Tank 2022 (1 Viewer)

To try to take my mind off this 2nd debacle, I thought I'd have a little fun with numbers to see just how far we could really tank, from a mathematical standpoint...

Cumulatively, the teams below us are 32 games back of us, or put another way -- we'd need those teams to combine for 32 wins, in the right arrangement, to land in the top spot. But really, with the new lotto rules, we only have to be top 3 for equal odds at the top pick -- from that spot, we're only 14 games back.

The 7 teams below us have a cumulative 31 games against each other or us to close out the year. If you assume that we don't win again, that's 31 wins we "gain" on the competition. No guarantee it happens in the right arrangement, but 31 isn't an insignificant number, by any means.

Further, those 7 teams also play 81 games against teams with less than 30 wins right now (rough approximation of the "middle" of the NBA, conceivably could be considered somewhat winnable games.) Even if those only hit at a 10-12% clip, that's 8-10 more wins. That's also not accounting for random upsets and end-of-season games in which playoff teams rest their players. Not inconceivable that those account for a handful more...

Net net, we have to drop 14 games in the right sequence with 31 unsequenced wins guaranteed and, conservatively, another 5-10 (if not more) in the schedule... At this point, I think top 5 is highly likely and top 3 is certainly within reach...

FYI... The Wizards, who just lost their best player for the year, have TEN games against teams with worse records than us down the home stretch. Each of those games just got significantly more winnable...

Cronin should have had you be GM during the Clippers trade negotiations.

Not really sure why you're choosing to make this personal, because I... am trying to discuss things in a somewhat optimistic fashion? Says a lot about you as person if you're taking something like this this hard. Might I suggest backing away from the keyboard for a bit?

Lol you probably thought I was being sarcastic. I was being serious. Cronin didn't put as much rationale thought into the clippers trade as you did into your post. Good post.

Tonight we are rooting for Orlando, Houston and Sacramento. Their opponents are beatable: Portland, Minnesota and New Orleans.

I root for Minnesota, that they increase the gap to New Orleans. Sacramento will catch us, it's just a matter of time

I’ve been extremely negative about the trades but I have to admit I see there’s a plan and I’m kind of buying in on it

I also would rather see us swing big and miss rather than continue to make small changes that might mean a few more wins but still an early playoff exit. That said a lot has to fall in place for this plan to be successful

Crap. Looks as if NO will beat Houston easily tonight.

Sacramento looks like a different team with Sabonis in there. He is already clicking with Dearon Fox and the rest of the team.
It looks like they not only will pass Portland in the standings but could battle New Orleans for one of the play in spots.

You guys better think twice if you thinks this team is going to purposely tank like you want them too.

Blazers beat Lakers, which is awesome, but hurts the tank.
Blazers looking at picks 8 and 9.

Damn that Billups. He's got these guys playing basketball.
The Lakers were in complete disarray and they still almost beat us for our seventh straight loss. I think the tank is going to be OK. The Kings got much better, we made the Clippers much better and the Lakers will get a lot better after they pick up some guys off of the buy out market and relegate Russ to the bench whenever LeBron is playing. Oh and Pacers will be better as well when Turner returns following the all star break, supposedly his foot has healed really well their just giving him until after the break out of an abundance of caution.

We also made the Pels worse!
