That is a pretty good deal for both teams. I would not expect a FRP, though.

Both players would come off the bench for Portland.
Ant next to Amen would be a nice combination.
Ant next to Fred....would not.

addition by subtraction.....I dont see, anyway, Houston only wants Simons for, Smith, 1st round, Reed. Now maybe like with Deny, Joe has an agreement for a package for Smith? Why would we need Smith when we have Deny, Kamara, Walker & others in front court?
 
We need to try and get Adebayo. Miami already said they are looking to change things up. Grant, RW3, 11th pick and one of the Bucks swaps should do it.
Then we can still trade Simons to Rockets for Smith and Reed.

Deni, Thybule, Murray
Toumani, Shay, Rupert
Scoot, Reed

That would be the best defensive team in the league, easily.

I meant for 2028 to just be a swap.

Technically we could trade 2028 though - but it would be conditional on making the 2026 playoffs - which if we're acquiring Brown should be very likely.

Boston is now going to be very interesting this summer... I'd think they want to duck the luxury tax for a year but they need to cut about $40 million of salary to do so!

If they can ship off Jrue and Porzingis to a team like Brooklyn for a pick they could duck it.

Or if they really want to tank for a pick maybe they explore trading one or more of Brown/White/Pritchard/Hauser. Those guys could get way more picks back in trade. Duck the tax for a few years so the repeater tax resets - bring in some elite prospects - then use those assets to rebuild around Tatum in 2027 if he is able to make a full recovery.

Boston owns their picks in 2026+2027 but doesn't in 2028 (Spurs Swap) or 2029 (we own)
 
Why do all these hypothetical trades for Simons on the internet have us ripping off the other teams.
 
11 and their pick back? Boston does a 1 year tank while Tatum is hurt, and hope that Sharpe can duplicate what Brown does for them. Portland pushes in chips to see what Brown can do for them.

I wish people would stop the pick back talk regarding 2029 FRPs. It would be way too messy to renegotiate the previous trade with the Wizards. So either Boston would get the worst of the three or they'd get the best. Same thing if we make a deal with the Bucks. With the Deni trade, the ship pretty much sailed on giving either of those two teams their 2029 FRP back in a deal.

With that said, I don't like the trade at all. Two FRPs and Shaedon for Brown just doesn't do it for me. I'm not saying it's an overpay, I just want our team to see this rebuild through.

I think your reading into something RR7 or other posters don't mean. I read his trade idea as meaning we send the best of the 2029 picks to Boston. That guarantees Boston gets their 2029 pick back or better.

Unless someone specifically says a trade idea with a 2029 pick involves renegotiating with Washington I'm always going to assume it doesn't.

Are you aware the actual wording of the trade? Do we know for a fact that we are not allowed to move either the Milwaukee or Boston picks?

Nate, ask yourself if all three picks weren't being referred to then why would the language be "second-most favorable"? The fact that "second" is in the language indicates there are at least three picks in play.

All it says is that they get the 2nd best. It doesn't say anything else. Not how many picks. Not which teams. We don't know anything else about the specifics. I can't imagine Joe didn't leave himself an out.

Portland will receive the most and least favorable of its 2029 1st round pick, Boston's 2029 1st round pick and Milwaukee's 2029 1st round pick and Washington will receive the second most favorable of the three (via Boston to Portland; via Milwaukee to Portland; via Portland to Washington) [Milwaukee-Phoenix-Portland, 9/27/2023; Boston-Portland, 10/1/2023; Portland-Washington, 7/6/2024]

How can Joe "leave himself an out"? Its clear the Blazers keep the best and worst. Washington gets the second best. Washington isn't going to let Joe just change the terms at a later time with an "out". Washington receiving the 2nd pick was the value they got for Deni.

Blazers don't completely control any of an exact team pick that 2029 year because the Wizards get the 2nd best pick. We won't know what team until the end of the season or lottery. Happens all the time in the NBA where a team has a pick or a swap or some condition on a pick going elsewhere. Look at the bottom of the first round this year as 14 of the 17 picks have been traded or swapped or such;

the trade sure doesn't look like it was for the 2nd best of 3 generic picks. The Wizards traded for the 2nd best of the Portland-Milwaukee-Boston picks. We don't know what the 2nd best of those picks will be; or the best or worst. I'm wondering how the Blazers could trade any of those picks right now unless it went to another team conditionally.

Yeah you just have to specify if you're trading the best or worst of the three if you're including it in a trade idea. It's pretty simple.
