Suppose we miss the playoffs

Not upset at all. I said I wasn't forming an opinion on what I saw in the preseason. Didn't watch the FULL game live, but you can assume whatever you want. I think you can read in between the lines.
Well whatever happens this season, I hope you predict it correctly.

Things were already tenuous this off-season. The thought of leaving, the possibility, has been in Dames mind. He decided to stay for now. He says he's all in this season. Let's not take that for granted. Enjoy the time he is still here.

Missing the playoffs, getting a play in spot, or losing in the first round all have the same consequences:

1. Neil out.
2. Dame most likely gone.

1. - Finally....thankfully
2. - Epic failure due to how long it took to get to #1.

what will be sadder is if Olshey is the one who trades Dame...

...because you just know he'll want to build a team featuring CJ. That means MeJ will lead the league in shots, usage, and dribbling. If Dame is traded, RoCo and Nurkic will sign elsewhere (and Nance would likely do the same the summer after). What should happen is that CJ and Powell and any player over 24 should be traded soon after Dame for as many 1sts as the Blazers can grab. Go full rebuild, and get some high lottery picks too. Watching the Blazers featuring MeJ would be Olshey's wet dream but be must-not-watch TV for anybody else

If we learn in the months ahead we can't contend as is, and we can't bring a star to contend with Dame, I'm fine trading Dame for a big haul.

If that happens there doesn't need to be a rush to trade CJ. We obviously would be rebuilding and should consider all offers for vets. But if we aren't getting good CJ offers, I'm fine letting him do a MeJ season, up his trade value, then flip him later. In a scenario where we trade Dame keeping CJ/Nurk/Roco/Powell/etc until it makes the most sense to trade them is best. That could mean trading them within days of Dame, but it may not.

We miss the playoffs, the team will be put in "for sale" mode. Anyone with value will be traded for future draft picks, young players on cheap contracts and expiring contracts in order to sell, then move the team.

Do you think Dame is gone? Do you think we should trade him even if he doesn't demand a trade, just out of mercy (and because the writing is on the wall about a Blazer team led by him)?

Related: how bad would our record have to be after 41 games for either of these questions to come up by this season's trade deadline?

(Here's hoping we explode out of the gate and I will look back on these questions and chuckle affectionately.)

I figure Dame can carry this squad to the 8th seed on his own. If the Blazers don’t make it, it means Dame is either traded or dead. So, yeah, he’s gone in that event.

He's leaving, because there is no way this team can get out of the first round unless CJ is traded, or voted an all-star along with Dame. Getting into the first round may be a challenge itself.

knock on wood. If cj and nurk miss 70 games. No way we make the playoffs.
combined, they missed 60 last year in a 72 game season, and we were tied for the 5th seed on a 48 win pace. Dame is the ultimate floor raiser in the NBA. His baseline is an 8th seed on his own.

I think Dame is gone regardless
One unmentioned reason for this: the Blazers will be huge into the luxury tax the longer they keep his rapidly-inflating contract. How committed is Jody? It's not like trading him is breaking up a contender...

I really wonder if he looks at CJ and sees the reincarnation of Roy? Is his vision a team that will use CJ the way Nate used Roy?

Yep
