Oh, let me spill the beans. I need a dialysis unit in the hospital, so it's gotta be a full hospital. Also, I need a lot of supporting units.
Mango used to be my wife's favorite. She got some absolutely fantastic mangoes when she lived with her sister in the Philippines. She was a volunteer candy striper comforting Korean soldiers wounded in the Vietnam War. Her brother-in-law worked on an American military base as a contractor and a retired Major. She had many proposals for marriage from the Korean soldiers but she wasn't interested. What she found in me still amazes me. Anyhow, I told you guys she was very sweet.
diabetes is huge here in the islands and besides the local hospitals there are several private companies including Liberty Dialysis in keahou that have over 6 patients at a time on their units. it truly is a health scourge here.

OMG, I want to do that.

In all honesty, I like Marzy, I'm just not fond of his politics. Would I go fishing with him? Hell yes, as long as we never talked politics or his views on certain racial types. There would have to be ice cold, and I mean really cold, beer. ps, Marzy drinks beer, ask me how I know.

i had to come back to this comment and tell you i wish i could like it a hundred times. the part about being able to separate the person from the politics really touched something. with all the labeling of folks as this or that because of a comment or opinion is way, way too common today. your being able to disassociate the person from the politics and rhetoric is commendable and frequently lacking so much in today's society.

anybody who thinks Hawaiians aren't stuck indoors has never lived a rainy season in Hilo before...one of the wettest places on earth

My problem is that I don't pee. I've got to have dialysis to not only get out the waste products from my blood but also the fluid. Therefor, I limit myself to one, and on a rare occasion two, beers. I've been warned repeatedly that excess fluid is bad for my heart.

true dat, spoiled kona side.
aloha
My cousin lived on the Hilo side. Lost his boat to a storm. We visited there 'cause I wanted to see Hilo Hattie's store. My mom got her to attend Oswego's (now Lake Oswego's) first water festival. She's the lady in South Pacific, one of my favorite movies.

wise uncle told me, "beers are like tits, one just ain't right, two is symmetrical and perfect, and three is just too many"

Now that's what I call fishing! Awesome.

Oh, I know. I just never gave Hilo much of a thought as a place to move to because of that very reason. I'd be looking for a climate to kill the northwest moss off of my carcass if I made the move.

I like your uncle. Of course, in the deep South, where I'm from, sort of, and in Korea, where my wife is from, every man friend of your parents is an 'uncle'.
Mostly, I like your civilized way of consuming beer. I presume that goes with the great fellowship that I've come to expect from Hawaiians. Oh, and pulling in fish like that ain't all bad, so it's got something going for it, too.

My brother's been down that same road. His kidneys failed in his mid-30's. Fortunately, he got a transplant after just a year or so. That one lasted nearly 20 years and then he was on dialysis for about 5 years. Got a second kidney transplant a couple of years ago and is doing great. For having such a sucky medical issue, he's been fortunate.

similarly here any adult male older than you is addressed as uncle. here is a sign of respect. needless to say i here it way too often these days.

had 2 small marlin [100-150lbs] to the boat a couple times before they come unbuttoned yesterday, rubbah hooks anyway.

You ever try the sea kayak fishing thing? I watched a video on a couple of guys doing that. Looked like a good way to become a bobber for a shark or other large fish.

I love the rain and Hilo is my favorite place in the islands...same with Oregon...keeps out the Californians and New Yorkers

I've lived here in Oregon all of my life except for a couple of years while I was in the Air Force. Never minded the rain until a couple of years ago. For some reason, it dawned on me that I really didn't have to live under the clouds, so I'm looking at my options now that retirement is approaching. My wife got into a big art show in Scottsdale, so we're going to spend three months there after the first of the year. I guess I'll find out if the dry weather is all my imagination says it should be.

it takes a village....Hawaiians are much like the country folks all around asia...the Chinese call you older brother or younger brother more than uncle..same with sister and auntie

i have 2 kayaks but mostly they get used by visiting family. the twins when they come use them for fishing often. they fish the walleye tournaments in washington and oregon and do well. they have caught a few fish though. ono, uku, and kaku as well as some bottomfish. [wahoo, grey snapper and baracuda hawaiian translation]

if you are ever back in the islands.......................
ukuleles, warm ocean breezes, slack key

Talk about frustrating. I've caught exactly two sturgeon. One was 23 1/2 inches back when the regulations said they had to be at least 24 inches. The other was 35 1/2 inches back when they had to be at least 36 inches. Talk about pissed.

When I retire I'm gonna hang another 100 watt bulb and a poster of Hawaii in mom's basement. It'll be sunny all the time.

barfo

I've been trout fishing here and have been pretty lucky the last few weeks...going again tomorrow.
