The Official CJ McCollum Thread

CJ is the second best asset this team has now, and you don't trade him unless its for another high caliber player that improves the team. Thats going to be hard to do, imo.
If Zach keeps up what he’s doing, he might get there. I realize its way too early to call that, but he’s been good so far.

I have read the fucking game thread. You were asked to clarify one of your posts, which you didn't. Do my questions in this thread have anything to do with the statistics you posted in the other thread?
To be fair someone in there did call his mom a clown. Just sayin’.

Trying to stay on topic and no one responds to those posts lol.

Anyways. I think and I have 0 numbers to back it up its about the same. His offensive inefficiency is something I think will even out as the season goes along. He’s proven he can score, he may be streaky but eventually those shots will fall. The other aspects of his game Im not sure if they’ll get better.
It's weird, I think you can definitely see that he is thinking too much about whether to shoot. Just the fact that he isn't playing with the 2nd unit as the PG you'd think his usage rate would go down but it's right in line with his career average. His turnover % is way down but so is his assist %. From my eye test it seems like I haven't thought he has over dribbled as much in year's past but is still taking his normal amount of shots. Maybe we should try just camping him in the corner for a quarter or something to see what happens.

Cj had the 10th ranked ts% on the team last year. That is not good efficiency.
And Lillard was 6th, do you consider him to not have good efficiency either? This is what happens when you cherry pick one stat from one season.

2 years ago, Dame and CJ had virtually the same TS% (.001 off). Is Dame not efficient either or could it possibly just be that TS% isn't the only stat that matters for efficiency?

Off the top of my head I dont remember a lot of like 8-9-10 dribbles by CJ to get a shot moments this year. I actually feel like he’s taken mostly shots he can make they just arent going in.

Weirdly enough I feel like CJ’s at his best when he takes like 3-4 dribbles and steps into his shot.

CJ is a top 5 ballhandler in this league.

1. Kyrie
2. Curry
3. Name somebody better than CJ... I'll wait...

This tool does not impact the game much if he is not hitting his shot or setting other people up. Since he has not really improved as an assist man, I think the original point still stands.

CJ's biggest contribution is scoring. When he is not scoring, at least so far this year, he has been a liability. I am a CJ fan, I believe he will snap out of it - but I think the criticism is fair.

I do not waste my time with people who mention my mother in a basketball forum, that's Why I put this person on ignore. I've said everything that can be proven with statistics, and yes, these statistics are his Career average, and I have also written that he had only one season in which cj was better than his career average. Again: he had one season that is so far above his norms that you have to suspect that one season was an aberration and what he did last year and this year was a natural regression to norm. Whats so difficult to understand ?

Really? I didn't mean anything by that man c'mon...

So.... What are his career numbers? Exactly....

MFs should know it's well known CJ had a down year last season.

It's irritating how y'all wanna cherry pick.

CJ is a good scorer BECAUSE of his ballhandling ability....

and if he is not scoring, it is not a tool that gives us much.. which is the original point that was made (and I was not even the one that made it).

Honestly, if someone is a great scorer - it does not matter if it is because of athletic ability, long-distance accuracy, footwork or ball-handling.

But, ball-handling by itself is only useful for the outcome of games in 2 ways - scoring and setting others - so, the original point made that CJ has one great attribute (scoring) and has not made advances in others (rebounding, setting people or defense) is valid.

For those that actually want to talk about the thread topic, which is CJ....

Would you say he's going one on one more, less, or exactly the same amount as previous seasons?
Less. Maybe he's trying to play within the flow more? If so, it appears to be messing up his timing. If it's something else, I hope he gets it straightened out soon.

Damians ts% was higher than the team average. Cjs was lower. Ts% is not cherry picking efficiency. It IS efficiency

Look it up actually. His 16-17 season was the aberration. The average of his others seasons was about the same as last season. So if anyone is cherry picking it's you. Mf.

Wow! What a difference when he plays well! Let's hope he brings it tomorrow against the Floppy Beard. We're gonna need it.

Soooo.... We gon' just gloss over his MIP season?

:dunno:

Rookie...

Learn the game then post.

Yes. That is totally what that post means.
Either you're being sarcastic which would disprove your theory that TS% "IS" efficiency or you are in fact admitting that CJ can be just as efficient as Dame. Which one is it?

Dame could be more efficient by reigning in his shot selection a bit.

TS% is just one measure of efficiency. There are others, but TS% is the easiest way to compare (especially dealing with different positions).

CJ is just not efficient. In the past 5 years, he's only had 1 season shooting above 0.545. I would say his 1 season shooting 0.585 is definitely an aboration.

I view anything less than 0.56 as inefficient.

Dame on the other hand, has only had 1 season below 0.560 (his rookie season). The last 2 years Dame has been right at 0.59. (Before tonight Dame was at 0.65!!! That is absolutely amazing!)

Dame is significantly more efficient than CJ.

You obviously didn't read the rest of the thread, I wasn't saying that.

I read most of it... and that is sure what it sounded like you were saying.

It appeared that you were questioning he people frustrated with CJ & cherry picking his best year as an example that he 'can be' as efficient as Dame. Their career numbers indicate that CJ cannot.

Either you're being sarcastic which would disprove your theory that TS% "IS" efficiency or you are in fact admitting that CJ can be just as efficient as Dame. Which one is it?
Sarcastic. Because my point was to show how cj efficiency is a net negative for the team, whereas Damian is positive because he's more efficient than the team as a whole. Having a lower ts% suggests you should be taking less shots.
