2020-2021 OFFICIAL WIN/LOSS PREDICTIONS!!!!!!

That's right, its time!!!!!

Currently, Our last preseason game is scheduled for Dec. 18th. Though the regular season is not yet published on the Blazers site, it should only be days after the last preseason game, so buckle up and get your predictions in. We are right around the corner and it will sneak up fast!

The following rules apply from years past:

1) You must have your prediction in prior to tip off of the first game.

2) Your prediction must be posted in its own post in this thread.

3) You are allowed to change your prediction at any time prior to tip off of Game 1, however IF you change your prediction, you must tag me @Orion Bailey in the change, whether it be an edit or with a new post. If this does not happen and your prediction is not updated, I cannot be help responsible! LOL.


We will go with a couple of tiebreakers befitting the year we have had.

First tie breaker will be how many total games will the Blazers roster missed as a cumulative for the season due to Covid? Example: If Kanter and Melo miss the same game, that counts as two games.

Second Tie Breaker will be how many total games will the NBA have to postpone/cancel due to covid?

This is only covid related and games missed due to injury or other circumstances will not be counted.

So your prediction should read something like this:

W/L/Division Rank/Blazer player games missed/NBA Games missed

Example:

44-28-2nd-13-19

I think we will go 44-22, finish 2nd in our division, 13 Blazers will miss games this season and the NBA will have to postpone/cancel 19 games.
(remember, the NBA is planning on a 72 game season)

Now...Let's just hope the season goes relatively smooth and most all games are played as planned, so our predictions will remain valid.

44-22? Are you saying you are predicting the Blazers won't play all of their 72 games? Thats only 66...they won't play 6 games?

(I'd expect NBA players to be getting vaccines well before the season is over)

That was just an example and yes, in that example the Blazers miss 6 games due to covid.
 
We will be 38-34, finish 4nd in our division, 15 Blazers will miss games this season and the NBA will have to postpone/cancel 21 games.

Yeah that may be low. There are 30 teams with 72 games a piece which with overlap means 1080 games... for the record I don't think any games will get canceled because 72 is such a crucial number for TV revenue but I think it will be that high because we are indoors and with the same amount of teams and 11 games in the books outdoors, the NFL has postponed 18 games. Now we might have a vaccine for the players at some point this season but if front line workers and the elderly aren't getting that vaccine until March and NBA players are neither of those two things I just think that it will be around 60 games into the season before wide enough vaccine distribution stops spread to contact sports leagues. So if as an indoor sport we had the exact same problems as an outdoor sport, then we'd be at 98 games but I think we'll see a higher occurrence in the NBA. I guess we'll see.

I suppose it's possible but how many players would have to test positive to postpone 200 games? 1/4 of the players? 1/3?

that would also mean, on average, that each team would see 7 games postponed. That seems like a lot, on balance. Obviously, to reach that 200 number some teams would have to 'lose' 15-20 games and that's way too many to make up in the break between the two sections of the season

I'm not saying you're wrong, but if it comes to something like that, 200 games postponed, the season will be a mess

Well the NBA has been typically more careful than the other leagues so one thing that is causing PPDs in the NFL is that they are contact tracing and quarantining. So it may not take a positive test. I don't know what the NBA's criteria will be for postponing a game, I would assume if 5 or more players on one team get quarantined that they will postpone but who knows. The truth is these outbreaks come in little bunches like that. The other policy I'm interested in is once someone has tested positive or been exposed to someone who tested positive, how long will they have to quarantine. With all of the back to backs planned, one outbreak could mean 4 games postponed. If every team has one outbreak that causes 4 games to be postponed then that's obviously already 120 games. It could just pile up quickly if even half of the teams have more than one outbreak. The other complication off the top of my head is that if they are quarantining because of contact tracing then those players who might miss games and cause PPDs could later actually test positive and cause another postponement.

I do a spreadsheet after the first game starts and organize all predictions in numerical order.
Not enough options in the poll for something like this.
Then i keep track and update throughout the season as to where everyone is sitting.
I do you one better than a poll. ;)

The Blazers finished the season 44-38, 3 games over .500, completely annihilating the professionals' predictions prior to the season!!!!

One of the best seasons ever as a Blazer fan in my opinion, because of how we proved so many wrong!! including my self ( I'm in the loser bracket too!!)


A special thanks to Charcoal Filtered for being a standup man and paying off the bet we had and taking me to the game last night!!! Had a great time!!! :)

However, I find it interesting that of the numbers the We chose ranging from 25-50 no one chose 44,47 or 40 and the Blazers happened to land on one of those three. What were the odds of that?

As promising as our future is now looking with the addition of THE BEAST!, This season has been mostly a disappointment for the bulk of the members here. This is evidence by the expectations presented below, of which the Blazers were not able to meet.
