Are the Teamsters trying to outdo the Westboro Church morons?

A judge ordered one of Chicago's most politically powerful labor unions to suspend picketing against 16 funeral homes last week after receiving reports that striking Teamsters had, among other things, disturbed a child's funeral.

SCI Illinois Services, Inc., one of the nation's largest funeral home chains, asked a district court to intervene after striking funeral directors and drivers with Teamsters Local 727 allegedly harassed grieving families.

"We are grateful that the court agreed to issue this temporary restraining order, and we are hopeful that it will help protect grieving families who are experiencing the most difficult times of their lives," Larry Michael, managing director for SCI Illinois Services, Inc., said in a release. "While we recognize and respect the Teamsters' right to lawfully picket, we have been shocked and saddened by their attempts to make grieving families the target of the cruel and outrageous attacks."

The company testified in its filing that union members blocked grieving family members from leaving its parking lot, used bullhorns to shout obscenities at workers and mourners, and unleashed a German Shepard on a dead woman's daughter and husband.

The funeral home was eventually forced to call the police when picketers allegedly disrupted a child's funeral with laughter. The officer asked the Teamsters to leave, but protesters returned when he drove away.

Fucking scumbag thugs.

Why are they picketing funeral homes? Are hearse drivers unionized?

What? You expect both sides to the story in a Fox News article?
Not very often, but a hell of a lot more often that I'd expect to hear both sides in an MSNBC article, that's for damn sure.

But that's completely irrelevant to my question.

I'm surprised they aren't beating the parents of the kid who died. That would seem to be traditional union strategy.

Only 9% raises? How will the Teamsters get by?

We will be here for the visitation; we will be here for your funeral,” Teamster driver Lester Plewa allegedly shouted into a bullhorn as a funeral director met with a dying man planning his arrangements with family members.

The appellate court ordered the Teamsters on July 25 to “refrain from conveying any actual or veiled threats against any person, also, refrain from obstructing, hindering, impeding or blocking any person’s entry to or exit from any funeral site or any facility containing a funeral site.”

The Teamsters have been on strike since July 1 after rejecting the company’s offer of nine percent raises for all union members over the next two years.

A judge ruled them to stop picketing. It's in the court record. That has nothing to do with FoxNews.

Typical response from a liberal when confronted with the nastiness of unions, though. Blame the messenger.

MSNBC isn't going to report on this. LOL

What? You expect both sides to the story in a Fox News article?

What you expect to get both sides from ABC, CBS, NBC, or countless others?

Oh wait, you won't (typically) get ANY side of a story like this from the mainstream media.

I'm not a liberal, and I'm glad the judge told this assholes to fuck off... but I also think that a properly written article and good editor would include why the picketers were there in the first place.

I linked the parts of why they were picketing. You could have read the entire article ... I only posted a portion of it in the original post. Did you miss how the Teamsters rejected a 9% raise, per year, over the next 2 years? It's in the frigging article. Do you always make comments about articles being fair prior to you reading the actual article?

Here it is again, for those who missed it in this thread or the actual article linked.

do they CHEAT THE COMMUNITY? seriously, who the fuck listens to those whiny protestors. such the biggest bunch of pikers ever.

When they're interrupting funeral services of children because the union's raise isn't enough, it becomes an issue. If the Westboro morons are a national story, so should be the Teamsters.

I read the Fox News article you posted, and you actually posted the entire article from Fox's site, not a portion as a you say. It seems you didn't read it if you can't understand that. The information is not in the Fox News post, it's in the link from the Washington Free Beacon, and Fox News choose to omit the reason why the Teamster were there when they posted the article.

It was in the FoxNews article when I read it. Are you going to continue to blame the messenger, or comment on the actual despicable actions of the Teamsters? I can't imagine what they would be striking for that would make interrupting the funeral of a child acceptable, but that's just me.

The explanation actually makes it worse for the Teamsters, IMO. What a bunch of selfish thugs. Parents lose a kid, and they are there laughing at the funeral.

I find it odd that Fox News would have changed what they posted in the 14 minutes in between when you posted it and when I read it. And then you decide to troll me with "You could have read the entire article... Do you always make comments about articles being fair prior to you reading the actual article?"

I couldn't agree more. They should have lead off the article with an emphasis on the 9% raise that they rejected, that to me is just as outrageous as picketing a child's funeral. A heading of "Union Rejects 9% raise; Pickets Child's Funeral" is more damaging and accurately sums up the whole article.

When they put the cement boots on you and bury you in cow shit, you hardly need to know why the cow shit so much.

Your question:

You ask why they are picketing and you don't think the article should state the reason behind why the picketers are there picketing? Seems to me that's exactly the question you asked.
I asked why they were picketing the funeral home. Nothing more, nothing less. Methinks thou dost project too much.

The rejection of a 9% raise is why these idiots are picketing.

Why are they picketing at a funeral home?

not every union is the same, especially compared to chicago teamsters (the worst of the worst id imagine)

that said, these guys are fucking classless asshats, dont need to be in a union to be a shithouse party rag

we also have teamsters in boston, fuhgettaboutit

see them in the hotel loading docks sometimes, standing around, i think they get paid by the truck, whether there is one or not

"Per" year, or "over" the next two years? The way it read, I was thinking it averaged to 4 1/2% per year. :dunno:

That's better than what most people are getting, isn't it? People are losing their jobs every day, and these union ghouls who work at funeral homes want raises. That's an odd enough job as it is, but to disrupt funerals because the boss didn't give you enough of a raise? Disgusting.

Teamsters are hacks. :)

lol, that last sentence convinces me that you are brainwashed by Foxnews.
