How does this make you feel? Working at a coffee shop, I talk sports with a bunch of regular customers. It irks me when they don't know what they're talking about though.

I'm just wondering how you guys react to it.

While at the gym, I was talking to one of my buddies who works there...and Albert Pujols came up...he said he's gonna sign with the Dodgers because he's Mexican and he'll be a super star in LA...a city full of Mexicans...I immediately shut down the conversation and went back to my work out in a respectful manner but in my mind I was dumfounded by his words.

It depends. If someone does not claim to be an expert in a certain sport, and says something stupid or naive, I let it go. I know that I don't know crap about baseball, and will put my foot in my mouth from time to time, but I also never pretend to be knowledgeable about baseball.

However, if someone acts like they know everything about some sport that I know quite a bit about, like basketball, then I will gladly point out their mistake/bad opinion, and mock them. If you choose to act like an expert, expect to be questioned.

I don't. They always ask dumb fucking questions though.

Now you know how I feel everyday dealing with these asshats on here!

I agree with HCP as usual. This is why he's my favorite poster and I probably get too familiar with him. I am SICK of putting up with all these asshats.

I should have clarified that...if someone obviously doesn't know what they're talking about, but just likes sports and wants to talk, yeah I let it go. But if it is vice versa and they think they know it all..straight puts me on tilt.

I've never been called the leader of anything! Thank you and I will try to live up to your lofty expectations! I don't feel I have earned all this esteem but I promise you I will bear this honor honorably.

I know too much about sports. Its at a nerd-like level. So I dont come across too many that are worth chatting with. If it does happen, I usually just shake my head and say yeah with a smile and then switch subjects.

It goes both ways though. Like movie people who always recite lines from a movie you havent seen and you really dont get it. Or ask if you've seen this movie, or that movie. Difference is, I dont bring up movie talk.

I have a few co-workers who are like that. I usually just smile and say nothing.

My sport is MMA, so, I basically don't talk about it except with my friends who like it. Nobody really knows much about it in the GP.

So that's why you are a Joe Rogan fan? I am the opposite, The first podcast I heard from Rogan had nothing to do with MMA and I got hooked. I kept listening, and when I found out that he was a huge MMA fan/announcer, I was bummed with all the UFC talk. But, over time, I started to listen and get excited about that sport by listening to all the interesting interviews and conversations. Now, I enjoy most fights I see. I would much rather watch MMA than Boxing.

Pretty fun getting into a new sport later in life.

I consider myself an expert in the knowledge of hoops and movies! I live talking movies with anybody because everybody likes em and has an opinion. Hoops on the other hand...... I go out of my way to not talk about it with people. Everyday all the dads at my kids school want to talk NBA, they are all clueless and it's unbearable!

Not really a big Joe Rogan fan TBH. Started watching MMA in the 90s and just happened across his podcast with The Machine looking at a list online of funniest stories by comedians. I came to MMA through pro wrestling--guess it was part of maturing. Swing by the MMA forum if you like since I keep it pretty up to date with news and rumours and we usually have a bit of discussion there as well.

That's one thing we have in common. I've literally never lost at sports trivia, be it NTN, Buzztime, or even on flights. My brother far and away is the person I know with the most sports' knowledge besides me, and he's never beaten me. I always assume the person I'm talking to sports about knows less than me, though, so part of it may be my problem, like in a sports' bar. I used to actually be self-conscious about it, because I have basically a photographic memory and remember some very random things, but as I've gotten older, I really don't give a shit anymore, and it's kind of my thing, I guess, in our social circles.

I almost never talk to people about sports in real life. I get annoyed both by people who know things about sports and by those who know nothing, so... why bother? :)

Basically the same for me. I always assume that the person I'm talking with doesn't know jack.

Most 8 year olds were playing with Hot Wheels. I was super interested in the back of my baseball cards.

I was matching my baseball cards with my Strat-o-Matic cards. Heck, I figured out by age 12 that OBP was more important than batting average in terms of run production, and I wrote to the company about it.

Billy Beane Whuuuuut? :)

I also think that knowing this about you explains a lot to me about why we've butted heads over the years.

This. except my name is not Ed O.

I sometimes am jealous with people who don't give a shit about sports. It's kind of tiring.

...what about fantasy sports?!

Oh god, that should be illegal.

Dear Everybody,

Unless I'm in your league, I don't give a shit about your fantasy team. Stop telling me all about it.

That's a really good point. I was in Hawaii a few weeks ago, and I think I was the only there that knew that there were NCAA games on ESPN at 6am.

i am an encyclopedia, nobody i know can keep up, but i do enjoy shooting the shit with this guy earl at the local bar, he knows his shit

I do talk fantasy sports... but specifics ONLY with people who play (and I'm willing to listen). I have a 45 second explanation of fantasy sports for the uninitiated, but I rarely bust it out and I know that's really pushing it with most people. Haha.

Never make bets with these people. They'll owe you hundreds of dollars and then your relationship is ruined. :O

I think you mean if someone doesn't agree with you or maybe shows you up.
