I think you misunderstood the story. The objection is to him talking to the press, not the president.

For the record, that is not how I took it. But I will go back and read it and watch it again.
 
His job is to drive our finely tuned killing machine in whatever manner his boss, President Obama, deems appropriate.

He needs to STFU and drive. Or retire.

His obvious political aspirations could eventually lead to a court martial if he doesn't get a grip on himself.
 
I agree that:

A) Pelosi seems to be a borderline nutcase drunk on power who wishes to take on even Obama.
B) She did not mean what you think she meant.
C) McChrystal probably had that report leaked. And that was wrong. I understand why he probably did it, but really bad idea if you are expecting your troops to respect your authority. There are other ways to "make a statement".
 
I saw the interview with Charlie Rose. The real news made in that interview was Pelosi saying she wants to impose a national sales tax on everyone, in addition to raising income taxes.

Ever been in the military? If not, why not talk of things you understand- like, Roger Maris.

The commanding general has to be in communication with his boss- the President. That's military 101A.'

I dunno - a straight consumption / sales tax with certain goods excepted (food types, medicine, etc.) might make for a more fair system...or maybe not.

It doesn't matter, I think the odds of a national sales tax ever passing are slim.

Do you mean instead of income tax, or in addition to income tax? If the latter, you're basically asking the people with more money to pay more taxes than they already are. We must have different ideas of fair.

If you mean the former, then I agree, it could be a reasonable solution.

Anyway, the incredibly high tax rates/system, including a high sales tax, is working wonders here in Cali. This state is going down in flames.

What bb30 said. I would rather see us have a VAT than income tax because it encourages savings and taxes consumption. It's progressive because the rich spend more money.

She wants to add like 5% VAT (sales tax) in addition to raising the existing income tax rates.

The problem with VAT is two-fold. A sales tax is shown at the end. A VAT is a tax at every stage of production. As a result, it's an invisible tax. That fact makes it easy to increase without much protest.

Second, it's a new tax, not an increase in an existing one. We may look at it as a way to give the government revenue to pay for existing programs. The Congress will look at it as a new revenue stream to fund NEW spending. No thanks.

How about NONE of us pay any tax until they all leave the government buildings empty?
Then we can start over with people who care about our country and don't just want a cushy job where they don't do anything but talk and abuse their power.

Yep, a VAT is added at every stage. From the buying of the rubber to make the tires to the sale of the tires. 5% (expected initial rate) of each purchase.

For me as a consumer and CA resident, the noticable effects will be the 15% sales tax on everything as well as the increased prices on everything as the merchants and manufacturers pass on their VAT expense to me.

So if we just replace Pelosi, everyone else currently in government is ok with you? That does make the problem considerably simpler.

My preference is that govt. be made up of ordinary citizens who go serve a term and then go back to their farms or businesses in the private sector.

That is, not power hungry antagonistic buttholes who "serve" for the purpose of exerting their power over people and extorting bribes.
