What I like about Gallo and what I don't:

Hey, but at least it's an 22 mil expiring.

Giving up a 1st for him is crazy to me tho...

Probably the same as when he made the trade. He knew what Kawhi was going to sign.

yeah, it's pretty funny. When somebody tweets the most recent news about a team, it seems for some the assumption is that's the first the team is hearing about it too. That 2 + 1 contract was almost certainly agreed to the night the Clips traded for PG13

In Nerd News, Magic: the Gathering has created a Magic card in honor of Reuben Patterson:

he's not that good and he sure as hell isn't good enough to overlook the classless move he's apparently considering' If he reneges, on his agreement, I want him nowhere near the Blazers

Really? Classless? Bullshit.

The NBA ships players wherever the hell they want to. They make sure to pay players only their guaranteed money and cut them before their contracts are guaranteed.

NBA teams have bidding wars. Apparently one is going on for one of the Morris Twins.

it's not bullshit

yeah, NBA teams trade players. That's been true since the league started. Big fucking deal. The players know that when they sign contracts. It's not some loophole that teams slip into a contract when the lights are out and the player's back is turned. It's up-front, explicit, and understood

I know it seems old-fashioned, but a person's word should still mean something. The Spurs and Morris reached an agreement. The Spurs agreed to create the flexibility to give Morris 10M/year. Morris agreed to sign the deal. The Spurs then made the move to create the room by trading away a player. And Morris apparently is considering breaking his word, and that's exactly what he's doing, for more money.

he hadn't signed so he can do it...if he wants. Tough shit Spurs. But as I said and I'll repeat it: I wouldn't want Morris in a Blazer uniform because of how I'd view his character after this news

Do you feel the same way about Neil, he told Gordon that he wouldn’t trade him and turned around and went back on his word. It is definitely telling about someone’s priorities when they make choices like this. I would say they all have the same priority...$. Morris has a limited window to make $ so he is getting what he can. NO wanted to make the team better because that’s what he is paid to do. Neither is better or worse I think people view them very differently though.

there you go

by the way, I'm not an Olshey fan, at all, so it's fine if I have another reason to dislike him and it fits with the snake-oil view I have of him

I guess it's a tough-shit world. It's tough-shit for the Spurs that they went after a player that they needed to make a move in order to sign him and took the player's word in good faith. And it's tough-shit for Eric Gordon that he didn't put a no-trade clause in his contract

I want to say that my view is informed by spending 35 years as a self-employed contractor: construction, remodeling, carpentry. I deal in contracts and verbal agreements all the time; as in dozens and dozens, sometimes in a a single year. I've never stiffed anybody on a verbal agreement and I've never gamed a contract. I have been stiffed on agreements several times and I've never dealt with those people again, whether they were customers or other contractors. So it's not like I'm coming at this from some idealistic perspective. I've lived the real world consequences of broken words

KD ready to play in January? Cris Carter says it's so.

That would be the dumbest possible thing they could do.

Rush KD back from an Achilles.

That’s a Knicks move.

Don’t. Be. The. Knicks.

If he is even *remotely* close to healthy — they should sit him until the all-star break — at least, in my opinion.

Same thing I hope we do with Nurk.

None of this “play your way” into shape B.S.

Practice. Get comfortable. Knock the rust off. Build trust in your body. Get used to the impact. Then integrate yourself back into games.

I think there’s a difference between a broken leg and a torn Achilles though. Once Nurks bone is healed, he’ll be good to go, as I don’t believe there was any ligament damage. KDs recovery should be more conservative.

I’ve been in business significantly less time then you...

And I know people’s words don’t mean jackshit. Put the pen to paper.

This is pretty mind boggling for me since we’re both connected to Real Estate development.

I am part of / work with the largest Real Estate developers on the West Coast.

If you wanted a verbal or handshake agreement with us — you’d get laughed off.

Then again, your deal size could be somewhat smaller than ours.

— and then the bold —

Sounds like you learned your lesson but didn’t implement the necessary changes.

So it does seem like an idealistic perspective.

FWIW

I’d have no issue with him reneging on his “handshake” agreement due to new, unforeseen circumstances.

Maybe it’s because is in the real estate development business — nothing is certain until the ink is dry.

(And even then you have people try and weasel their way out through certain “provisions”.)

How Will the Trail Blazers Build for the Future?

The Portland Trail Blazers will enter the 2019-20 season with a fresh rotation, shiny new players in Hassan Whiteside and Kent Bazemore, and fresh hopes of challenging in the 2020 NBA Playoffs. Their latest evolution has been greeted with optimism in most quarters. If the Blazer’s Edge Mailbag is any indication, the predictable question of how good they’ll be is going to be accompanied by two more: for how long, and what’s next? Today’s trio of questions provide a representative sample. Let’s dig in!.......

I think there’s a difference between a broken leg and a torn Achilles though. Once Nurks bone is healed, he’ll be good to go, as I don’t believe there was any ligament damage. KDs recovery should be more conservative.

So you think I’m being overly conservative with Nurk?

I’m not entirely sure where you disagree so just asking for clarification.

But that’s precisely why I think the Nets would be stupid as hell if they rush KD back. A torn Achilles isn’t a broken leg and *no player* has been the same after an Achilles... much less after rushing them back from the Achilles injury.

I can see your point with Nurk — but I lean towards being cautious with a 7 footer who weighs that much. I also think, whether people admit it or not, there is a lot of mental issues that need to be overcome. I also don’t want Nurk pushing himself in a game before his conditioning, flexibility and mobility are superior to where they were before the injury.

Like I said — I am admittedly being overly cautious with Nurk — so I’m not hellbent on him sitting out that long, but it is just what I would do.

I now it's been reported a such, but I'm kinda confused as to what moving on from Bertans has to do with signing Morris. They traded Bertans for DeMarre Carroll in a S&T. Is it just that they would have instead used the MLE on Carroll and kept Bertans? They swapped him for Carroll, and now still have the full MLE to use elsewhere. I get being annoyed at him backing out, but the Bertans part of it seems meh to me.

Amar'e Stoudemire told MSG Network on Tuesday that he can bring needed leadership to young NBA teams and still "has a lot of game left" as he attempts to return to the league.

Stoudemire, 36, appearing on MSG Network's "MSG 150," was asked what kind of pitch he is making to NBA teams.

"A lot of the teams have a lot of young players and a lot of players that can learn how to train, how to become professionals and how to become great basketball players. And leadership goes a long way with teams in order to get from a playoff team to a contending championship team," he said. "From that standpoint, I have a lot to offer. And also as a basketball player, I still have a lot of game left. I can help a team in any way they need."

AKA - Somebody pay me

But for shits and giggles - would you want to pay Amare a veterans minimum; if only to help Collins come along in some way?

So you think I’m being overly conservative with Nurk?

Yeah. But it’s not just you. Olshey has mentioned February but I think that’s just a conservative timeline so no one asks questions if there IS some sort of setback and/or he doesn’t return by their actual target date. I wouldn’t be surprised if he returned before the new year. It took George 8 months with an identical injury. That would put Nurk at the end of November. Yes I know Nurkic is heavier, but I doubt that’s going to add three extra months to his recovery. The fact that there was no ligament damage *should* make the recovery relatively clean.

Yes, that's precisely it. They now have very slim pickings available for their MLE which they could have simply used on Carroll. Do you see any FA's remaining that are better than a 6'10" 26-year-old who was 6th in the league in 3pt shooting last year?
