Thank Christ you aren’t in charge of anything meaningful in this city. You clearly operate from pessimism and fear, and that’s an L in analytics

I couldn't care less what you think of my view newb.

Trading Book is their only way out of the hole.

1. Get a list of teams from Beal where he would agree to go. His 2 years + player option is the hardest trade. He’s only 31, but it’s step 1 with a no trade clause.

2. Ask Book if he wants to stay after Beal is traded and knowing Durant is next.

3. Trade Durant for 1st round draft capital and young players. PHX draft assets are not optimal right now, so get 1st round picks.

4. If Books wants out, do it this summer at age 28. He’s young enough to get a strong return (including 1st round capital) but a bit old to start a rebuild.

I have been suspecting that the plan is to package our pick or picks and a player and take a big swing.

I’m just not sure for who.

I read some report last week I think that either Sabonis or Sabonis’s agent was going to ask the Kings in the off-season what direction they plan to move in.

Let’s say Sabonis wants out, would you want him in Portland and would he be good enough to be our star player is the question..
I like Sabonis a lot but could he play full time PF position next to Clingan?

I'd probably stand pat and see what you have with a starting 5 that includes Scoot/Shae. In a year's time you can reevaluate after you see what that looks like.

Otherwise I can see guys like Booker, Zion, Kuminga, Morant on the move. I'd try to swoop in on a player who was still on their rookie deal like Jarace Walker or Ausar Thompson/Ron Holland. I'd still do Anthony Black plus a 1st for Ant.

Why? He’s almost 29 and he’s not going to make us a contender.

So 6 good years he has left most likely. Do you not think we’ll be a contender in the next 6 years.

Not everyone has to be on the same timeline. In fact that rarely happens when teams win it all. There’s always a veteran presence.

The guy is a vacuum on the boards and plays with tenacity. The likelihood we’ll draft a big even close to as good as him is highly unlikely

Interesting question: who do you think makes us a contender?

elite players that won't be available

Sabonis is much better than Ayton and completely different than Clingan. But I tend to agree with Nate that Sabonis wouldn't make Portland a contender. He'd make them better, but I think 48-50 wins would be the ceiling

It’s a complicated answer.

Zion if healthy and motivated could make us a contender. But unlikely that he’s ever healthy…. Or motivated.

I’m intrigued by Booker. He’s in his late 20s like Sabonis but he’s the kind of scorer that I’m intrigued to put next to Toumani and Deni. I’d rather get a wing than a center.

a Booker-Sharpe-Camara-Avdija-Clingan lineup would be interesting. Booker has some definite PG skills. He's averaged 7 assists the last 2 seasons

but if the Suns shopped him I'd doubt the Blazers could meet the price, and it almost certainly would include one or two of those players above

Sabonis and Zion? DB Hooper at point. Try to hang on to Deni and Camera.

I don't know how you get those deals done and keep Deni and Camara... We just don't have enough assets...

Yeah probably not.... well..... we COULD but are we willing to? We could push all the chips in but I'm not sure that Booker is really the guy to do that with.

how about something cheaper....

assume that Cronin wouldn't be able to help himself and would re-sign Simons and Ayton given the chance. Would the Bucks be satisfied enough with those pair of expiring contracts for Dame? Maybe add the worst of the two Portland 2029 first's. It might actually save the Blazers money over the next 2 seasons

I know you don't want Dame back, but if the price was that low it might be worth it. Would it make Portland a contender? Likely not, but it would finally put a solid and lengthy Blazer team around Dame

At some point you have to shit or get off the pot with Scoot. It would just be silly to have him coming off the bench in his third year. Either we move him or he starts next year.

Well what are you putting around Sabonis? Sharpe and Advija is a good start

I’m too tired to come up with how, but moving on from Ant and Grant is a must. Moving on from Ayton is too, but I can’t see that happening.

I think our team needs players like Kevin Huerter. They needs a long athletic 6’11” guy to play PF/C behind Clingan and Avdija. They need a pass first pg to back up Scoot. They need an experienced coach to lead and guide them, not to learn with them

If the team went into the season with
Clingan
Avdija
Camara
Sharpe
Scoot

Huerter
Long athletic PF/C
Vet pass first PG
Thybulle

Minus injuries, that is a playoff team

How can you say you can't see moving on from DA happening after seeing the Mavs move on from Luka

If Scoot makes another big jump offensively, then that would work. If he doesn't, then that starting lineup does not have enough offense.
You would need to start Ayton and bring Clingan off the bench for another year.
