Since the Yankees have a history of bidding against themselves I'd have to say it was offered.

...that's not the case according to MLB...there were several clubs in on the bidding and the Cubs offered $150 Mil....the Yanx countered with $155 Mil and and opt out...not big deal IMO...I mean the Dodgers did pretty much the same thing with Kershaw.

Kershaw had an opt out? and it was over $30M/year too on that deal...
 
I know the opt out clause may be a great selling point but I think the practice should be banned. These selfish money hungry bastards make enough money, why give them the licence to financially rape a team for more. Both A-Rod & CC have pretty much stopped earning there big contracts after they re-upped with there stupid clauses.

should, absolutely... the damn union would never agree to that though

...but rick, no one is forcing the owners to pay these huge salaries and to offer NTCs.

No it was Close who demanded it. He also secured it in the Kershaw and Grienke deals also.
