With all the current discussions regarding how to handle the terrorist threats and the radicalization of home-grown Muslim terrorists I think it needs to be pointed out that here in America we tend to have Muslims that love our country and have adapted our core values. This, according to a news report I was watching last night, is in great part due to local Muslims being upwardly mobil, living in a country that does not mistreat them and that they live in a country where a core value is the right to worship as one wishes.
There are an estimated 5-12 million Muslims in America, even the low number is higher than the total number in France, Germany or Belgium. And we have had a few radicalized terrorists here (most fail but a few have succeeded) but not nearly as many as in France, where they have a much higher likelihood of being poor. Also, in Europe there are more tight knit communities of Muslims where there are virtually no westerners (non-Muslims) allowed in, and all media input are from IS and other Islamic media sources. There are a few of these communities in America, like in Michigan. But for the most part here, even in Muslim communities, they are interspersed with non-Muslims and continuously have to interact with Westerners and are inundated with western media.
I would prefer that the Muslim religion would poof out of existence, but that's just not possible, just like we can't poof guns out of our society. So if we can't poof it away, then it becomes important to integrate, accept and welcome Muslims and make sure they feel that they are a part of our society and not marginalized. Make sure the situations are severely limited that provide the right backdrop for radicalization.
