Summer "BIG Swing" trade

I’m looking at wing depth….

Framework

To Phoenix:
MIL 1RP (with added protection)

To Portland:
Ryan Dunn

The Suns are high on Dunn and it’d take something like this for them to bite — they’re also entering tax hell and must stay below the second apron after stretching Beal.

For Portland, you’re getting an elite defender who can be Camara-like.
I feel like the next time we make a trade it'll be for guys who are necessarily two-way.

Was Deni a "big swing trade"? Because a Deni-like player that I can sort of see us trying for is Jeremy Sochan. He's just turned 22 (younger than Nique Clifford, for example) but has had a couple of years in the league, like Deni. But is he worth giving up the #11 for? And do we want a player that San Antonio (in this scenario) doesn't want?
Sochan has completely fallen out of the rotation in San Antonio. Would he be worth picking up on the cheap? He can't shoot but he could be a small-ball center. Poor man's Draymond. Of course, who would we give up to get him? I bet everyone would leap at swapping Kris for him... until Kris inevitably blossomed in SA and we developed sellers' remorse.

Another once-promising guy who is in the doghouse: GG Jackson in Memphis. I'm less interested in him because he sounds a bit clueless.

yeah Sochan no longer gets minutes since that team is now so stacked. He was a starter IIRC.

Eh. Sochan's not making an appreciable difference in the Blazers. He's not a bad player, but he's average. The Blazers shouldn't have to trade for him. If they like him, at some point he's probably going to be available as a free agent or a player whose rights were renounced after a trade.

The Blazers aren't at the point where they can be giving up resources for niche fits.

Depends what were giving up. If its second round picks or something then sure why not. I'd rather see him playing than Caleb Love.

Many thought Deni was a niche fit or irrelevant long term. Not every good trade is going to bring in an immediate high level starter.

I wouldn't give up a FRP for Sochan. But I'd certainly look at players like him or on other teams that are not being used and see if they could be a good addition here.

Rodney Hood (pre injury) was one of the 2nd round pick acquisitions that worked out well. Robin Lopez, Mo Harkless, etc. Sometimes players just need a different opportunity.

With their ability to save $$ on his salary waiving him, and their god awful record, even without owning their picks, I don't see why NOP would bother adding Grant in to the mix.

Though maybe...
