750 million from nearly four million Americans
Holy cow. Did that all get spent campaigning? Is there a slush fund somewhere he can use for 2012? Where does excess go? Don't get me wrong, I'm not bashing him for raising money (I know McCain, Palin, et al also do) but just the mechanics of where it comes from and goes. And if a PAC says that:
During his time in the Senate and while running for president, Obama received a total of $77,051 from the oil giant and is the top recipient of BP PAC and individual money over the past 20 years, according to financial disclosure records
and his spokesman says
“President Obama didn’t accept a dime from corporate PACs or federal lobbyists during his presidential campaign
, then where does that money go?

My point is politicians should be held to statements like these. There's hope when a candidate at least makes these kinds of statements. There's no expectation if the candidate doesn't.

And my point is that its very silly to actually believe whats coming out of her mouth.

well, I get what she's saying. Although it's an issue that came later, it's kind of a "big picture" argument that she was trying to say. In the sense that she's clearly not saying that he actually warned the British (as the title implies) as much as he metaphorically warned them. Like a 'shot across the bow' sorta thing.

Err... I mean... what an idiot!

You do realize that President Obama got more money from BP than any other politician, right?

Do they teach you to think for yourself in college these days, or are your professors moderators at DemocraticUnderground?

"Relook" is a word. LOL

There is nothing better than somebody pulling out the Idiot Card while proving that they were wrong, and the Idiot was actually correct.

Yowza. She possesses a different kind of intelligence than other politicians and it shows here. She isn't particularly well-educated in the facts that we've been trained to care about. It makes her appear dumb when confronted when she's questioned by the likes of Charles Gibson and Katie Couric. However, she has terrific instincts about what makes up the American character and sees the
world unburdened by nuance. Being able to see in black and white can be a gift; it allows you to get past all the flotsam and jetsam of an issue and get to the heart of it. Taking a 2,700 page health care plan and boiling it down to "death panels", for example.

She's not my cup of tea, but I do understand her appeal.

BTW, you can tell when she's starting to get out of her depth by her hard blinking while she struggles with words. Obama does the same thing; it's painful to watch.

As much as I would welcome the grass roots type of candidate, some one who could create a groundswell of support from all of the people, as much as I would welcome a female president from simple means with straight forward Teddy Roosevelt no bullshit thinking...that is just painfull to watch.

Somehow I am hearing this song:

ramones said:
Lobotomy, lobotomy, lobotomy, lobotomy!
DDT did a job on me
Now I am a real sickie
Guess I'll have to break the news
That I got no mind to lose
All the girls are in love with me
I'm a teenage lobotomy

Slugs and snails are after me
DDT keeps me happy
Now I guess I'll have to tell 'em
That I got no cerebellum
Gonna get my Ph.D.
I'm a teenage lobotomy

Well, it looks like I learned something new...

1) The bottom line was unnecessary.

2) Why does it matter what Obama does? I'm pretty sure he isn't relevant to this argument.

It's funny how the right often complained about liberals bringing up Bush randomly (which they did), but love at any and every chance to bring up Obama now, and Clinton then.

Its also funny that righties enjoy personally attacking people they don't agree with.

the left does that too, but it doesn't come off as solid as the "you don't love America" type insults that the right heaps on those who don't agree with their view of things.

The difference is like "you are an idiot" vs "you hate America, and you're trying to bring down all that it stands for. And you hate God. And you're a socialist".

ok, so the left does the socialist/nazi thing too.

Except that Palin was actually correct about Paul Revere. Revere's own words back up Palin's factual accuracy. :)

I observed a Wood at a Small distance, & made for that. When I got there, out Started Six officers, on Horse back, and orderd me to dismount;-one of them, who appeared to have the command, examined me, where I came from,& what my Name Was? I told him. it was Revere, he asked if it was Paul? I told him yes He asked me if I was an express? I answered in the afirmative. He demanded what time I left Boston? I told him; and aded, that their troops had catched aground in passing the River, and that There would be five hundred Americans there in a short time, for I had alarmed the Country all the way up. He imediately rode towards those who stoppd us, when all five of them came down upon a full gallop; one of them, whom I afterwards found to be Major Mitchel, of the 5th Regiment, Clapped his pistol to my head, called me by name, & told me he was going to ask me some questions, & if I did not give him true answers, he would blow my brains out. He then asked me similar questions to those above. He then orderd me to mount my Horse, after searching me for arms

Derrrrr

I have to laugh at people who claim to be experts on Paul Revere, when their only knowledge of his ride is gained from a poem.
