Revel in what? Beating an NBDL team?

Yes! It only counts for one win out of a possible eight-two, but it looked great, it looked like players were having fun and it looked like it's the kind of thing that could help give them some confidence.

Whatever you want to say, Minny took Boston to the wire a few days ago and it's not like they are getting run off the floor every night. Just think of the alternative, this could have been a wire to wire game and imagine all the kvetching and misery around here then.

Nah, I realize that my personality isn't conducive for that role. It's called being self-aware. Try it out sometime. :devilwink:

Your self-awareness has an Andre Miller-shaped blind-spot. :drumroll:

Thanks a lot, now the song's stuck in my head. :sigh:

Me too, yet I'll add that the video is also running through my head. Did you ever realize the similarities between the bar dance in that video when compared to Thriller? It's uncanny, or so the video screen in my head is showing me.

I said I loved the win. I made a few comments about things I noticed. Next thing you know, I'm a troll, and I just can't let that go, since the mod is now lying about saying it about me.

Best post of the thread!

ha, just trying to steer the thread into another direction. I'm glad we're 4-3 and over .500, and I think we've seen the last time where we'll be under or at .500 the rest of the season.

Dude! Totally! I never thought about that, but I see it now!

Agreed. We also still have a great opportunity to take a lot of these early games and beat the hell out of our opponents. We have some real gimmies coming up if we can take advantage of them. Plus, the new look makes scouting us tougher!

Fine, I'm right there with you , I get it, not a problem. Everybody has an opinion ...

aaaaaaand ... you just lost me. I never called you a troll, I don't care about whatever thing you have going on with Nate et al. :dunno: my only suggestion is that it would be cool if people could sidebar their personal disagreements in private (regular basketball disagreements are fine by me and frankly I love arguing them). Cool?

A 3-2 roadie would be really nice right now. I'd ask for 4-1, but I don't want to be trollish.

This is our first winning streak of the season.

You never called me a troll. NateBishop did call me a troll. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

In the Blazers playing well. They should have won, but a 20+ point blowout is never the expected result. The Blazers legitimately played well, very well. It wasn't just playing a bad team.

Pfft. I'm looking at 4-1 and saying, "why can't we win against the Hornets?" I'm a bit of a Pollyanna, but whatever.

Actually I see the Hawks as the bigger challenge. The Hornets are a freaking mess right now -- which isn't to say it's a gimme; we always seem to play like shit against them.

Nate's comments from the postgame:

Thoughts on Brandon Roy's game (two points, seven assists, six rebounds, 1 of 6 shooting):
“I told him I liked the fact that he did other things. He had six rebounds and he had seven assists. And these are things that those guys will have to learn to do when Greg (Oden) and Miller and some of these other guys have things going. But don’t take yourself out of the game by assuming that you can’t do some other things, because later in that game, we may need you to score. He kind of allowed the game to come to him and he did some other things, which is what you need to do. Rebound. He had an opportunity to distribute the ball and he did that.”

Is this an indication of what we can expect from Roy down the road, where he doesn’t have to score as much?
“I think what you do is play the game and take advantage of what the defense gives you. And tonight our post-ups were good, they were double-teaming, we were getting something off that. If they take away the post, then the perimeter will open up. So I thought our guys did that tonight and they shared the ball, which was great. Thirty-five assists — everyone gets involved that way.”

FWIW

Good point about the Hawks. But we nearly beat them with a pretty bad offensive performance last time. I think the "New Look" Blazers can really bust some heads. The Hawks are legit (i.e., not Minny), but they aren't *that* good to go 2-0 against us.

Here is BNM's post.

I just have to say - THIS BOARD SUCKS. I come home from a 23-point win and what do I see in the game thread - someone BITCHING about the WAY we WON!

Fucking amazing. If you just read the last page of the game thread you'd think we lost by 23.

Anyone who isn't happy with this team or this win, I strongly encourage you to head on over to the Memphis Grizzlies board where you constant whining and complaining would be appropriate and justified. Some people seem to love being miserable. Why not switch your alliance to a franchise that will guarantee you the non-stop misery you crave?

Here is mine.

Yes, but then you look at who it is, and you realize that the person is simply a troll.

Seems to me you wouldn't be worried about being called a troll unless you were doing trollish things, nay?

His post wasn't directed at anyone by name.

Neither was mine.

Very defensive, Nate. A mod calling anybody a "troll" seems counter-productive, regardless. Edit the troll's messages.

Roy tonight reminded me of some of Pippen's nights as a Blazer. Some games, Pippen's shot wasn't falling...so he stopped shooting and just rebounded, assisted and played defense. Pippen pretty much could have taken as many shots as he wanted, as the ball generally went through him and he was the team's leader on the floor, just as Roy can take as many shots as he wants...but, like Pippen did in those situations, Roy chose to pull back and facilitate what was working.

As Martha Stewart (always a popular figure to quote on a sports forum) would say, "It's a Good Thing."

I predicted a 20 point blow-out. I actually expected it. :)

Exactly.

It wasn't the expected result for non-genius predictors.

(Note: I didn't specifically call you a genius, I just said that non-genius predictors wouldn't have predicted it. It was a vague, non-targeted statement.)

Anyway, 20-point victories are the result of good teams playing well against bad teams, by and large. Had Portland won by 8 or so, it would be a bit more meh to me.

You may have expected it, but I would not recommend taking it for granted.

Our two home wins over Minnesota last season were by a total of 6 points.

We beat them exactly a year ago, November, 8, 2008 by a score of 97-93 and on March 7, 2009 by a final score of 95-93. I was at both of those games - on the edge of my seat hoping the Blazers would manage to eek out a home win against a vastly inferior opponent.

In the past, the Blazers have had a tendency to play down to the level of some of their crappier opponents. No such let down tonight. It was a welcome sight.
