The Official CJ McCollum Thread

The problem with CJ is that he doesn't have any elite tools aside from shooting, which is streaky. If he shot isn't falling, he doesn't have the athleticism to step it up on defense or court vision to be dropping great assists.

The game is getting longer and more athletic. CJ plays small and not particularly fast. If he's not shooting at an elite level, the Blazers are always fighting an uphill battle with him in the lineup.

CJ is missing shots he's been making for his entire career; and for the past few years at an elite level.

I expect CJ to revert up to his norm. And it can't come soon enough.

I suspect CJ will be fine as well, he is certainly not having a good start of the season, but the sample size is still small.

I am certain that if it continues like that after 20 games - we will see a lot more of Simons / Trent.

Was the name of the thread on CJ the "Trade CJ thread" last year. We could probably go back and read all the comments and come up with the very same story. Maybe the Mod Gods could blend the two threads somehow?

@Labinot41 Are you going to answer my questions to you or are you ignoring them?
I do not waste my time with people who mention my mother in a basketball forum, that's Why I put this person on ignore. I've said everything that can be proven with statistics, and yes, these statistics are his Career average, and I have also written that he had only one season in which cj was better than his career average. Again: he had one season that is so far above his norms that you have to suspect that one season was an aberration and what he did last year and this year was a natural regression to norm. Whats so difficult to understand ?

Are you saying I said something about your mother or someone else? That doesn't sound like something I'd say to someone who wasn't a close friend.

Okay, lets discuss what you said...

You say CJ isn't a PG like he's doing something wrong. You do realize he's the team's starting shooting guard right? You say his skills don't match what a good PG should be. This season he's been almost exclusively used as a SG and they've gone away from having him be the primary ballhandler in the 2nd unit. His stats have gone down in that role. I posted Klay's stats in this thread. They are almost identical to McCollum's in every offensive category other than CJ is a better passer. Dame is the lead man on this team and also the starting PG so why do you keep saying that he has no value as a lead man or as a PG? Isn't that irrelevant to this conversation? So far this season he hasn't been the lead man on the 2nd unit (he did come into the game with the 2nd unit last game because he left the game early due to fouls but ET was mostly handling the ball) and he is struggling. So he's doing even worse in the role you want him to play.

What is the answer to that? Is it maybe just an adjustment period to a different role or is he actually better as the lead man? It's really hard to know the answer to that after just 5 games but you acting like his role isn't different this year is not helping your point.

This is what I am referring to. Your post made no sense in this thread but you don't want to explain yourself?

If he has you on ignore, it's not likely that he'll respond to you. But I agree, I can't find a post where you said anything about his mother...and believe me, I looked. Last time the two of you interacted in any significant amount was the Laker game thread, where you disputed his views on Zach Collins' 1st half performance. Didn't see any mama references in there either (or "mutter", as the case may be).

We are going to need him on top fotm tonight. Got a feeling it's going to be a shoot out.

Not you, the other Dude, read in the Heat Game Thread . I've said Everything you want to know about CJ

I did read that thread and you still don't make sense. This is why you're labeled a hater. I am trying to discuss what you said and you refuse.

BTW, you straight up tagged someone and called them a clown when they weren't even talking to you in that thread so you might not want to talk about what other people are saying.

I think the answer you’re looking for is twofold. CJ’s just in a shooting slump, as a gunner type, they are usually streaky, and he’s been pretty icy so far this year (I think this part will change). CJ has taken mostly shots he has made before.
The other part and maybe the somewhat dissapointing part is at this point in his career he still hasnt really found secondary skills that are Elite or starter level, his defense is bad, his rebounding is bad (he doesnt even try to block out fairly often), passing isnt great (I know he’s a 2g).

To me CJ is a very good start SG when he’s on, but when he’s off he is either invisible out there or visible for all the wrong reasons. Dont get me wrong, overall I think CJ’s a good player, and I he can get hot for a few games and the averages will play themselves out.
I just think the chances he becomes a true all around player are getting lower and lower.

Dude i was, and i'm still Zero interested to Talk with you and the other guy, Everytime i say my oppionion and I even prove it with statistics, you both think you stil right, i see no reason to waste more time with you two. We talked about CJ, Everything you want to know about him and his below Average efficiency stats is in the Heat Game Thread.

I asked you in this thread (which you are posting in about CJ) to discuss what you mean before your posts in that game thread. I was not being disrespectful in any way and you are telling me that you are simply choosing not to discuss it with me personally? Don't bring up my name like you did if you don't want to talk to me. To say that others think they're right for the reason you don't want to talk to someone is the dumbest shit I've ever heard. Every poster in here thinks their opinion is right.

Were my questions out of line? The truth is I don't think you can answer them so you are resorting to this bullshit about how you aren't going to say anything else.

Think whatever you want and think about CJ whatever you want, i really don't care

Exactly. When i see threads like this it makes me wonder how much basketball they know.

You don't "prove" an opinion with stats.

For those that actually want to talk about the thread topic, which is CJ....

Would you say he's going one on one more, less, or exactly the same amount as previous seasons?

Trying to stay on topic and no one responds to those posts lol.

Anyways. I think and I have 0 numbers to back it up its about the same. His offensive inefficiency is something I think will even out as the season goes along. He’s proven he can score, he may be streaky but eventually those shots will fall. The other aspects of his game Im not sure if they’ll get better.

Fine, if this how you're going to be just shut the fuck up about being called a hater and don't ever mention @BonesJones, @dviss1, or myself in your posts again if you are unwilling to have discussions with us.
Again for the 123486446th Time: READ THE FUCKING HEAT GAME THREAD!!!! I've written everything about CJ what needs to be said, all the statistics and my opinion about him as a player, if you still pretend that Cj is an efficient player, or even a good second option then you have no eye for reality

from what I've seen it look like he going 1o1 less. And I think he's looking to pass more too.

CJ is the second best asset this team has now, and you don't trade him unless its for another high caliber player that improves the team. Thats going to be hard to do, imo.

I have read the fucking game thread. You were asked to clarify one of your posts, which you didn't. Do my questions in this thread have anything to do with the statistics you posted in the other thread?

CJ is a top 5 ballhandler in this league.

1. Kyrie
2. Curry
3. Name somebody better than CJ... I'll wait...

In terms of dribble moves yes Except maybe Harden (I mean I hate the way he plays but he’s really good too).

Terms of who I want handling the ball well that to me is an interesting conversation.
