Team being grossly underrated?

We are not highly rated because we did not dump LaMarcus Aldridge for an elite rebounder, such as Derrick Favors. IF we did that, we'd be championship contenders.

The Jazz won 10 more games than the Blazers last year

We aren't getting hyped because we didn't sign anyone really THAT flashy. Barring major injury I guarantee we end up better than the Pups and Pelican'ts.

I'm not even talking about hyped... I didn't expect the pundits to claim us champs. I just think it's funny that some people have us missing the playoffs.

Not sure what your point is. Was it because of Favors? Or was it because of Watson and Mo Williams? My guess is none of the above.

I guess I don't understand.

2012 roster / 2013 roster

1. Aldridge = Aldridge
2. Lillard < Lillard (assuming he improves)
3. Matthews = Matthews
4. Batum < Batum (assuming less minutes and healthier)
5. Hickson < Lopez (actual center who plays defense)
6. Maynor < Mo (not even close)
7. Pavlovic < Wright (again, not even close)
8. Nolan < CJ (won't know for sure until games start, but I'm assuming not even close)
9. Freeland < TRob (this is a joke)
10. Leonard < Leonard (assuming he improves)
11. Barton = Barton (not really sure what to expect from the kid)
12. Claver < Claver (more confidence in his role)
13. Jeffries = Crabbe (who knows what we'll get out of this kid)
14. Price < Watson (at least we know Watson can play defense)

I put Matthews and Batum as a wash, but honestly I expect them to be better because hopefully they will be healthier with less minutes. The team is better across the board. Virtually every position has been upgraded on the bench by a better player or a player with another year or experience. How often does a team upgrade half their roster in one summer? We nearly made the playoffs last year with no bench at all, so I don't see how we fail this season... unless we completely implode.

Because Batum sucks right?

Also because LMA needs to be traded. RoyToy can flip a 180 like no one else I've seen on this board. He was pro-LMA for the first half of the summer, then became convinced that LMA needed to be traded because of the non-stop NateBishop3/MediocreMan negativity.

You look for moves you know that will make a big difference and I can't say the players they brought in are clear difference makers.
I'm kind of stunned that you think this. The guys that Olshey has brought in are definitely difference makers. This team will be greatly improved in the coming season.

How can someone be in the conversation for the 6th man of the year if we haven't played a game yet?
So no player should be in any conversation until the season starts? What? Then why are you here?

Mo Williams has been in the league for 10 years. He's played in 635 NBA games. He played in the NBA All Star game four years ago. He will be our first PG off the bench, and possibly our first SG off the bench.

Maybe he'll be 'out of the conversation' in January, who knows. Based on his body of work, his recent performance, and our lineup, I think Mo Williams is qualified to be 'in the conversation' for sixth man of the year, in August.

Seriously?? You better up your game, because that's a pretty lame idea.

My thoughts exactly. I don't know about you but I do NOT want Dame playing all those minutes this season.

2012 roster / 2013 roster

13. Jeffries = Crabbe (who knows what we'll get out of this kid)

I'll agree with you on the others, but I really need to call you out on this one...

According to 82games.com, Jared Jefferies net production per 48 by position:

PF:
Own PER = 0.4
Opponents PER = 21.1
Net PER = -20.7

Own PTS/49 = 6.0
Opponents PTS/48 = 24.7
Net PTS/48 = -18.7

C:
Own PER = 3.3
Opponents PER = 18.0
Net PER = -14.7

Own PTS/49 = 6.1
Opponents PTS/48 = 21.9
Net PTS/48 = -15.8

Total Production/48:
Own = 2.2
Opponents = 18.9
Net = -17.6

Please note all the negative signs in front of the ridiculously large numbers.

So, Jared Jeffries was, by far, the worst player on the worst bench in the 65 year history of the NBA. His net production per 48 was nearly 5 points worse than Luke Babbitt and Ronnie Price (both -12.7).

So there, I just made a solid case that our 13th man this year, no matter who it may be, will, without a doubt, be >>>>>>>>> than our 13th man last year. For example:

13. Jeffries < Boob-No-More (I may be 52 and undersized, but I have a pulse, know how to set a pick, have 6 hard fouls and am not afraid to use them)

or

13. Jeffries < a dead rat (at least the dead rat would distract the opponent and not invite them to score at will without even token opposition).

You get the idea.

How could some people not see how vastly improved our bench is. Put the champagne on ice and start mapping out the parade route!!!

Oh boy. Listen kids. The only difference between the Grizzlies and Warriors and US last year was the bench. If we switched our bench with either of those teams, we would've been in the second round and they would've been in the lottery. Period. We had a GREAT starting lineup last year. That starting lineup is BETTER this year and we now have one of the best shooting/athletic/rebounding benches in the entire league.

Proof right there the Blazers are no lock.

There should be a moratorium on this type of thread until the team at least exceeds last season's win total. Yes, the team is better on paper. All you need is one Raymond Felton type match, and all you have is ashes.

You fool! You come to the wrong conclusion because you conveniently left off the most important player for us last year.

You noob, you probably don't even know who I'm talking about.
Hint: He uses the FORCE!
Learn the Game, Then Post.

Poor humor aside, I agree we'll be much better and will easily make the playoffs. One of the overlooked aspects of Olshey's transactions has been chemistry - each player knows their role before they were even signed.

I guess I don't understand.

I'm sure that will happen...

As soon as all the Debbie Downers also stop posting all their doom and gloom scenarios. Maybe we should also place a moratorium on all the threads saying Aldridge demanded to be traded until he actually demands to be traded. Yeah, that's going to happen. Never mind the facts, it didn't stop multiple posters from guaranteeing he'd be gone before the season starts. Now they're guaranteeing he'll be gone by the deadline.
