in all honesty, we should bring him back, nurk needs a backup

I wouldn't have a problem with it, either. I don't think he'd jeopordize the tank, but he might. He found ways to contribute here that eluded him in his other stops.

Mavs trade makes no sense. So they gonna start 3 PG's next to each other. Bertans sucks. I guess Punchable face Powell gets a boost in minutes.

The Blazers traded two highly paid starting quality but not championship players) for the ability to retain the prospect they do value (Simons) going forward - because the organization would not have been able to sign him going forward otherwise. The only difference between what happened and what you identified as a need is that the prospect was already on the roster.

In other words, the organization believes that with opportunity, the prospect they would have lost would provide the production of the assets that were lost.

The reasonable business equation to make is not Roco + Powell > Keon Johnson which is what is happening this year, but ask if Roco + Powell > Simon + Roco - because next year, if the trade was not made, the Blazers would lose Roco anyway and not be able to sign Simons. So, basically, since we can eliminate Roco from both sides of the equation - the question was - is Powel > Simons. Obviously the organization did not think so.

You can argue that better options were available - and maybe they were and maybe they were not - I certainly do not have the data to back this assertion - but your basic formula to asses the trade in a vacuum is not right.

This is ridiculous, without the trade the Blazers could easily resign Simons.

The Blazers could've traded Roco for assets like the Spurs got for Thad or let him walk at the end of the year.

The Blazers could've traded Norm for assets like the Wizards got with Dinwiddle, or trade him in the summer, or just left his reasonable contract on the roster next year.

None of those outcomes cost the Blazers a chance to resign Simons.

Sweet. Tear up the roster to overpay a young player who has proven himself for maybe 12 games of solid play.

Sounds like an Olshey play. Allan Crabbe and Meyers Leonard on line 1

I can't see KP trading with us unless he absolutely rapes our front office--something not that hard to achieve.

Why would KP have anything against our front office? The owner that fired him died, and literally everyone else is gone except the interim GM who KP himself managed, is proud of, and publicly endorsed.

for what? we don't want to win games. I'm guessing Nurk goes down with a mysterious injury sometime in the near future.

I get tanking, but you also get to a point where it doesn't help your younger players develop if they are playing out of position or not close to roles that they'd play in a real competitive situation.

So fine, let Nurk sit with a phantom injury so he's not hurt going into next year, but get a center that's like a Great Value Nurk so you aren't forcing Ant to do things that won't help him next year and develop bad habits or having GB3 get shoved into the fifth row trying to guard real centers. You can get players who still will lose games for you while simulating an actual team.

Reposting now that the deadline is over...

Cap Studs: looking for a favor...

I was wondering if one of you guys would start a new thread post-deadline showing the net effect of all of these trades, personnel-wise, pick-wise, and cap-wise.
thanks in advance, The Real Wiz

Grudges aren't rational. He has rebuffed us on more than one occasion.

He didn't get along with their superstar. It's likely that simple :dunno:

I'm convinced that whole "KP won't trade with Portland" narrative is bullshit spin that Olshey floated to deflect from blame for him not using CJ in an offer for Paul George.

If Portland was offering the best deal, I think KP would have accepted, especially considering the Blazers are in the other conference

"Well that was a whole lotta nothin."

Unbelievable. We trade CJ, Norm, and RoCo and couldn’t get an All Star to play with Dame. All we have to show is Winslow and Hart. Unbelievable. There aren’t any All Stars available who will sign here with our cap space. Beal maybe? Ayton maybe. Fuck this.

Ayton they will match. Beal and LaVine are guards which doesn't seem to make sense with Dame & Simons. One of the next best available free agents is probably Roco.

The CJ trade I'm ok with, we got a first round pick, Hart might be decent, and CJ had the potential to be the worst of those contracts. The Norm Roco trade is indefensible, and really hurt this teams rebuild.

We are on the path of a long losing road ahead.

Time to trade Dame and start over.
