Blazer pros:
* Noel could be a rich man's Tristan Thompson. He's that rarity who's among league leaders in both blocks and steals.
* He can guard everybody (in theory)
* currently fewer minutes for Crabbe (because of Turner) and he might be unhappy
* we would clear out a bit of money which might help us land (say) Gasol

Blazer cons:
* It's possible Noel is a colossal asshole (story about him trashing his rental)
* Noel might just be a stat stuffer who can't really play good defense
* his offense is pretty non-existent. We have too many non-shooters now.

Philly pros:
* Only way they'll get Crabbe because he's restricted
* they have way too many bigs and no shooting now
* Crabbe could really bust out this year

Philly cons:
* are you shitting me? A second round scrub for the guy who was the #1 guy in his draft class for years?
* never trade big for small

Thoughts?

Noel is the better player but Crabbe is the better fit, if we were to go through with this we would need to find another shooter super fast.

I think we have talked about this before. If you go get Noel, I hope Neil can secure a scoring center.

Maybe if Montero lights it up from deep in the summer league. Regardless I would do it if Noel is healthy. In the long run it would be a good trade. We would have a lot of PF's to trade for a shooter.

But I think Philly would want more

If I'm thinking about it, I would probably rather have Okafor.

I would to, but we can't sign and trade more than one player. And no way Philly is trading him or Noel for just Crabbe. (and I like Crabbe)

I like Crabbe but I'd seriously consider it.

Can we add a pick on a sign and trade? i have no idea
Anything can be added to a sign and trade if the signing doesn't put the signing team over the salary cap. If a Crabbe S&T is the first official transaction after the moratorium ends, we could attach a pick or a player if we needed to.

And we definitely would need to, because Crabbe isn't worth anywhere close to what Noel is.

Interesting. I thought that in a sign and trade you could not combine additional players with the newly signed FA and send them to another team. Good to know. Thanks

I love Noel's present and potential on defense, but a player with no ability to score is just too difficult to scheme around on offense. The Blazers would likely be playing 4-on-5 offensively when Noel was on the court and that went poorly even for the Warriors in the conference finals and Finals when Bogut or Ezeli was out there. Their spacing got extremely cramped.

To make this deal, you'd have to bet on Noel developing some offensive skills. A pick-and-pop jumper or strong ability to finish on pick-and-rolls and cuts.

Playing for the Blazers shoots your trade value through the fuckin' roof, apparently!

Sixers reportedly turned down Terrence Ross and sweeteners for Noel already.

Are you insinuating Ross has played for the Blazers?

Well, Ross kinda sucks.. Or are his stats just mediocre as all hell because of DeRozan and Carroll?

He's just average.

Most guys in the NBA can go off for 30 given the shots. The Raps have only asked Ross to bring 3+D every game and he's not a consistent player at this point in his career.

Feels like the kind of guy who will figure things out 7-8 years from now and be a better player as an older vet.

I brought it up because I don't know what Bryan Colangelo is looking for in exchange for Noel but I would imagine a package of Ross+ is worth more (but still not enough) than straight-up for Crabbe.

I don't think so, but maybe have a little side trade where we give them the pick for some guy they don't want. Although I am not sure if Crabbe might be enough; those guys are not really regarded that highly.

For sure? So we could add players to Crabbe in a sign and trade for Milsap from Atlanta?

And by the way, Doesn't Crabbe have to agree to a deal with the new club first; he'd be a lot more likely to want Atlanta than Philadelphia.

It could be done, yes, as long as we're not using a cap exception to sign him. If it's all inside cap space, players can be added, and there's no BYC restriction on his outgoing salary.

TRISTAN THOMPSON!

Splenda, Equal or Sweet'n'Low?

TRISTAN THOMPSON!

Yeah, and Cleveland's offense has often looked weakened with him in, IMO. They have LeBron James, one of the several greatest NBA forces of nature, to make it work. Dame is awesome and all, but he's more Irving than he is James.
