I think this is the first time as a Blazers fan that I'd rather have a lottery pick than squeak into the playoffs.

Why? In the past I always thought we had a chance... a chance to get out of the first round, and a chance to be competitive in the regular season leading up to it.

This year? Bad off-season moves, coupled with injuries mean NO CHANCE in the conference.

After we get rid of the garbage we picked up this offseason and add another young potential stud AND get healthy... we can be back to being relevant next year.

This season is done. I want to look past it and invest in the future rather than watch Carmelo go up for dunks. Although we're getting both of them at the moment.

SMH... were 3 games out of the playoffs right now.
Man this board gets crazy sometimes
Why would making the playoffs be a good thing? Do you think this team can beat anyone in the playoffs?

This is a bad team.

I don't think it's crazy at all to acknowledge that now, and for team management to play for the future rather than trying to go from bad to just-below-mediocre the rest of the season. And it's better than saying, "We're three games out of the playoffs" all year and be disappointed by unreasonable expectations.

If and I know its a huge group of ifs, Zach and Nurk could make it back in time and were playing the way they’re capable of then I think the Blazers would be just as good as just about anyone. Most teams would struggle when their starting front court is hurt and their just trying to find something that works. Obviously Gasol didnt work out either, but say Nurks back in January its possible he’s played himself into things by April, if they squeeze into the playoffs they’ll be a much better team in that scenario, and they have two expirings they could use to try to bring in someone to help too.

I just don't see it.

If those two guys come back, we will be better than we are now, of course, but I still think our offseason was a disaster, and I don't see us competing with any of the top four teams in the west.

I guess we'll see if the team gets back to .500 like they were in their first six games or keeps playing around .200 ball like they have the last 10.

A lot can happen between now and march

I don't think you're factoring in the fact we'll have fresh legs and a more experienced bench due to our early injuries than some of the hot start teams in the west....Utah and Denver in the past start out looking dominant in the west and then don't by the all-star break....we always play better after the break...also in developing a future contender you need your rookies playing against Lebron or Paul George in the playoffs ...nothing replaces that and I sure wouldn't have wanted to tank to get Adam Morrison at number 1 or Lonzo Ball. The lottery is a crap shoot usually..right now it's ugly but we sort of knew there'd be growing pains early....Lebron, AD, Paul George, Giannis or Kawhi get injured halfway through the season you might beat them without homecourt advantage as well..16 games in is not time to tank...actually to me it's never time to tank...trade up if you like a guy in the draft

I will wait to see next game against Cavs. I believe we got talented guys in our roster and I'm even ok with Tolliver go in for 5mins and hit 2 threepointers. We are on a bad hole, but I think something needs to click. If we lose to Cavs I'm done and ok with tanking tho.

I suggested this two weeks ago. It's not a tank, it's a rejuvenation. Let Anf, Skal and Little play at least 30 minutes a game. Limit Lillard and CJ to thirty minutes. Introduce a new style of play that can be used at times; it would just add to what we have. Of course it would involve more ball movement and different type of player movement (towards the hoop!) I'll leave that part to Bones and others to elaborate on. Figure out how to involve your most efficient player (Hood) in the offense more.
Don't practice stuff we are good at already, like iso and pick n roll. No preparation for other teams. Just practice the new offense, practice fast breaks and also fundamentals, defensive technique, setting screens, taking charges, the fine points of passing. Bring in a couple specialist coaches just to work temporarily on skills and to brainstorm with the old coaches.Work on Skal's ball grip. If certain players like CJ (and Bazemore and Whiteside) can't flourish with the new offense, trade them as soon as possible. Coach should try to set up some kind of system of accountability. If someone can't deal with that, trade him.
Do I think this is any more likely to happen now than two weeks ago, NO.

As I said before this team does not need to try to tank this yr, with our injuries and overall load of crap talent we brought in this last summer it comes naturally and our coaches ineptness seems to be more tank fodder

Tolliver 30mins tonight.

You can't just decide to lose. Especially if Dame is healthy. It just won't ever be bad enough to make tanking worthwhile unless he gets hurt seriously (see Steph Curry). They wouldn't have signed Melo if they were giving up. Stotts for all his faults won't ever give up.
Yeah, I think you sign Melo because you're giving up. He's the best way to look like you're still trying yet almost guaranteed to get worse.

So in this thread we have the following.
Trade Lillard & CJ for KAT to rebuild.
Cut CJ because he's so bad that Jeff fucking Teague is better than him.
Force tanking on Lillard.
Always rest Lillard the last 4 minutes of the 1st and 3rd quarter. Which I get the logic behind this one. But one of Lillard or CJ is going to finish those quarters. As Simons is clearly not ready.
However this should've been done last year to give Curry more of an opportunity. He's a far better overall basketball player than Simons is right now.

Then we have the @swish3 nba2k tactics.
Force Simons to take 15 shots a game.
Force CJ to take less than 15 shots a game.

I know I'm missing some of the crazy posts.

This thread should be merge'd with the meltdown thread imo.

Just a minor blip in the tank. We will be on track with the tanking for 4 of the next 5 games.

I'm still all about the tank. We finally beat a bad team. Big deal.

Sure they do....intentionally losing builds a losing culture....it's a bullshit move in competitive sports no matter how you spin it....the draft is a crap shoot anyway...you start tanking your best players will start demanding to be traded

They are not equipped to win games for the next few months. It's a tank without really trying to tank. Still a tank though.

Play to win and win as much as you can...take the pick you earn and if you want a higher pick....trade up if you can...but don't EVER intentionally take a dive...it's cowardly..Nas and Ant are going to learn a lot more from playoff experience than crapping out for a lottery pick..I'd rather see Moses Brown and Jason Hoard develop as well....we have young guys that have talent..build them for the future
