I have previously posted something like this but wanted to include this insurance company bashing article. Not sending the link due to the insurance aspect of it, but to make a larger point. That is that we are on the precipice of a multibillion dollar set of never ending lawsuits regarding concussions (and will be expanded to other injuries as well over time as there is money out there to score). And it matters not whether there is liability to leagues, coaches, helmet manufacturers... like the smoking lawsuits, eventually they will start being won regardless of actual liability and then if insurers are forced to indemnify (policies deny coverage for this, but some liberal judges are prone to force carriers to cover if it makes an insurance company suffer and for no other reason. If you doubt me, read some recent decisions from the Washington State Supreme Court.).
But where I am going with all this is that if carriers (and leagues, coaches, equipment manufacturers...) are going to be held jointly and severally liable for all football injuries then there isn't enough money to pay for the 'victims' and more specifically insurance carriers will have no option but to stop insuring such potential risks and without the security insurance offers, football will have to end. We have seen that it isn't enough that people knew 100% full well the potential harm of smoking, smoked anyway and the cigarette manufacturers are now held 100% liable for those decisions made and were it not for the unbelievable assets of those companies, there would be no more tobacco in the US. Football doesn't have that luxury.
So don't be surprised if the game disappears in its entirety within 20 years. Let’s all hope UO wins a natty before then.
