The election results thread

According to oregonlive.com's results page, Multnomah and Lane counties are the only ones with significant votes left to count, and Kitz is pulling 70% from Multnomah. He's only down 11K right now, and I'll be surprised if he wins by less than that. Dudley may as well concede now.

Nah, he can hope to finish close enough to have a recount.

I think we've learned not to vote for the guy that can give a good speech. Jindal would be a tremendous VP. I'm keeping an eye on Mitch Daniels.

Another great choice, though he wrote Bush's deficit budgets.

Multnomah County says they'll finish counting at midnight tonight. Lane County promises an update at 5pm. Not looking good for the Dud, but as of now he's still leading by 5000 votes.

Good job by Duds. History might indicate that it should have never been this close.

If only he hadn't had his picture taken with ABM... that was the final blow.

You can explain that you aren't a witch, but trying to deny photographic evidence of who you consort with... can't be done.

Oregonian projects Kitzhaber is winner.

Bout damn time.

I wonder how Oregon would be different today if Tom McCall had beat Vic Atiyeh when McCall tried to do what Kitzhaber just succeeded at doing.

Frankly, I'm honored I carry that much influence...despite the final outcome.

Surprise, surprise. Multnomah County and its incredibly slow vote counters miraculously put Kitz ahead for the win. My guess is it will be just outside the margin for an acceptable recount.

I really do love this state. It's a bit like living in a real-life WWE episode at times. I'd say 'soap opera', but soap operas are at least unpredictable.

Maybe if the Republicans hadn't picked a bozo like Dudley, it wouldn't have ended this way. They should have gone with someone that could try to pull more votes from the Libertarians and Constitutionalists.

Well, that's a good point. I'm basically a Libertarian, but I did vote for Duds. Too bad many of my fellow libertarians pissed away their vote, because the other party candidates gave Kitz this election.

Ha, I called it on the recount margin!

elpdx RT @oregonian: Mathematical calculations based on trends show Kitz winning by 10,000, Kitz 49% Dudley 48%, no auto recount #ORElection http://bit.ly/czVWRv

Hey, as long as Oregonians want to allow this to happen, I really can't complain. God damn it, though, it is laughably predictable.

That's easy.

The usury laws in this state, which had long limited % charged on loans to a maximum of 14%, would still be intact. The Oregon Real Estate downturn of the 80's would not have happened at all, tens of thousands of former Oregon homeowners would instead still be current Oregon homeowners, and Oregon would have landed among the least scorched states during this present downturn.

Vic Atiyeh was the most disastrous Governor this state has ever had to endure, and the ill effects of his backdoor deals still drag this state down financially.

Well, it was either going to be within the recount margin or outside of it - those are the only two choices - and since almost all elections fall outside of it, you were making a pretty safe bet.

I'm no fan of Allen Alley, but I suspect he would have won had he been nominated.

Or even someone who had some sort of qualifications at all.

Well that's too bad as I was really hoping Dudley would win. Kitzhaber failed as governor before and I don't expect anything different this time.

I was really hoping the opposite, as I didn't see Kitzhaber as failing before. But, I guess we'll both see how he does this time. And probably disagree about it.

Probably. But I'm okay with that.

barfo I'm curious what you liked about Kitz's first two terms. What did he do that you thought was successful? I'm genuinely curious.
