If Simmons were to happen for Portland, it would more likely be this summer after BRK and PHI failed to work something out today. We really don't have the assets to make it happen today unless BRK basically just gives up. We will be in a better situation as cap relief to create enough space for PHI if Harden opts out this summer.

I just don't see how this would feasibly happen. Yes we could acquire Simmons for space, but Philly would also need to send out Tobias Harris and possibly more to get cap space. We couldn't acquire both players. So then we got to bring in OKC type team as a 3rd team with us or Philly giving them assets for Harris.

Lets say we get all the way to where this frame work is drafted. Then doesn't Brooklyn hear this, and they just accept Simmons for Harden? There is no way Morey would exclude giving Brooklyn a chance to trump our offer, he loves extracting every tiny bit of value he can in a trade.

Finally, lets just say we did find a way to complete a deal for Simmons if we give up a bunch of draft assets; what the heck is even left to build around Dame and Simmons? Seems like we would be a worse version of this years Lakers, ultimately having to rebuild in a few years anyways but without the draft assets we lost bringing in Simmons.

The chance to acquire Simmons was back when we had CJ, Powell, Roco, Nance along with a ton of future first round picks. Now we don't have the assets to acquire Simmons with teammates that make any sense.

Bledsoe, guys who have been traded can be moved in single deals,
that's just rearranging deck chairs at this point. you're not gonna find a taker for bledsoe unless you add compensation, which i have no intention of doing. our cupboards are bone dry at this point.

TPE could be used, pick - plenty of AMMO

i'm not giving these up unless it's for a true difference maker, of which none are available now. better to keep them for the summer

TPE is effectively off the table until later in the Summer. Bled's contract is unlikely be used because who it might bring isn't worth the cap space they would be anchored with.

Wow, how far DiVincenzo has fallen. I guess Patty C made him expendable. Not sure I understand the Clippers here.

Of course, Bagley's fallen further, but then that had already happened. So basically the Kings traded the guy they took ahead of Luka Doncic for DiVincenzo.

Could we get randle in a pure salary dump?

i don't get the trade nurk stuff either. you're not gonna be able to find a better C than him, and he's gonna come back for a deal that's undervalued once again because the market isn't there for Cs this summer. He's Dame's best friend on the team at this point, and when engaged, he's a top 7 center.

Makes no sense to just dump him just to get rid of his caphold in hopes of signing a guy in FA.

We're not getting Ayton. We're not getting Bridges. And we don't want to use max capspace on a guard.

Think this through, people.

Agreed....very unlikely. It's why I started with 'If'.

The Clipper deal totally fucked us. We couldn't even get a first back. I'm all for shooting your shots, but this was so hasty.

Do you think the Knicks would be open to it though?

I believe the Knicks would be more open to that than Portland is. But they don't want to just give him away for an ending contract either.

Counterpoint: the only way we ever had a chance to acquire Simmons was by trading Dame, and we still have that chance if we want it.

Good points. I would trade Nurk if we could get a first round pick or a player such as Grant back. But I wouldn't trade him for second rounders or another expiring contract.
