Politics The Kamala Harris Thread

@Road Ratt I want to give you some information that may help you understand why the government works the way it does. Look at the data, it's pretty clear there is a rural skew that benefits republicans and by default their priorities because of the way the system works.
  • 16 of the most populous states represent 68% of the US population, but they control only 32% of the senate.
  • 34 of the least populous states represent 32% of the the US population, but they control 68% of the senate.
  • A senator from California represents 68 times as many people as a senator from the least populous state, Wyoming, yet both states have the same number of senators apportioned to them.
A state such as Wyoming skews much more heavily white, conservative, and rural. States like these have an outsized influence on national priorities and national politics, it makes no sense. It's not that American's are ignorant, or blind, or anything else. It's that a minority of the population has a way outsized influence and control on our politics, and as such policies that the majority want just are not implemented.

Basically up until right now, Republicans got what they wanted, and Democratic priorities such as minimum wage, the stimulus package, or whatever else that may actually help Americans, are snuffed out by the minority party. This was the case even though they represented a minority of Americans. Even a cursory bit of research will show you that without a shadow of a doubt that Democrats favor these priorities. You can prove it based on their voting records. Because Republicans vote pretty much unanimously against these types of policies though, especially in the Senate, they fail. To state Democrats and Republicans are both selling out the country is an incorrect interpretation of the events when the data proves it otherwise.

There is overwhelming evidence that Democrats are opposed to privatized prisons with slave labor, and Republicans favor them. And again, as for minimum wage the last time it was raised was in 2009 when Democrats had a trifecta in control of all three branches of government, and Republicans have unanimously voted against it each time sense. The evidence clearly and overwhelming states you are either misunderstanding, misconstruing, or willfully misleading others to try and make an argument that both parties are the same when that is objectively false. Now mind you when I am saying 'Republican' or 'Democrat' I am talking about politicians, not ordinary citizenry necessarily just to be clear.

Another way of measuring things is the number of criminal indictments by party for the most recent past administrations from 1970 to 2017. I can't find accurate data for this beyond 2017, but keep in mind from 2017-2020 this was a Republican administration.

Federal level criminal indictments by administration from 1970-2017:

Republicans - 124
Democrats - 3

Mind you this doesn't include the indictments from the Trump administration, we'll have to wait and see how many his administration ends up with, but it's already well on its way to 100 with some of the data I have seen. To state the parties are the same is just objectively false, one party is full of crooks, liars, and cronies, and the other isn't, it's really just that simple.

Hey I was going to make this thread!

sign-it-anyway-joe-biden-kamala-758x421.jpg

Aside from the overt dog whistle racism and sexism laden within this meme, even if this were true, this is still a better setup than having Trump as president. Like what cockamamie crap were the creators of this meme thinking? "If only people really knew it is Kamalamala that is running the show, then they would vote for Trump." -- Um no, I would still vote the way I did, every time.

He was accepting bribes while Vice President.
That is a reverse contribution, indeed. He was that politician that once you saw him, you knew he was from the dark side. A perfect match for Nixon.

loyalty and convictions are real things...they often are arrived at by considering real events, facts and information....like a vote or choice of entertainment....being loyal to a cause or adamant against something you feel is dangerously wrong does not make you blind or dealing in unrealistic thoughts and actions....those are our choices...we're very real whether we see the same outcome or differ. I say this without taking a political side or bias...we are our own filters of truth and that in my view is something to respect ..I respect the response to Jan 6th by the current administration
Riv. That is true. However, there is a percentage of population that needs someone else to make decisions for them such as those who stormed the Capitol building. Those that did not commit to criminal actions, used common sense and somehow gathered self respect, eventually realizing it was their own actions that demonstrated their filter of truth. They would not vote for Trump (again).

Yes, I have already seen the statistics you posted in a video I have watched before.

The problem for me is. Bill Clinton helped to privatize prisons and then signed a bill to lengthen prison sentences so prisoners would spend more time in jail. So, as I see it, Bill directly helped cause some of today's problems with incarceration of colored people in America.

Democrats, as of Bill Clinton, showed America that they were "tough on crime", same as a republican. They showed us they were no longer opposed to wars or killing as Bill Clinton killed hundreds of thousands of Iraqis through the sanctions his predecessor Bush Sr. started. As democrats were showing us how much like the republicans they can be, they actually show us that there is very little difference between the two parties anymore. The democrats have become republican in their foreign agendas, fine with killing for corporations. At home democrats are still similar to democrats but still work for corporations in their states to screw over America. The governors of California and New York are two great examples.

Bill Clinton also brought down The Glass–Steagall act. The act that was literally keeping wall street from giving us another crash like the one that lead to the Great Depression. This was a massive help to our wealthiest Americans. Democrats show us they are willing to work with wall street over main street, just like republicans.

Edit: New York has slave labor in their prisons. So democrats seem just fine with it to me. (I bet if we looked it up we could see how many states, blue and red, that have slave labor in their prisons.)

To state the parties are the same is just objectively false, one party is full of crooks, liars, and cronies, and the other isn't, it's really just that simple.

The two parties both work directly for wall street over main street. This is the direct cause of the wealth inequality here in America. Everything I watch shows this to be true. Ronald Reagan broke open the dam for corporations and the ultra wealthy, every president beyond him has helped to keep that dam open.

As I see it, both parties own America's mess.

Or maybe the democrats are just better at getting away with corruption? Naaaah. The uber rich would never conspire like that.

What would convince you that there are differences? Because you can always invent a conspiracy that explains away numbers and facts. That's what QAnon is based on. (I'm not accusing you of being part of QAnon, to be clear, I'm pointing out an extremely popular movement right now that's based on inventing theories that explain what they want or expect to see, no matter what actually happens.)

We are told, by someone who probably does not know most of us, that anyone who participates in politics is illogical and a blind brand loyalist.

Is it brand loyalty or experience?

Trivial example, I know from experience that New Balance and Reebok sneakers generally fit me and that Adidas and Nike never do. So when I go to buy sneakers I try on New Balance and Reebok. Not because their materials are better or they treat workforce better, probably they don't, not because of blind brand loyalty but due to experience that they are more likely to fit.

If I read a book I like, I might seek other books by that author, which I would not do if book was lousy. Pre Covid I returned to restaurants with good food and service, not those with bad.

Probably no one would disagree with any of this. So why is public life different?

Fact, the US has one of the worst Corona virus responses in the world. Does anyone aside from trueborn Trumpers think it might have made a difference having a president who listened to scientists instead of the My Pillow guy and Fox commentators? Who did not make refusing to wear masks and socially distance a loyalty test? Who did not so decimate the CDC that they literally have no idea how much vaccine is available, let alone a plan for national distribution?

Of the 20-odd (and some were odd) Democratic presidential candidates, Biden was pretty low on my preference. My top three choices were Warren, Castro, Harris. Biden is a flawed human being. So is Kamala Harris, Elizabeth Warren, Barack Obama, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. It's the human condition. But I can't draw an equal sign between a flawed human being with whom I have differences, sometimes serious ones, and an utterly corrupt, incompetent, pathological liar who has never cared for anything but his ego and his wealth, uses the presidency to enrich himself, and sends a mob of white supremacists to storm the Capitol.

It strikes me as an excuse to do exactly nothing, just sit back and say it makes no difference, they are all corrupt so go get stoned or something.

And also a case of privilege.

Some people might have the privilege of figuring it doesn't matter if a president of the United States calls Nazis very fine people and his supporters wear Camp Auschwitz sweatshirts. I don't have that luxury. Some people might have the privilege of figuring there is no difference between a president issuing an executive order allowing all function of Health and Human Services to discriminate based on sexual orientation and gender identity and a president issuing an executive order prohibiting discrimination against LGBTQ people. I don't have that luxury. As an older white woman I suppose I have the luxury of saying it doesn't affect me whether or not a president thinks Black lives matter, but I happen to believe Black lives do matter.

The graphic showing where people like Vice President Harris would have been at various points in this country's history does a great job of making the point. Those things did not change because someone sat back and said they are all corrupt, it doesn't matter if Lincoln or Douglas gets elected, ladies, go back to the kitchen, don't fight for suffrage because all politicians are lousy. They changed because people fought like holy fucking hell to change them.

The way we hold their feet to the fire, metaphorically of course, is by staying active and engaged. Not by saying I've got mine, so screw politics, they are all corrupt. I don't "got mine". And a lot of others "got" less.

An excuse for one's own conduct, but also an attempt to convince others that they should do the same.

Alternatively, it's often a way to justify voting for the greater of two evils.

what an excellent "mike drop" post! respect!

Kamala Has Historically Low Support In Newest Data.

I don't see democrats ever being able to run her for president with this low of support.

No, Kamala Harris Is Not Headed To The Supreme Court.
