OT The Government Has No Plan for Reuniting the Immigrant Families It Is Tearing Apart

I don't think dumb is the appropriate word, but whatever.

@MarAzul is a bit harsh, but he's not too far from the truth.

A person better know the laws of the country they are entering, legal or not, especially if they are taking their family along.

Otherwise, you are putting your self and your family in a potentially perilous situation.

Then perhaps they should fix the friggin place.
Pilgrims didn't stay in England or the Netherlands and fix their countries..they split for the New World and promise of a better life free of persecution..

This assumes they are not fleeing or being forced out of their homelands.

Seeking asylum isn't a crime.

None of the detained and separated children, or their parents, sought asylum at any of the numerous border entry points designed for this purpose.

Not a single one, ever.

The few hundred that have been cared for while their parents or more often unrelated child-traffickers certainly could not be sent to jail with the adults, nor can they be dumped on America's streets uncared for.

Dems pols are disgusting and vile human/child traffickers by their refusal to provide adequate border security and for ignoring the weak laws they themselves wrote and voted in.

They can fix everything with a simple vote to provide adequate border security. It takes about an hour, and is WHAT THEY GET PAID TO DO.

You still better know the laws of the land.
like I said..many of .these folks don't have access for the most part to legal information or counsel before fleeing for their lives..also language obstacles..easy to say from an easy chair here at home. Granted there will be some who scam the system knowingly...they however are not refugees trying to survive and make a better life from circumstances beyond their control...having control of one's circumstance is a luxury we enjoy ...some do not

Through the Eyes's of an Immigrant Child

The Ellis Island Experience
64619_1.jpg

Millions of people traveled to a new land with the hope that their future would be bright and prosperous. They were full of hope and excitement as they entered America through Ellis Island. Many of these immigrants were children. Many of them were young, scared, and unaware of what this new land would offer for them. This is Ellis Island from a child's perspective.

----
Getting to America was more than just getting off the boat. Families were rushed through health inspection stations and checked for many diseases and lice. Children who did not pass health inspections were taken to the hospital on Ellis Island, and were separated from their parents. Parents could only visit their children during set visiting hours, and sometimes even then it was impossible for children to see their parents.

-----

Children were often separted from their family members. Parents and other family members could only see their children during special visiting hours. Sometimes parents could not get to Ellis Island for visiting hours. Other times children were too sick and parents weren't able to see their children after making the journey.

Enough here, you can look it up yourselves...
I do recall the stories of coming through Ellis Island from my own immigrant family stories at get togethers. We younger ones would press the older members for more of the story.

One specific detail stands out bold here, and I just read something that makes me wonder if this is the same Annie? I remember from Grandfather and dad that they had a relative that lived in Jersey City which is where you are when you left Ellis Island. Her name was Annie. The first person proceed at Ellis Island was Annie Moore from Ireland, in 1892. You were from Ireland whether you came from Scotland or Ireland because the boat with steerage Class left from Londonderry Ireland (Ulster) in that day. Time is right, name is right, and it matches the tales. Learn something everyday!

Grandmother and the rest of the children came 2 years after Grandfather and Dad. Those people are the ones with the tales about being long separated from the family.
One of them was so sick from the passage over, she was in the hospital quite some time, way after the rest of the family were already living with Annie and getting ready to come to Oregon City where Grandfather and dad were.

sure they did....Oklahoma and California and the states between them....although as I said...highly doubtful any of them could prove citizenship...other than being Caucasians. The border patrol isn't shaking down white Canadians in the same manner...think they'd separate a family from Toronto from their kids? Highly doubtful.....double standards

Come on river! You don't need shit for ID to cross state boundaries Yesterday or today.

you said they didn't cross state borders.....I added that for most of our history people lacked proof of identity or passport...I'm sure in Hawaii right now a lot of people have their legal papers buried under a lava flow

And there is a process for refugees.

@riverman , I thought @MarAzul and @The Professional Fan were discussing illegal immigrants and their children being separated from their parents.
I never said there wasn't...if you read the thread I mentioned the backlog of amnesty cases and lack of staff to process them....I think this is an important topic and I see a clear double standard in the new Jeff Sessions policy of dealing with it. I also hold highly the ideals this country has stood for since it's formation as a place where displaced people may build new lives....my ancestors did it through conscription into the Union Army fresh off the boat..no red tape...here's a uniform..you are going to fight the Confederacy....not a lot of Irish had researched that little side note when they left the homeland either

Once again it is legal to come and ask for asylum.

Sessions unilaterally overturned court decisions that allowed asylum based on domestic violence and gang violence so people en route, or already with pending claims, now find they won't be granted.

Nothing in law requires taking children away.

Seeing people twist themselves in knots to defend the indefensible because Donald Trump is always right.
Just ask him.

All these pro life, pro family, MRA types. All silent.

Well, you would have to be naive if you didn't think the Trump administration wasn't going to go in that direction.

The Democrats and Republicans didn't fix this problem for years and this is where we are at.

I don't agree with the policy, but that is what we have.

I've complained about it. I even wrote my congressperson several years ago.

Did you do that?
This issue is not several years ago and my congress representative actually went there and stood up for my complaint. I live in a sanctuary state.

conscription into the Union Army from Ellis Island

Check the validity of this statement. The first person process though Elis Island was a woman in 1892, from Ireland of course.
No Union Army then though.

my mistake...let's say...fresh off the boat at the same dock.....my maternal grandmother's family are Lakota ..they were always here

Feelings aside, using the past to make decisions about the present is not my idea of progress.

You guys can buy all the Sears stock you want...not me. Maybe they'll pull a Hail Mary and you'll all be rich.

I just see a huge difference between ignorant and desperate vs dumb. It's the difference of empathy which Marz completely lacks.

fixed this after Marz corrected me..

Sounds like you need to research the topic more.

The reform did not have a lot of impact on decreasing the immigrant population, "Until 2012, there was virtually no movement in Congress to deal with the problem of the 11 million undocumented immigrants living in the United States since the passage of the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986, which granted amnesty to many of the 3.2 million illegal immigrants living in the United States.

The amnesty question came up again during the Obama administration.

Sessions is right to reverse that. Domestic violence? Gang violence? Yeah...no. Sorry.

I'm not disregarding the immigration problem over the years....my posts were concerning the separation of children from families under the current practice instigated by Jeff Sessions...we're probably pulling out of the Human Rights Commission over this issue ...you are correct though...I have not done an extensive or detailed research concerning the history or practice of our southern border laws...I know as well as anyone it's a mess....my posts here are responses, not proposals.
