What the fuck is up with the god damned rocks all over the road; Jesus Christ, we live in the PNW. It SNOWS HERE, get some snow tires, or all-wheel drive and lay off the damn accelerator. L2-drive!

Why oh why must they litter the damn free-ways with medium sized pebbles to be flung up from semi's and bigger trucks like missiles, so that the people sportin' Kia Rio's with "Touring" tires can drive on roads!

/RANT OFF

yeah, I got a rock chip on my VW R32's windshield this morning... not a big deal, but freaking annoying.. I just wish they'd send a street cleaner up the freeways 1-2 days after laying those pebbles down, I think the rocks cause more damage then they prevent...:sigh: :sigh:

The bad thing with snow tires is they tear the shit out of the roads during the majority of the winter when we are having a typical weather pattern with very little snow. I hate those things. 90% of the country outlaws them because they are a huge taxpayer burden when you have to repave major thoroughfares every two years.

Get some chains, use them when the weather gets bad, and take them off when it's over.

I do agree that the gravel is annoying, but the alternative is a salt-based compound that rusts the shit out of your car. Just ask people who live in the midwest how much they love that stuff.

Sorry about your car man. That blows. On the bright side, if you get the windshield replaced at Empire Glass, you'll get 24 free dinners at Shari's. Nothing says "I love you" like taking the wife or girlfriend for a nice chicken fried steak or some liver and onions.

LOL at gravel. They should just use salt. It's like here in Missouri, they only had like an inch of snow, and it's been on the road for the past 2 days, and everyone's freaking out. We'd have that shit melted already in Wisconsin and have clear roads.

It's the hills and ice that causes the issues here.

and tomorrow is supposed to be just as bad! yikes ;) can't i just head to the mountain early? ;)

Why doesn’t ODOT just use salt?

ODOT doesn’t use salt because it has detrimental effects to vehicles, structures and the environment. Salt, rock salt, or road salt are the common terms for sodium chloride, a product traditionally used in the eastern United States. While road salt is an effective tool for melting snow and ice, it also causes severe rust damage to vehicles, degrades the road surface, corrodes bridges, and may harm roadside vegetation.

ODOT has made a commitment to not use road salt and will only select products that are less likely to impact vehicles, the road surface, and the environment. The products used by ODOT are effective to help provide safe roadway travel conditions and are cost effective to use.

Um, I think you are talking about "studded" tires, not "snow" tires. I have snow tires; they are not studded and don't damage the road.

I sure would love a street cleaner to start hitting I5 about now... :(
