But a huge fraction of us don't have the ability or opportunity to live off the land. Either we continue to be able to shop for food, or we turn cannibalism into more than just a fun hobby.

There are also urban rooftop gardens. I have seen some people in apartments using deck rail and hanging planters.

Some will go as far as using aeroponic vertical garden towers.

There are options.

Finally NT Gov changes Nursing home policy with Covid patients. Should have been done from the get go, what a travesty!

I'm going to leave my PERS account for my grandchildren to inherit one day....won't be much but it'll be my stimulus package to them all
One of the reasons my wife elected to pull/roll hers over to other investments was so she/we could establish the kids as beneficiary's. Otherwise, only the surviving spouse would get an elected percentage and monthy amount, once that person dies, the State gets the pension.

some serious Socialism here...

https://www.yahoo.com/news/proposal-2-000-per-month-171322001.html

"Similar to a House bill proposed in mid-April, the senators called for $2,000 cash payments to every American who earns less than $120,000. it would expand to $4,000 for married couples and also provided an extra $2,000 for each child up to three.'

Married couple with 3 kids gets 120k a year for doing nothing?

Luckily they will still need to work, because that is still lower middle class in LA.

Its a great capitalist country first, that can provide generous social programs to those in need and continue to build prosperity. Its never a socialist country first that can provide GENEROUS social programs and opportunities for prosperity. Look at Sweden they were able to implement generous social programs for option health and schooling only because they firstly were a very prosperous capitalist country, which allows citizens to pay the much higher tax.

So I guess you are saying that the USA is not great, and that's why we can't afford generous social programs.

SAD!

My feelings are to remain a capitalist prosperous country and with efficient management of government and controlled spending, we support the social programs needed.
There's a reason so many around the world want to come here and many want to become citizens, I contend its because of freedoms enjoyed and opportunities presented along with already existing programs that assist those with special needs.

It has a lot to do with how expenses go up. When it's unexpected and/or immediate, prices tend to rise. When it's phased in or something the industry chooses to do over time, very little of it goes into increased prices:

https://www.upjohn.org/research-highlights/does-increasing-minimum-wage-lead-higher-prices

I'm not sure. I think it depends on the speed of the opening. If things are opened slowly, the economy won't need everyone back at work immediately--if it's true that a large portion of the workforce doesn't want to go back to work (which I think is a dubious claim, even if some are doing better on unemployment), that's theoretically something companies can see coming and plan for over the next year.

I think workers being slow to return to work was always a possibility due to perceived health risk, so it's probably something companies have been thinking about for a while.

Ground beef was priced at $10.99 a pound yesterday...we passed.

I make my own deer burger and the way I do it you truly cannot tell the difference between it and beef burger. All it costs me is the price for beef fat/scraps which is about $1.00 per pound. When doing the final grind I add salt, pepper, garlic powder, and diced vidalia onion and a little soy.

So not counting my time for making it, I figure I've got about $1.50 per pound, $2.50 for adding bacon and cheese. I use this mix for chili, spaghetti, tacos, etc., I also make a few pounds for burgers on the grill and for that mix I add bacon and high temperature diced cheese...better and juicier than any burger you'll find at fast food drive thrus.

I usually make about 20 pounds at a time and put them in quart freezer zip lock bags (get as much air out of bags as possible and then wrap in butcher's paper before freezing)

Pretty simple;

3 parts deer meat (REMOVE ALL FAT), bled out in water for 5-6 hours cut into 2" pieces
1 part beef fat/scraps
salt, pepper, garlic, onion etc., per your taste
optional; for burgers, add diced bacon and/or high temperature diced cheese (cheddar, pepper jack, mozz)
optional; for burgers, add soy/worcestershire/or your preferred marinade

Tips;
Use coarsest grinding plate first, then mix deer meat and beef fat/scraps and then add spices/diced onions/cheese and a little water and mix all together and then run thru grinder again using a medium size grinding plate.

Also, and this really helps to get a good grind; out meat and fat in the freezer for and hour or so to make the meat and fat very firm. (not frozen)

That isn't due to increased wages. That's due to supply-chain being disrupted and so supply is low, therefore prices are going up.

Increased wages (if they happen at all, which I think is unlikely) would only happen later when "things go back to normal" and companies suddenly need a large influx of workers after laying so many off before.

Maybe I lost track of the convo, and if so, I apologize, but I didn't think it was just about increased wages causing costs of goods to rise, I thought it was how all of this combined is going to make the costs of goods rise? That companies will not take the losses and it will all just be passed down to the consumer?

But speaking of wages specifically:

https://reason.com/2020/01/10/a-15-...stroy-jobs-and-hurt-americas-poorest-workers/

Seems I find alot of info, or reports, that say wage increases in general, get passed down to the consumer.

But really my larger concern is all the additional costs incurred by the virus aside from wages increases.

Additions labor to man the door and manage the customers to make sure they adhere to the safety regulations. inability to have larger crowds to help the sales rate per hour for bars and restaurants, etc.

To me it seems, companies will either need to increase the costs of their goods/services, or go under because they cant afford it.

Got my last Blazers check May 1st. Was very grateful for getting paid for games missed. So May 2nd applied for unemployment and have heard NOTHING! Tried calling and every time I do, I get a busy signal. We did get our stimulus check right away, but now just hoping I get unemployment.
Starting to get a bit concerned.
