The stats from NBA.com's power rankings. We're 1st in their rankings but just 5th according to this stat.

The greatest power ranking is record. So regardless of how many this or that which could explain why we won't stay at this level means shit to me.

There have been so many games where we win in all sorts of ways. They can keep thinking we will fall until we go far in the playoffs.

This is our year!

It's not "they" it's an objective stat.
We were just 6th a week ago IIRC, we should keep climbing.

I think it's because we (or at least some of us) enjoy them even if they don't matter a hill of beans. If the Blazers are ranked high, it's fun to enjoy kind words being said about the team we support. If the rankings don't match up to our own opinions of how good the team is, it's fun to get ourselves worked up into a lather about it. In short, we're Blazermaniacs and we like basking in the reflected glow of our team's achievements.

I'm fine with people posting them. I like reading good press about us. It's fun. It just seems odd to see Look, so and so has us #1 or #2, while at the same time reading these things don't matter, doesn't matter what anyone says about us. When it does clearly matter. Not in any real sort of playoff clinching way, obviously. If the respect or lack of respect didn't matter so much to people, then it wouldn't be talked about.

Currently, the betting site has Portland @ 4.2% chance at becoming the NBA champs, reaching the playoffs 98.8%, winning the division 27.9%, 1 seed @ 12.6% chance.

These are true numbers. And honestly, they say OKC, Indiana, Miami and SAS all have better odds than us. I'm fine with that. It's better to not have it easy.

I'm definitely one of the people who say "they don't mean shit," and I never really go looking for them. I think it's much more interesting to hear what some of the pundits have to say though. Power rankings are just filler. A way to get people to click. Nothing more.
