Summer '09 what to do?

Welcome to our community

Be a part of something great, join today!

The only guy I'd like us to acquire out of what you have listed is Carl Landry.

I don't see any players on that list of the caliber of Michael Ruffin.

Most people are gone now that the deadline has passed. This board will slowly decline in activity until the playoffs or until Oden goes off for 40 and 20 one night.

I like the list that you compiled and I'd have to say that Wallace or Prince are still the most attractive to us. The day of the deadline, the guys on 95.5 were talking to a reporter from Detroit and he felt that there was a strong possibility that Prince would not be with the team after this season.

If that's the case and we're able to land him, then a lot of people are going to have to owe KP an apology for freaking out on him after not making a deal. Prince would ideal here and we'd have Prince Jr. coming off the bench in Batum. Draft night and free agency is going to be mighty interesting again.

Im hoping to start making my canoe.

I know most people want to go for a SF or PG this summer but I think we should go for a backup banger PF. Someone that can rebound and play defense. I would first think about trying to get someone in the draft. If we can't then try to get a FA or trade for a backup PF. I think it would be the best for our team next year and beyond. I wouldn't mind if the backup banger/rebounder PF can play a little center either.

c'mon people! Mixum gets tons of replies and I write a thoughtful post and only JE replies?

Sorry man -- I must confess that summer feels like a really long time away... (Although this recent weather is starting to make it feel just a little bit closer!) It's still a little early for me to start thinking offseason acquisitions. Save this list for June, though -- after some updating I guarantee you it will be a great conversation starter.

On the other hand, you haven't included any blatant hyperbole or hare-brained predictions, so your reply count might suffer. Please fix this.

What to do? Not pay attention so KP doesn't give me an ulcer and shorten my lifespan by 20 years by pissing me off so much that I smoke way more cigarettes than normal. :tsktsk:

i can see us trading LMA, outlaw, and 5 #1 picks for pau gasol, oden for mark gasol, bayless and batum for calderon, buying out juan carlos navarro's barcelona contract, and trading roy for the #1 pick and taking rubio.

We'd be guaranteed the silver medal at least ...

I think alot of people are taking a breather from the board after Trade Deadline day.

Give it a little time. Our needs in Free Agency could still change by the time the end of the year rolls around. Who knows, maybe Bayless, Travis, Batum, Sergio or Channing steps their game up?

Soooo... you forgot the green font, too, eh? :dunno:

We need to get an energy guy at the 3.
We need to get a guy who can score at the 3.
We need to get a guy who can play great defense at the 3.
We need to get a guy who doesn't require a lot of plays run for him at the 3.
We need to get a guy who is a Nate guy at the 3.
We need to get a guy who is a KP "culture" guy at the 3.
We need to get a guy who is a vet, yet younger than 30 at the 3.

We need ... Gerald Wallace!!!

I'm still a bit depressed from no action on trade deadline day and find it hard to see how we are in better position to get Wallace or Butler in the summer.

We need vet PG and SF with high court IQ's that can feed our bigs and help our flow. One's who don't need to be the star of the show but could produce/be phased out over the next couple of years and make way for our youth (w/o getting in the way of it).

PG Longshot:Steve Nash (if they want to save money Bayless + Blake + pick?) Everyone loves playing with him, fantastic shot, would help Brandon get easy buckets more, would like not having to play 40 mpg probably.

PG Realistic: Andre Miller (FA, three year 7 million a piece?)

SF Longshot: Tayshaun Prince (Outlaw & Bayless?) - would be perfect as far as helping to facilitate, play defense, and extremely high IQ w/o needing to take shots away from our guys.

SF Realistics: Grant Hill, Desmond Mason, Ime Udoka (in that order)

Do that and bring over Koponen and Freeland and I think we're set personally.

Sign someone or make a trade that utilizes the cap space. That is all.

Edit: I see I was correct :word:

They might be prone to trade him for more of a natural PF or C. I think that if they have a chance to get a more traditional (and equally talented) PF, they'd trade Green. Who cares what they traded to get him, if they can pick up a better PF, they'll move him for another piece IMO.

Or maybe they can use their eventual top 5 pick (or the other first rounder they'll have) to take one, and just make Jeff Green the supersub on a team sorely lacking depth. Or just move him to SF and Durant back to SG.

Durant works much better as a SF. This production spiked when he moved there. He's a SF through and through.

Fair enough, but that doesn't justify trading Green unless they get a hell of a return package. Green is going to be damn good. I doubt the Blazers trade LMA for him, so that probably settles it on the Portland front.

I'm all out of hope. I used all of mine up preparing for the trade deadline. I just don't see us doing anything that great. Sure the draft will be Pwn3d by KP again. But that won't help us much next season.

I think the whole put the icing on the cake talk is a lot easier said than done. I don't think it's gonna happen. What we've got is what we've got. Hopefully time and the draft will provide.

Why would we trade Bayless for the vets? Obviously KP was dead-set against trading any of our "Super-6" at the deadline and declined all trades involving them, even for a 26 year old Gerald Wallace! I don't see Bayless or Batum being traded, and I don't think Rudy will be traded either, but I think he'd be the most likely as he will probably be a backup in PDX for his days here.

Anyway, as for the summer of '09... I really wouldn't mind going into next year with the lineup of...

Blake | Bayless
Roy | Rudy
Batum | Webster
Aldridge | Outlaw
Oden | Przybilla

Because again, they will all improve and develop more chemistry together which, imo, will add up to possibly a borderline 60-win team next year (maybe around 58). I think our team taking it to the next level heavily depends on Oden, Batum and Bayless emerging as very solid players their sophomore season.

I also wouldn't mind bringing in some vets at the SF and backup PF, but I really like Blake at the PG (IDK why I like him so much). Those would involve trading Webster (which i'm not against) and Outlaw (which i'd prefer not to do).
