Does that mean the media was correct in blasting Oden for his miserable Summer League performance?

I'd like to say no, but seeing as they laughed at him for his fouls in summer league, and he carried his great fouling rate to the regular season, then I suppose yes, they were right to criticize.

Well it doesn't take too much to see between the lines. Basically I view not giving credit where credit is due, is denial.

What if he had done horrible in the summer league like Oden did? That would have been way worse.

What did Blake do? He did exactly what he should have for being a #1 pick. He came out and kicked ass. No need to take anything away from him.

Credit for what? Destroying Dave McCauley and David Monds? Anthony Randolph just dropped 42 points tonight, should he have have been the #1 overall pick? I'm just saying I think the media is putting way too much stock in SL. I think Griffin will be good, but who cares if he drops 27 points on a couple scrubs? Really, the only positive about SL is that players get to learn the system. They get to adjust to the rules of the NBA. Good players should play well. The competition is fairly poor.

Qyntel Woods was MVP of a Polish League this year and won a title, however, on a team with Pat Burke and Daniel Ewing.

Yeah.. Qyntel was never a SL MVP.. he just made the All-Rocky Mountain Revue team. Sean May, however, did win a summer league MVP!

Here by the Bay the local media is slobbering over Stephen Curry's summer league play.

They did the same with Marco Belinelli (sp?).

So maybe Curry is the second coming of Belinelli.

All things considered, I'd rather see a player in whom I have hopes do well in SL than do crummy, but it's still not a blueprint for NBA success.

Last year Bayless scored a shitload during the summer league, but only averaged one assist a game. That turned out to be somewhat predictive of how his season went the following year. Alot of scoring attempts without much passing.

This year it appears that Bayless is trying to distrubute the ball more. That indicates he will try to do the same thing next year. One of the things we can't tell from summer league is how successful Bayless will be at doing so.

Summer league is more about how the player will attempt to play the next season then it is about determine who successful they will be at playing that way.

Summer League is rarely a good indicator of which players belong in the NBA. It is a good way to find out which ones don't, though.

I feel like there are a bunch of bottom-tier reporters/analysts out there who have a vested interest in the Summer League being considered important. They tend to be the biggest sources of exaggerated and premature hype. Rick Kamla's probably the best example of this.

I think you could make the argument that he should have been as high as #2 after seeing how he played the second half of last season. It's true that haveing him in the Sl really isn't fair, he's just too good for those guys.



As far as Bay Area papers writing about Curry, all I've seen is a lot of concern over his shooting percentage. He's nothing like Belinelli who could do no wrong in Las Vegas
