The OFFICAL Welcome to Portland, Robin Lopez thread!

Lopez is younger than Asik and is better than Asik at just about everything except rebounding. An 18.9 PER vs. Asik's 14.9. Our biggest weakness (help side defense) has been addressed.

I like Asik too, but those that think he's going to catapult us into a contender are off their rocker. Lopez, is just as good or better, younger and cheaper.

So, next years Starting (as of now)

Lillard
Wes
Batum
Aldridge
Lopez

Bench:
T-Rob, CJ, Leonard, Withey, Pavlovic, Claver, Barton, Crabbe, ? (FA PF)

Looks like a playoff team to me.

I am thinking a 3 is much more of a need now. Robinson, Leonard, Claver, Freeland all 4's

While trades are likely, what isn't is the option of signing a player like Dwight for us. We all know how crappy Oregon is, taxes wise, weather wise and everything. We will have to do it through trades and trades only.

Which makes the acquiring of players on good contracts all the more important as future trade pieces - not seeing the problem here.

I'd rather just trade Aldridge for a great haul, suck and get a top pick next year then run that lineup out there.

It's not bad, but it obviously isn't much more than a .500 team at best

Between Eric Maynor, Thomas Robinson and Robin Lopez, Neil Olshey’s roster-building strategy best described as soup kitchen scrounging

Hard to make fire with nothing but wood.

Not really pointing out any problems, just pointing out that Morey did well by getting Harden and getting capspace, which is valuable to a Texas/big market team. Capspace just isn't valuable for a team like us is all I was pointing out unless we are a sure-fire contender.

People expecting an all-nba player to appear out of thin air are unrealistic. One step at a time.

Its going to be a good battle throughout the year to see who wins the starting Center spot. I have a feeling the Leonard haters are going to be eating a lot crow with their morning coffee.

Like A_am, Leonar_ needs a new spelling

Fucking brilliant.

Robinson and Lopez for virtually nothing

16/8/2 blks per 36 with an 18.9 PER is a solid C

Barring injury we have a chance to be damn good
And this reaction, my fellow S2ers, makes it all worthwhile!

I hope I have to eat a big stinking piece of shit crow! That would only mean our team is more stacked than I ever imagined.

Three-way footnotes: Portland also gets Terrel Harris w/Robin Lopez, pays Lopez's $1.6M trade kicker and sends two second-rounders to SAC
4:40 PM - 4 Jul 2013

We basically traded 6 second rounders in a week. 2 for Crabbe, 2 for TRob, 2 for Lopez. It becomes 8 if you count the two euros.

Either way, awesome move.

I mean, hell, even Mediocre man is positive.

In order for the Blazers to be a serious contender, I think the upgrade is going to have to be at SG or SF (whichever comes first). I think Wes and Batum together just isn't enough. Both are inconsistent role player types.

We can trade our pick until we give that one to Charlotte
Unless we trade Aldridge for projects and picks, we are definitely giving them our first rounder next season.

Im happy just as much as anyone else here, but it still seems to me like we are doing this to appease Aldridge and nothing suggests to me he will stay. Then again Lopez is still fairly young as is all our other players, so I guess I cannot complain much.

I think Olshey is trying to improve the team, and if a deal for LMA came up that improved the team, then he'd make that move. He's not going to make a move to make the team worse, so people should probably get that idea out of their heads. Lopez also wasn't brought in to "appease" LMA; he was brought in because he's an actual center who had a very solid year.

I don't understand how people don't like this. It's asset acquisition and we picked up a center that would have cost more if he were a FA this year. We're not done. Aside from a small signing or two, we may be done for a bit. But I expect NO will continue to maneuver his assets into upgrades. I'd say he's done a nice job thus far.

I don't understand it either... Even with no other moves by N.O. (and it looks like more to come) the proposed roster for next season could be a sixth seed or better with a little luck. The incessant whining by a few posters is beyond ridiculous. Give me more wins and a fun team to watch. No thank you to lottery luck gambles.

I really am liking this team right now. Love our picks, love the cheap/free acquisitions, love the balance, this team still needs some components, but if they can stay healthy and mesh well together, no reason this team can't be a second round team this coming season.

the back court and frontline are shored up with decent talents, but they'll need to add a decent athletic wing before I agree they're going to the playoffs.

Lopez at 5+Mil per for the next 2 seasons is another solid addition. So how much $ room do they've left to land that wing?

STOMP

Exactly right. These may not be blockbuster deals, but Olshey is picking up some quality players for almost free. Very impressive.

I starting to get afraid that the deal will fall apart once they realize we don't have that many second rounder.

Brian said with this move, we have 4.5 mil left in cap and 2.5 min mle.

technically we have one every year because there is no restriction like 1st round picks. Trade them every year

I'm kind of wondering where these draft picks are coming from as well.

From this:

http://basketball.realgm.com/nba/draft/future_drafts/detailed

We own Minny's 2015 second round pick and NYKs 2016 2nd round pick. However, we owe our 2014 2nd rounder to Denver. Assuming we are trading both the Minny and NYK pick, does that mean we won't have any 2nd rounders for the next 5 years?
