Fourteen years ago I switched from registered Democrat to registered Independent. This morning I finally found a reason to re-register as a Democrat. Ever since 2016 I've searched high and low for just one word to describe Republicans in general and MAGA in particular. I can't believe I missed the most obvious. Tim Walz nailed it, and Kamala Harris has made it main stream. Republicans and MAGA are just plain f**king WEIRD! Like some DC comics American bizzarro world with no basis in reality. Tim Walz was an outstanding pick and will make an outstanding president when Kamala's eight years are up. Finally, finally, finally the Democrats deliberately did something right.
I switched to independent in 2015 or 16 and just registered democrat again this campaign cycle. Finally I can vote FOR someone again. I actually donated to this campaign and I haven't done that since Obama's first term

Honestly if Harris and Walz run on a platform of “hey, we’re just normal adults who aren’t fucking creepy about several things” they’ll eventually win in a landslide. How do you run counter to a campaign that doubles down on “meanwhile in the real world” disregard for fascism. I don’t think they’re underestimating trump but they’re exuding the confidence of an adult entering the room.

The big magic trick would be if Harris starts pulling right-center people away from voting republican by appealing to them as reasonable people who know when something doesn’t smell right. Because I bet that for every Mags out there who went full on, there’s two reasonable republicans who might not like that Harris is a…….. democrat, but at least she’s a grown adult.

Olivia Troye, former aide to Mike Pence, already organized a roundtable with Harris and Republican women.

I think there are a lot of reasonable Republicans who will make the right choice.

I may resemble that description

During an interview with the Star Tribune Walz said they named their daughter Hope because they had spent seven years undergoing fertility treatments before Gwen found out she was pregnant. Hope was born in 2001, followed by Gus in 2006.

Court transcript sheds new light on Walz’s DUI arrest
Walz had a blood alcohol concentration of .128 at the time of the incident, according to a court transcript.

Walz was working as a teacher in Alliance, Neb., his home state, when he was pulled over Sept. 23, 1995 for going 96 mph in a 55-mph zone.

“A strong odor of alcoholic beverage was detected emitting from Mr. Walz[‘s] breath and person,” says a Nebraska state trooper’s report on the incident.

Walz submitted to and failed both a field sobriety test and a preliminary breath test, according to the report. He was then transported to Chadron Hospital for a blood test before being booked into the Dawes County Jail.

Lame.

Drunk driving is never OK. 11,000ish people die per year from it.

That sucks.

Did Harris know this before she picked him?

Tim Walz is basically the poster child for the "anyone can grow up to be president" mantra. No rich family. No high-powered executive job. No built-in advantages of any kind (other than being a white guy). Son of a veteran and teacher who grew up to be the same himself, and didn't get into politics until after he was 40. Pretty crazy to go from social studies teacher to VP candidate within less than 20 years.

You utterly nailed it.....other than you failed to point out that Walz is EXACTLY what J.D. Vance has been pretending to be since he graduated from his elite college.......the real deal versus the poseur......Walz is the perfect counterpoint to Vance.
