The oFFicAL "IF THE PLAYOFFS WERE TODAY" tHreAD

Welcome to our community

Be a part of something great, join today!

It's been like this since the 90s. The Western Conference teams simply have better owners and front offices. Year after year, the WC goes a legitimate 4-6 teams deep while the EC has perhaps one or two contenders. We beat the crap out of each other in the playoffs while the contenders in the East play soup cans the first couple of rounds. When the finals come around, the teams from the East are pretty fresh. The ones from the West are beaten to hell.

For all intents and purposes, Memphis geographically should be in the East. I bet they're pissed.

That's funny, I didn't even think about their geography in relation to that. At least one and maybe two very deserving teams in the west get left out this year, could even be us, while the east gears up for what Raptors/Bobcats? Pitiful. That's a lot of revenue for a team to lose out on, if I was that owner I would be furious.

If the playoffs were today, the Blazers would have the 5th seed but they would have home court advantage in their first round series against Clippers. That would be a great series.

If the playoffs were today, Toronto and Charlotte would face each other in the least interesting playoff matchup in modern times.

If the playoffs were today, Indiana would face Brooklyn in what would be a very interesting first round matchup.

If the playoffs were today, Memphis and New York wouldn't be participating.

speak for yourself on the toronto/charlotte series. I love watching those teams play

there is no one in the east farther west though is there? You could make a similar case for minnesota

But neither team has a chance of winning it all so why does it matter?

If you're only watching basketball to see the championship contenders why are you a blazers fan? Even though they'll likely be knocked out in the second round it's not a guarantee. upsets are rare in the nba playoffs due to format but Charlotte has a nice team put together (as far as the east goes anyways.) Al Jefferson is having a career year, Kemba Walker is one of the best young PGs in the league and guys like MKG and Biyombo give them some good defense & toughness.

Because like I've posted 164 times already on here that SOME of us love the GAME of basketball NOT just the Blazers. I DVR and watch EVERY sinlge playoff game EVERY year.

I'd give you props on this post rook, but you are too new!

I watch the Blazers because I'm a Blazers fan. 25 years. I love the NBA and watched every series last year. I'll watch the Toronto/Charlotte series. I just think it would be the least interesting of the bunch.

I love the Blazers. I hate the NBA. I think it's the worst brand of basketball. Tons of star treatment, bias, and marketing. The quality of basketball is piss poor. We have the best players in the world, but the game itself is corrupted by corporate greed.

Tinfoil hat much?

i doubt there will be much star treatment, bias or marketing for the toronto/charlotte series.

Also, I will say Toronto could give Miami or Indy a run for their money. I just think Charlotte/Denver would be the least interesting of the matchups if it happens.

In the spirit of the thread, it would be Toronto/Brooklyn if the playoffs started today. I'd be very interested in that series. Brooklyn has championship level talent and I have a home in NY so they're a bit of a home team for me.

No they don't. If they were all 3 years younger then sure. Father time catches up to everyone eventually. TOR would win that series IMO.

I just think they could turn it on in the playoffs. They're 2-0 against Miami, I think.

And ladies and gentlemen, we are back in the third seed! Only 1.5 games behind the 2 seed and 3 games behind the #1 seed.

OKC 43-15
SA 41-16
Portland 40-18

Go Blazers!!

Where do we want to finish? Who do we want to play. I don't want anything to do with PHX and Houston.

The obvious answer has to be Dallas, right? And PHX has not looked THAT great lately but they matchup really well with us.

I'd steer clear of HOU and GS. Howard would eat us alive, and Beverly has owned Dame. And that GS defense bugs me (moreso than Steph-- I think Nic can shut him down or at least neutralize him). Oddly enough, people forget how good their D has become

I agree. Let's get DAL or PHX. No HOU or GS. LAC I would rather not play but I would much rather play them then either HOU or GS.

I actually think they could beat GS if they had to play them though.

The only team that truly terrifies me in the West is Houston. In a playoff series, I just think what the refs will allow Howard to get away with in the post and the protection they'll offer to Harden will just be too much to overcome. Of course, I also fear OKC, but I think we have the ability to beat them.

Everyone else, I think we're the better team.

I fear the clippers. CP3 and Doc in the final minutes of ball games will get calls. That and the way CP3 controls a ball game. Hate him, but the dude is good. Plus they just keep adding players. Our bench is getting better, but their's is too damn deep.

In a seven game series, I think we could take Dallas or Golden State.

Phoenix scares me if they have Dragic and Bledsoe. When does Bledsoe come back?

I want nothing to do with Houston. Nothing at all. That matchup would be a disaster for us.

Sad but true. But what he also does very well is dribble in traffic, then hesitates so the defender runs into him. He really knows how to create space so his lack of height is seldom a factor. That and his change of speed.

I used to really like Paul.... but he has just become such a whiny piece of shit. I watched him last night and there was a point in the game where Patrick Beverly was driving and he turned and bumped Paul. Dude went down like he was shot, and Beverly was called for the offensive foul. At the other end of the floor Paul was standing next to Beverly just laughing because he knew he had pulled one over on him. It's sad what basketball has become with guys like Paul and Harden.
