Super League’s ‘Magic Weekend’ rolls into Edinburgh on Saturday but it is likely to be more a trickle than a torrent of fans pounding the streets of Scotland’s capital.
Now in its fourth year, the event — which sees all 14 clubs playing at the same venue — is coming under increasing scrutiny and has been questioned by some of the sport’s leading figures.
With ticket sales likely to be well down on last season — the RFL are privately hopeful of a crowd ‘over 40,000’ compared to last year’s 59,000 — it is difficult to see the jamboree weekend continuing in its current form in 2011.
