The curious case of Gerald Henderson

It was hilarious watching his face last night on the few occasions they panned over to the bench. CJ was walking over, swag on high, and smiles for everyone, and Gerald looks over with a look of, "oh shit, that dude just took all my playing time."

I think Stotts will bring Henderson along slowly with spot minutes off the bench until he gets his legs under him. Eventually, though, he's likely the starter, in a 3 guard rotation. Ruffio, I mean, Crabbe will go back to the bench

CJ had a nice game at the starting SG spot, but we need to see if he can cover that every night. I would not get rid of Henderson until CJ shows he and Dame can stand toe to toe with some of the best back courts in the West.

Crabbe can learn from Henderson, Henderson can get the backup SG minutes once healthy, and Crabbe can take his spot once we trade Henderson mid-season. Depending on who we trade for.

I am fine with Hendo playing some over Crabbe. I don't want him playing at backup SF over Harkless though. On a team full of surprises Harkless might just be the biggest by the end of the year. That 3 shot is money so far.

Hendo is undervalued in here for sure. Agree with that. But at the same time, it isn't about this year. It is about letting our players develop. So I say let him be vet influence and not play huge minutes unless Crabbe just sucks it up.

At the time of the trade, everyone assumed it was Batum-for-Henderson, with Vonleh stupidly included as a throw-in.

I think we can now safely say the actual deal was Batum-for-Vonleh, with Henderson thrown in as salary ballast. He may have been an OK player pre-injury, but his current value is zero.

Where are we going to fit him into this lineup? I like his skillset and his vet presence but is he worth keeping this season? I'm sure he could bring back something decent around the All-Star break when some team really needs a solid wing for their rotation (think us last season).

What he excels at is what CJ excels at as well.....the mid-range game. The do it in different ways. Hendo creates by being uber athletic while CJ does it with change of pace and ball-handling. Henderson is the better defender and a little bigger but CJ is more of a threat from deep and can play a little PG.

If they continue to improve, I'll take Crabbe/Harkless at the backup SG instead and move Henderson for a future asset.

Don't think you get more than a late 2nd rounder for him though.

I think he'll be tradebait to a contender if they lose a rotation wing. And as a starter on a playoff team, he SHOULD be worth more than a low second rounder. Maybe some sucker team will offer Will Barton, Victor Claver and Thomas Robinson for him.

Are there no teams like the old Nets who desperately wanted another Gerald from us?

Where would those three guys fit on this team?

Vonleh > Robinson
Harkless > Barton
Anyone > Claver

I like you as a poster, but I believe right now you are spreading falsehoods. From my POV not much of what you described actually took place. You ought give credit to the many posters on this board whom actually understood from the beginning that Vonleh was the prize rather than create an alternate reality where they didn't.

Agree with Paine; you're talking out of your ass here. Find one post where someone said that?

It was always Nic for Vonleh. Some though we wanted Hendo as a throw in others though his value was less than nothing and Charlotte insisted we absorb his contract.

Assuming there aren't any stellar suitors for Gerald out there, how are ya'll feeling about having him on our bench into the future?
Not a huge fan of it because I think some young guys (like Harkless) need more time and Stotts would be too tempted to roll out Gerald for too many minutes instead in that scenario.

IMO Harkless got a steady diet of minutes for a long time and frankly has not shown much so Hendo is now getting more minutes, Hark has shot only 26% from 3 this year - in a Stotts offense that ain't good

I'm guessing that if we don't find a taker for him come trade deadline, he gets benched.

I don't disagree with much of that other then I will say we need to make a decision on Harkless and I don't think that decision is reached (at least in my mind if not POR's). We almost know Henderson will be gone (one way or another) so what does it hurt to play a guy who might even get you a better draft pick so you can evaluate him? He has short poorly from deep (after a good start) but on limited attempts (so it isn't like he is chucking). That isn't his game. It is attacking. Stotts can surely find a player time that does that (you would think).

Repeatedly going 0-1 will do that to your percentages. I'm not saying that he'll become a great shooter with steady attempts, but he's certainly not the sort of guy that'll hit shots cold off the bench.

Both Henderson and Kaman will be gone at trade deadline. Neil has got something pretty big brewing.

Henderson might draw some interest from Boston (multiple Draft picks) and OKC. Both have SG needs and Henderson would fit in well there.

Harkless/Kaman/Leonard/Alexander for Love...

Sign Whiteside in the offseason...

Dame/Frazier
CJ/Crabbe
Aminu/Henderson
Love/Vonleh/Davis
Whiteside/Plumlee/Davis

Thats a contender in my opinion....
I think Stotts could make Love work great next to an interior presence like Whiteside and a couple of kick ass offensive guards... Our D would be Whiteside, Davis, Aminu and Harkless leading the charge.

Thaty some serious offense and Defense I think. Top ten in both, possibly top 5.

Can NO pull something like that off? Did I offer enough for Love?
