You're welcome, always happy to help.
Of course you struck a chord--did you think you were going to get away with that? For those of us who've seen the other parts of the world that aren't dictated by a belief in both American Exceptionalism and Rights Endowed By a Creator, I think you'll find that we don't want that to happen here. It's just that fewer people are listening to those with experience, because #everyonegetsavote and #everyone'sopinionisvalid. Disagree.
I don't dismiss Our Nation's Youth (TM) out of hand. I dismiss those who think that a) they've found something awesome that all of us old fuddy-duddies didn't know about and/or can't comprehend, and b) don't have the life experience (a.k.a., getting hit in the face with reality, or seeing the joys of winning) to understand the macro level of what they want. It doesn't matter if you're Bernie Sanders (look up those threads, and tell me if I'm dismissing "youth" or dismissing "ideas that are bad") or Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez or Jerry Brown or Lenin or Che or anyone in between.
I didn't bring up China because
@riverman is way better at that than I am, but I'd ask what he thinks of the teachings of Mao and their impact on society. Bringing up the Cuba and Venezula experiments,
comrade, are not fear-mongering postures. They are deliberate attempts to identify the future--if for some magical reason the socialist fantasy comes to pass here--to those who think that a rosy vision of the future lies behind every piece of our lives that we give further away to a benevolent government power. You could easily bring up Greece, England, France, Sweden...
