Maybe her name should be on top of the ticket.

I imagine if she were a Democrat at the top of the ticket, people wouldn't be making the worst kinds of accusations against her and her daughter, and she'd be a rock star media darling.

As I see it, there's two things that might happen:
1) She falls on her face when confronted with questions about economic and foreign policy issues.
2) She holds her own.

Some people suggest #1 is likely to happen, but they don't know anything about her - clearly from the nature of the attacks against her.

If #2 happens, Obama's chances are going to be seriously hurt. From what I've seen and read about her, this is a likely scenario.

I don't know if McCain will hold his own when drilled on why she is even on the ticket. Look at Cindy fumbling around like a fool (first time I recall seeing her like that).

Biden received 5 deferments before being declared medically ineligible for Vietnam

By RANDALL CHASE |Associated Press Writer
1:32 PM EDT, August 31, 2008

DOVER, Del. (AP) _ Democratic vice presidential nominee Joe Biden received five student draft deferments during the Vietnam War, the same number of deferments received by Vice President Dick Cheney, and later was disqualified from service because of asthma as a teenager.

Officials with Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama's campaign released Biden's Selective Service records at the request of The Associated Press. Less detailed records were available from a National Archives facility in Philadelphia.

According to the documents, Biden, 65, received several deferments while he was an undergraduate at the University of Delaware and later as a law student at Syracuse University. A month after undergoing a physical exam in April 1968, Biden received a Selective Service classification of 1-Y, meaning he was available for service only in the event of national emergency.

"As a result of a physical exam on April 5, 1968, Joe Biden was classified 1-Y and disqualified from service because of asthma as a teenager," said David Wade, a campaign spokesman.

In "Promises to Keep," a memoir that was published last year and became an instant best-seller after he was tapped as Obama's running mate, Biden never mentions his asthma, recounting an active childhood, work as a lifeguard and football exploits in high school.

The Obama campaign pointed to media interviews from 1987, when Biden was making his first bid for the presidency, that mention his asthma.

Military service and questions about which presidential ticket would be stronger on national security are intertwined in the presidential race. Republican John McCain, a former Navy pilot who spent 5½ years in a Vietnamese prison, has argued that he has stronger background to be commander in chief. Democratic nominee Barack Obama counters that McCain would continue a wrong-headed foreign policy from the Bush administration.

Biden has had extensive experience with national security issues in the Senate. McCain's running mate, Sarah Palin, has been Alaska governor for two years and before that was a small-town mayor.

Biden's five student deferments equal the number given to Vice President Dick Cheney, who has been quoted as saying he had "other priorities" than military service in the 1960s.

According to records AP obtained from the National Archives, Biden registered Feb. 15, 1961, with the Selective Service, when he was an 18-year-old student at Archmere Academy in Wilmington. The archives documents do not include any information about his classification or physical exam.

Documents provided by the Obama campaign indicate Biden received a classification questionnaire in October 1963, when he was enrolled at the University of Delaware, and received his first 2-S student deferment a month later. Additional deferments were granted in roughly 12-month intervals, the last coming in January 1968, shortly before he graduated from law school at Syracuse University.

Then in April 1968, when he was 25, Biden was disqualified from service due to asthma.

I didn't know you skipped the last two elections.

Why do you think Democrats are calling for Barack to fight back? Because of how their candidates got manipulated and out maneuvered two times in a row.

Why did Barack select someone like Joe Biden who isn't afraid to fight back? Maybe part of it is the experience factor, the other part of it the fact that he will fight back against the Republican attack machine.

The second comeback of choice: turn anything into a partisan attack. Nothing in my post calls out one party over another--or even necessarily refers to politics. Nice going, though.

If Palin becomes President, what is her husband called? The First Man? The First Gentleman? Anybody know?

He's the "First Dude" in Alaska.

Ah yes, the comeback of choice: "We're still better than them." I didn't know you had already gone into politics.

My point is Republicans had better, smarter, and well executed strategy than the Democrats in 2000 and 2004.

That's not true?

To rebut rumors, Palin says daughter, 17, pregnant
Mon Sep 1, 2008 1:07pm EDT

By Steve Holland

ST. PAUL (Reuters) - The 17-year-old daughter of Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin is pregnant, Palin said on Monday in an announcement intended to knock down rumors by liberal bloggers that Palin faked her own pregnancy to cover up for her child.

Bristol Palin, one of Alaska Gov. Palin's five children with her husband, Todd, is about five months pregnant and is going to keep the child and marry the father, the Palins said in a statement released by the campaign of Republican presidential candidate John McCain.

Bristol Palin made the decision on her own to keep the baby, McCain aides said.

"We have been blessed with five wonderful children who we love with all our heart and mean everything to us," the Palins' statement said.

"Our beautiful daughter Bristol came to us with news that as parents we knew would make her grow up faster than we had ever planned. As Bristol faces the responsibilities of adulthood, she knows she has our unconditional love and support," the Palins said.

The Palins asked the news media to respect the young couple's privacy.

"Bristol and the young man she will marry are going to realize very quickly the difficulties of raising a child, which is why they will have the love and support of our entire family. We ask the media, respect our daughter and Levi's privacy as has always been the tradition of children of candidates," the statement concluded.

MCCAIN KNEW

Senior McCain campaign officials said McCain knew of the daughter's pregnancy when he selected Palin last week as his vice presidential running mate, deciding that it did not disqualify the 44-year-old governor in any way.

In the short period since she was announced last Friday, Palin has helped to energize the Republican Party's conservative base, giving the McCain camp fresh energy going into the campaign for the November 4 election against Democrat Barack Obama.

McCain officials said the news of the daughter's pregnancy was being released to rebut what one aide called "mud-slinging and lies" circulating on liberal blog sites.

According to these rumors, Sarah Palin had faked a pregnancy and pretended to have given birth in May to her fifth child, a son named Trig who has Down syndrome. The rumor was that Trig was actually Bristol Palin's child and that Sarah Palin was the grandmother.

A senior McCain campaign official said the McCain camp was appalled that these rumors had not only been spread around liberal blog sites and partisan Democrats, but also were the subject of heightened interest from mainstream news media.

"The despicable rumors that have been spread by liberal blogs, some even with Barack Obama's name in them, is a real anchor around the Democratic ticket, pulling them down in the mud in a way that certainly juxtaposes themselves against their 'campaign of change,'" a senior aide said.

(CNN) – Sarah Palin, who announced on Monday that her 17-year-old daughter is pregnant, indicated during her run for Alaska governor that she was a firm supporter of abstinence-only education in schools.

In a 2006 Eagle Forum questionnaire, Palin indicated that she supported funding abstinence-until-marriage education programs instead of teaching sex-education programs.

"Explicit sex-ed programs will not find my support," Palin wrote in the conservative group’s questionnaire.

I feel bad for the daughter though. As if being 17 and pregnant with a Bible Belt mother wasn't enough, now mom's telling the world about it and you're all over the news.

Well, it is probably less of a blow if the mother tells the world about it than if it's kept secret and some paparatzi finds out about it and exposes it.

But yea, either way with your mom being a VP candidate, you lose privacy and security.

Did I already say "Fuck DailyKOS?"

Sure but it would have been a lot easier if the mother decided that its not in the best interest of her daughter to take the VP job. She is all about family right? Shes got a new born autistic child, her daughter has a child on the way, plus shes got several other children, one of whom is going to war soon. Obviously it would be hard to pass up the VP job- big step up from being the no-name Alaskan governor. I don't get why McCain would pick her knowing that the daughter was knocked up when Palin is supposed to be so anti-pre-marital sex and pro Christian beliefs.

I have no idea what went into the decision making process when choosing the VP nor if McCain actually knew of this or not (he claims he did). Whatever happened I feel horrible for Palin's daughter. Would never wish that upon anyone.

Would it be OK for the right wing blogosphere to lie about Obama's wife and kids?

In Wasilla, Pregnancy Was No Secret

So his name is Levi.

That's about the only thing that I didn't know about Bristol Palin's pregnancy. The rest of the details I picked up almost without trying, while talking about other things with townsfolk — some who know the governor and her family well, some who don't. It was, more or less, an open secret. And everyone was saying the same thing: the governor's 17-year-old daughter is pregnant, the father is her boyfriend, and it's really nobody's business beyond that.

I happen to agree.

Calling Andrew Sullivan a "conservative" is as accurate as your typical Andrew Sullivan missive.

I wouldn't object if Sarah Palin bludgeoned that fucker and those tools on KOS to death with this fish:
