Sweetney for Curry?

Isaiah Thomas has added Mike Sweetney to the Curry trade talk. If you're reading this Mr. Thomas DON'T DO IT. Michael Sweetney has agreat potential as well as a great future. He has proven that he is a good basketball player in provideing us with our only post presence. Any time we give the ball to Sweetney he makes the shot or gets to the line. He is also a good rebounder. He has what Clyde calls "soft hands." Sweetney has a huge upside with no risks however, Curry is a career underachiever with an enourmous amount of risks who has the tendency to get fat over the summer. We don't have that room for error to make a sacrifice like this. I wouldn't even mind so much if it were Kurt Thomas because he is an aging veteran but, just not a young talented big man which we haven't had since the days of Patrick Ewing. I predicted that Thomas wanted a 100% Layden free team and might even be willing to sacrifice our best big man. If Sweetney goes to Chicago not only will he be averaging Elton Brand-like numbers but, he will probably get the Most Improved Player award. And we as Knick fans will only feel dissapointed and cheated. Curry will be a good dominant player in the league and I hope we can get him but, not at the expense of our best big man. If Isaiah pulls the trigger on this trade we have to get something valuable from Chicago. Hinrich is not going as well as he is not needed so we will just be getting rid of a solid lottery acquistion for pretty much another underachiever so far, something the Knicks already have in TT. If Isaiah Thomas trades curry for Sweetney we must get a pick at the very least and I will understand fully what Tribute to H2O means about what Zeke has done.

WHAT!?!? Sweetney is way better than Curry. If Sweetney played four years in the NBA he would have been averaging way better numbers than Curry. Curry is an underachiever who doesn't use his talent.

Sweetney turns the ball over almost three times a game, in 21 minutes or so...he isn't starting-material, and he picks up fouls faster than anyone else I've seen.

Funny thing you pointed that out because Curry averages 4.25 TOPG and 3 fouls per game in only 5 minutes more of action while shooting 38% from the field. I rest my case.

If I were to give up on players in one season (wait, 9 games), I would've already released Odom.

Sweetney played about 11 minutes last year, which is half of his playing time of this year, and to no one's surprise, did just as bad last year as he's doing this season.

Double Sweetney's stats last year, and you have his stats of this season...and that includes his minutes.

Let's not forget that Sweetney was on the injured list due to bad coaching, and let's not forget that Scott Layden was in town a year ago. Sweetney's stats have been terrific this season. Sweetney's freethrow shooting has just been eratic. So is Curr'ys as well. Obviously you haven't seen many Knick games because his post moves and agility have all greatly improved from last year. Let's not forget that NY has a better team than Chicago so it should be much easier for Curry to do well. Curry is an underachiever who's unpredictable. A big dissapointment for the fourth overall pick.

I dont think I make this move if Iam the Knicks, Sweetney is already a fan favorite. And I think when you are in the head office of the Knicks you always have to take in account the business side of things. Despite as bad as the Knicks are playing the pressence of Crawford, Ariza, & Sweets is still giving Knick fans hope. And keeping them interested & excited in the team. I dont think the Knicks need to mess with that.

People need to realize that this is pretty much Sweetney's roookie year because he played so little in 03-04. So the mistakes, such as the fouls & turnovers are apart of the learning process. He is trying to adjust from college where his size alone let him run the big east. But now in the NBA he is somewhat undersized for a PF. So now he is trying to adjust to the skill level it takes to be a PF in the NBA. If you think about the matchups he has had in just these 1st few games TD, KG, Jermiane Oneal etc that just tells you the type of adjustment in the competion level he is going against every night at the 4. They didnt have those type of guys in the big East.

Sweetney is trying to add different things he didnt have in his game in college. And didnt really need, like the face up moves in the low block area, the mid range jumper. And being able to put the ball on the floor etc. So with him trying to add those things into his game, the fouls & turnovers are going to be somewhat noticable. But as he becomes more comfort making those type of moves on offense. And guarding some of the league's top forwards, then you will see the fouls & turnovers come down.

It's true that Curry is an underachiever and Sweetney an overachiever, nonetheless, a "quality" (I use that term loosely with Curry) big man is a scare commodity. Sweetney is putting up better numbers than Curry. As Henacy said Sweetney is still only a rookie so he will make those mistakes. If Sweetney got more time playing in Chicago he would have been putting up maybe 18pts, and 11rebs. Although undersized he uses his size to his advantage as oppose to Curry who still doesn't utilize his Shaq like figure. Sweetney has shown that he will really get a lot better but, with Curry he might just stay at the level he's in right now which the Knicks can illafford with their big man drought since Ewing left.

Big man are hard to come by you are right, that would be seemingly the only reason the Knicks make this move. The only reason I would be reluctant is cause I dont think it would go over well with Knick fans, giving away Sweetney. Every time he checks in the game for the 1st time he gets a good cheer from the crowd. And the Knicks have made alot of suspect trades & moves during the post-Ewing era. So if this trade was not to work out for the benefit of the Knicks, I dont think Zeke would be able to ever live it down, with the New York fans and Media.

Can Dolan fire Isiah Thomas now?? Pretty please?? Isiah must be stopped. He doesnt know how to fix a team. All he can do is make big trades that may or may not work. He's about to ruin the Knicks. Another underachiever??? Now this is just getting ridiculous. Curry will never ever be better than he is now except for a contract year here and there. The Knick organization is simply being taken advantage of now. The Bulls think that just because we took TT off of Milwuakee's hands we'll take their underachiever too. Curry is a bum! A bum! That is all he is. Another high school disappointment. Sweetney is a superior rebounder and his post up game gets better and better. Those turnovers Sweetney has are mostly due to passes that he shouldnt be getting. And if reddealbneal actally watched a Knicks game he'd notice that. Sweetney actually has a work ethic and will only get better and better. mrj18 just put up the numbers above. If Curry is so good then why do the Bulls want to trade him for Sweetney? I'll tell you why. Because he's lazy and fat. But get this: He wants the max extension when he hasnt come close to delivering what was expected of him. I understand what you're saying...but agree with the deal of not, if Isiah Thomas feels this deal is beneficial to his club and he doesn't pull the trigger due to fear of public backlash, then he isn't a fit GM in the first place. Sometimes, the best decision is the unpopular one.

Shaq at his worst is better than Curry at his best. When was the last time Curry won something? Oh yeah I remember, never. The way Sweetney uses his size to perform in the low post he can very much be compared to Brand. They are also both good offensive rebounders with good work ethic. I was just about to post this.

I'm feeling sick right now. Giving up Sweetney, a hard working, classy, smart, courtsmart, talented and defense-minded for a lazy, pathetic, crybaby, in Curry? Jesus! I mean, if it were the other proposed trade, I'd be happy but with Sweetney in there, it's too much.

I literally began to vomit when I started reading this. But then, I concluded that if this trade were to happen, Isiah would be killed by angry New Yorkers and we wouldn't have to worry about acquiring 'talented' players in exchange for players with talent and intelligence. I really am pissed off right now. I understand the whole Curry is a center angle, but since when is a lazy, and unproven center better than a hard working, smart PF?! This is sickening. I hate Curry when you compare the man to Sweetney. I see no way in which Curry has a real upper hand, except for the fact that his primary position happens to be that of the center. Wow! I was just saying that Sweetney has more of an upside than Curry. Even if he doesn't become the next Elton Brand he will be closer than Curry is to Shaq or Brand. I know size and talent are vital factors but, skill is what's going to count in the long run. So far Sweetney has been showing he has more skill, work ethic and because of this a better future than Eddy Curry.

Sweetney is a good player but thats mostly due too his training und Mark Aguirre so whos to say Curry wont become a great player under him as well? Alot of people are saying Curry is a career underachiever but he has only been ini the NBA for 4 years and i believe his career is far from over so lets not jump to conclusions. It's wrong to compare Curry to Shaq, just as it's wrong to compare Sweetney to Brand. That's what I was getting to.

Aguire has been helping Sweetney but, Sweetney did his part by trimming down and really working on his game. It's like Aguire is the teacher and Sweetney is doing his homework. If Curry was really looking to improve his game he would have found some way else if he didn't have someone like Aguire around.

Brand, in my opinion, is what holds the Clippers together. Without him, they don't win. I can't say that for Sweetney...and maybe he can prove me wrong later on, but right now, and yes, it's my opinion...I can't say he's going to be similar to Elton.

I'm not trying to say that he can't play...don't get me wrong. I haven't seen every Knicks game like you have (if you have)...but from the ones I do see, and highlights, and reading stats, and hearing others' opinions...that's where I've formed my opinion about him.

Curry...I've seen him. I don't like how people compare him to Shaq. I wouldn't even say the man is a Top 5 center...but when you're compared to someone, I figure that you better expect to back it up and prove that you're near the level and stardom as Elton Brand is (or Shaq, for Curry's matter). Otherwise, I don't see the comparison as legit. That's just how I feel.

I've seen Sweetney play in every single game. And he has shown that he is more than capable of putting up numbers similar to Brand's. In fact, I think he is capable of exceeding his numbers, that's how gifted he is.
