Means two bars of Scharffen-Berger go into it, plus dark cocoa, plus chocolate cookie crust. I think some whipped cream would be good on top.

And the heavens opened...

Conundrum:

So should I make my traditional mashed potatoes -

Yukon Golds
Cream Cheese
Salt and Pepper
Butter
Milk

or should I do the right thing, really mess with my arteriosclerosis, and go with half-and-half instead of milk?

Do it the french way, half butter half potatoes.

I do similar as above, but I also boil garlic with the potatoes and mash them together. Use a ricer, those things rock.

I use cream, butter and egg yolks in my potatoes. Duchess potatoes are cream and butter mashed potatoes turned into casserole with egg and then baked.

I always just make a small pox blanket and give it to the homeless so they dont get cold.

(Almost) Everything is good as far as I am concerned. Tend to avoid sugar though so abstain from any desert. Also am allergic to beets, so that's a no go too.

This year I'm thinking about doing a gravy bar, 6 different turkey gravies served with diced turkey breast on toothpicks before dinner so people can sample and select the ones they want for dinner. So far I've found these recipes:

  • Bacon-Caramelized Onion Gravy
  • Thyme-and-Apple Cider Gravy
  • Rosemary-and-Bourbon Gravy
  • Bay Leaf, Beer, And Orange Gravy
  • Wild Mushroom Gravy
  • Traditional Turkey Gravy

Figure you can't go wrong with bacon, beer and bourbon.

The gravy is done! Packed and ready to take to the family feast!

Didn't do the Apple Cider one.

The Bourbon gravy is my favorite. Really good.

I will unfortunately be away from my family on thanksgiving for work. Hope you guys will be with loved ones.

Not to worry, as always someone will take your place.

Getting ready to start the gravy for the gravy bar this year.

Dumping the caramelized onion gravy but adding bacon to the bourbon gravy.

So, planning Thanksgiving, decided to go classical on menu (plus alternates for the vegetarian/vegan/gluten free folks - it's like I have to make two dinners!)

Anyway. Last winter rains made it a good year for my apple trees, so definitely baking a Very Local Apple Pie. And making vegan ice "cream" sundae (coconut milk ice "cream" and vegan chocolate sauce). But need two more desserts, sorted and sorted and only got it down to five.

So Board, vote on my desserts! (vote for two)
It ain't apple pie of it doesn't have gravenstein apples in it. Granny Smiths are a second choice for apple.

This is what I will be cooking\serving for Thanksgiving 2017

Gormet Artisan Crackers with cheese slices (Smoked Cheddar, havarti, aged white cheddar with smoke summer sausage, red grapes

Loaded Deviled eggs

Honey Brined Roast turkey

Homade parmasean mash potatoes ( made with russet potatoes)

Three cheese macaroni

Sauted green bean cassarole

Peppered corn

Cranberry Focaccia stuffing

Turkey gravy

Giblet gravy

Fall salad with choice of dressing

Sweet potato casserole with marshmallows and carmalized pecans

Cranberry sauce

Pumpkin Cream pie

Vanilla ice cream

Wine (pinot noir and viognier), egg nog, apple cider, etc. Beer of course
Looks great except I'd replace the pumpkin cream pie with either mince meat or NY style cheese cake on a graham cracker crust and I'd skip the macaroni and cheese. Oh and my stuffing is going to be traditional bread cubes with sage herb, water chestnuts and giblets. Another thing I forgot, I'd replace the pinot noir with a fruity chenin blanc. I'd save the viognier for after dinner.

Here is my menu for the thanksgiving 2018:

Oven roasted turkey
Honey soaked Ham (my famous cheese sauce for the ham)
Parmesan Mash Potatoes (Traditional turkey gravy)
Stuffing
Four cheese Macaroni
Green Bean Casserole
White kernel Corn
Sweet Potato pie
Cranberry sauce
Cornbread
Rolls

Dessert

2 Pumpkin Pies (Whipped Cream)
Gingerbread cookies
Chocolate Fudge Layer Cake
Cherry Jello (Whipped Cream)

Apple Cider
Soda
Beer
Bourbon

Thanksgiving morning

Homemade cinnamon rolls
Hot Chocolate
Milk

How did last year's Thanksgiving thread get bumped ahead of 2018?
