Sounds good to me if he can stay healthy, will sign cheap, and will come off the bench like the blogger suggests.

Ohhh thats pretty exciting the 7th best player from the worst team in the league? Can't wait!

I still we should throw our entire MLE at Hawes this summer.

the yahoo contributor network is a joke lol

Taylor Barfield is currently a college freshman at Willamette University in Salem, Oregon. He covers the NBA (specifically the Portland Trail Blazers) primarily via blogging and can be contacted at, tbarfiel@willamette.edu.

I'm with you there. I love Hawes and what he can do and bring to this team. The defense for the other team would never have to guard the paint, though!

there is the why bother category, when it's so unrealistic it's almost insulting

I don't think it's completely unrealistic. Not in the current market. I doubt Philly is going to pay him, so most teams will only be able to offer the MLE. Look at what JJ Hickson got last summer. This isn't the NBA where big guys got 12 mill a year without even thinking twice.

4/5 tweener is better than a 3/4 in my opinion

3/4 is the worst kind of tweener you could be. There's a reason guys like Derrick Williams and Michael Beasley can't stand out. (among others)

if he plays like he has all yr MLE won't be nearly enough, not close

This, by the way, is one more reason why I would be very happy with a trade for him. If we wanted to sign him this summer and already had his bird rights, we would be able to offer him more than MLE, and we would still have our MLE yo offer someone else.

I'm really curious what they would want for him.

It seems to me that Derrick is finding his role on the Kings.

Though, to be fair, there is a lot of roles to be filled there. That said, I think he's going to be a really nice player. #2 worthy? Probably not, but he'll be good.

How many stars in this league are 3/4 tweeners? The answer is literally 0, unless you want to count guys like LeBron, Melo and KD who aren't really tweeners but can play the 4.

Well if we're talking stars, then yeah, there's hardly any. But they do have very servicable players... SHould they be high draft picks? No.
