Summer "BIG Swing" trade

Welcome to our community

Be a part of something great, join today!

It always feels a little weird to 'steal" info from one board to pass to another, but the poster from RealGM who had previously mentioned our Deni interest before landing him had these little tidbits the other day:

Someone asked: Is there a realistic timeline to know if this potential deal has passed? (ie - does it need to happen prior to the draft because '25 picks are involved?)

Speculate away!

Can be amended-> however Suns can't aggregate salaries. Doesn't work with them getting Grant
Suns are only sending out Durant so they're not aggregating salaries.

Edit forgot about Allen... Still maybe PHX side Allen go out on his own then Durant for Grant+Green or such. Maybe one more piece is needed.

Someone elses suggestion in the Ant trade thread - lets get Hart back!

Blazers rotation

Clingan Timelord
Deni Thybulle
Grant Hart
Camara Sharpe
Jrue Scoot

The defense and hustle on that squad would be unlike anything from a Blazers roster since either 1999-2000 era or the Drexler teams.

Blazers gain two picks and a swap! Plus Ayton/Grant are gone too! No worries of Jrue contract. Lillard will be an expiring contract next year.

I wonder what the biggest trade in NBA history was...in terms of number of teams and/or number of players?

I linked it in another thread - 6 teams last summer which was a record. I believe there has been a number of 5 team deals. # of players I'm not sure but I believe theres been a few around 15 players.

Its kind of meaningless what that number is as many of these are multiple separately agreed to deals that get rolled into a single massive trade for cap purposes in early July.

Perhaps a more meaningful number is the players and teams in a single deal at the trade deadline.

Scraps and Knecht and a swap seems fair.

I like the idea of sending Knecht to the Bulls to get our pick back.

IMG_7527.jpeg Small swing and I stole it off Reddit but i think Whitmore would be a Deni like trade.

They can. They are still 4.3M under the first apron.
I think they'd potentially have a problem filling out the rest of their roster if they were to do a 3-1, 4-2 trade with us, though

I don't think taking back more salary than you send in a trade as long as it's within the 125% triggers that hard cap. So the Lakers couldn't use the MLE, BAE, sign-and-trade, or TPEs but they can still sign players with minimum contracts including vet mins.

Taking in more triggers the 1st apron.

Where does it say that? What I'm looking at says that if you exceed the 125% rule it triggers the first apron. I also see 110% after you hit the first apron triggering the second apron. Am I reading this wrong.

The deal I proposed has a return of 107.5% going back to the Lakers. Where does it say that would trigger any hard cap at all?

First Apron Hard Cap Triggers

  • Signing a player to a contract via the Non-Taxpayer MLE that is greater than allowable via the Taxpayer MLE (years, salary or both)
  • Signing a player to a contract via the Bi-Annual Exception
  • Acquiring a player via Sign-and-Trade
  • Signing a player after a buyout if that player made more than the Non-Taxpayer MLE that season
  • Using more than 100% salary-matching in a trade
  • Using a TPE that was created in the prior season

Have to say been a fun off season. Lots of moving players and picks this year. Some real head scratchers

If we think we can win now this would be the move imo. Yes we would probably have to add a pick(s) too but with Hali out next season maybe they wanna get off a little of Siakams money. Plus they just lost their Center.

Jrue/Scoot
Deni/Sharpe
Camara/Thybulle
Siakam/Murray
Clingan/Yang/Reath

Maybe Sharpe starts but either way that’s a good team. Still need a shooter though.

I predict this will happen, although it will require some first rounders on our part. I'm hoping no more than 2.

Utah will try to do better, which may push the trade back, but ultimately I think we'll be the most enthusiastic Markkanen suitor.

Not sure how I feel about that. I mean, he's no Petteri Koponen...

If Utah will do this straight across -> I would consider it.

BUT I would NOT add any picks to the deal.

Talent level Lauri is slightly better than Grant (and he's likely a better fit). But when you consider contracts -> both Lauri & Grant are highly negative.

Lauri doesn't fit the defensive identity Cronin has acquired on every player lately.

I do think the Blazers will consider a move like this at some point where we send out Grant/Jrue+picks for an upgrade. Might not be until the franchise is sold though.

I don't think Cronin is doing that type of trade now.

Lauri is paid a ton and questionable on D. I think Utah overestimated his worth locking him up.

Id say Lauri is worth more than Grant but I agree that they're both negative assets.
