Another interesting note from MSNBC. They're saying the Tea Party at 37% support is weakest in Nevada and Illinois (I think Illinois). Anyhow, I remember posting a couple months ago that Tea Party support was in the low 20% range. They clearly picked up steam.
 
Kasich wins governor of Ohio. I think that's a sweep of every race in Ohio for the republicans.

Kasich is one of few republicans I have huge respect for.

Toomey declared winner of PA senate race by AP, MSNBC refuses to call it.

CHICAGO (CBS) – Republican Mark Kirk has captured the Senate seat once held by the president, dealing an embarrassing blow to Democrats, according to projected numbers from the Associated Press.

Despite only 96 percent of precincts reporting at 11:15 p.m., with Kirk leading 48 to 46 percent for Giannoulias, the AP projects a victory for Kirk.

Kirk defeated Illinois Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias in one of the nation’s ugliest and most closely watched Senate races to fill the Senate seat once held by President Barack Obama.

Tea time: Republicans locking up House control

WASHINGTON – Republicans marched toward House control Tuesday night in midterm elections shadowed by recession, locking up enough Democratic seats to install a conservative majority certain to challenge President Barack Obama at virtually every turn. Speaker-in-waiting John Boehner, his voice breaking with emotion, called the results "a repudiation of big government and a repudiation of politicians who refuse to listen to the people."

Despite gains, Republicans fell short in their effort to gain control of the Senate and take full command of Congress. They also wrested at least eight governorships from Democrats.

Boehner and his Republicans needed to gain 40 seats for a majority, and had exactly that number in hand a few minutes before midnight in the East. They led for another 24.

3 senate races left. Republicans +6.

Republicans will win Alaska. They're ahead in Colorado. They're behind in Washington.
 
It seems to my uneducated eye that Reid winning (and the D's keeping the Senate) will just make it very difficult for Obama to win in 2012 unless a big-time financial turnaround happens. The R's in 2012 can point to whatever bill they try to pass getting stonewalled in the Senate or vetoed and therefore stopping jobs from being created, taxed lowered, whatever. It's tougher if they control both and nothing gets done.

Also, it seems like many of the D's that lost today were moderates and Blue Dogs. IMO this means that you'll have a super-liberal D side going up against a Tea-infused R side on many of the issues.
 
So...is this country going to be gridlocked for the next 2 years?

It's a symptom of a larger problem: the electorate is dissatisfied with both parties. This is our third wave election in the past decade, going from the D to the R, the R to the D and now back from the D to the R. The moderates on each side are getting crushed and if the GOP blows it, the next step is a third party.
