<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (redneck @ Mar 7 2007, 11:20 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>People have the perception that women in the middle east are treated bad because of the stuff seen on TV. there is a video of a Muslim woman being thrown over a balcony and she's holding onto the railing, and her husband is kicking her until she fell to her death. than of corse a few years ago there was a stoning in Iran that got a lot of international exposure and calls to suspend her death sentence. Also, in most islamic countries women have little to no legal rights.</div>Yeah - the things on TV isnt a representation of how they treat woman - its just a small speck. If I really wanted to - I could easily find things that are much worse than we've seen in a Muslim country. There is plenty of murder, domestic abuse, prostitution, etc to show - that doesn't mean the majority of the country treats woman badly. Also - I wasn't sure what your stance on the issue was...

On Iran or the rights of women in Muslim countries?

I think they are repressed, but for the most part everyone in the middle east is being repressed. that whole region of the world seems to be in a "dark age".

Yeah - man, they sure are in the dark ages:

Not technologically, but socially they are, especially if you compare it to East Asia, Europe or Northern North America. The Middle east is still a very violent place, they still have blood feuds, civil rights are small to none existant in most countries. Religion and superstition still effects politics, law, and daily lives(it does so in a lot of places but not to the extreme like in the middle east), Sanitation outside the major cities is very poor. though they aren't as bad as central Africa; there is a dark age for you.

you all are such assholes. I cant help it if the gov't on my natvie land is really fukcing stupid.

Thanks for all the respect u assholez</div>but we're disrespecting the countries, not you. The government is the part of the countries the outside world sees and middle eastern governments are full of mentally unstable sociopaths

Mardy where you born in Iran? where you parents born in Iran?

My parents were.

Talk to me! I don't want to be left out.

lol, ok. Do you get pissed off when people talk bad about Iran? I doubt you do,or you have never showed anything to the such on here. Most people on this board who live in America (or Canada) are immigrants from other lands. myself, I'm part Irish, Danish, Luxemborg, and Cherokee; yet I never get mad when people talk sh*t about those lands. why? because I have nothing in common with those places, my ancestors came from there but I don't, I have been to Denmark and Luxombourg; and yes they do suck. I have never been Ireland, but I have read and studied a lot about it, and yes it sucks too. so I really don't know why any gets offended when you say something negitive about a land, when the offended person has few actual connections to that land. One thing I have noticed, people of European and African decent seem to get offended less than people of Eastern and central American decent.

I kind of do get angry because most people who talk bad about it don't know what they are talking about. I still have family there and have been there a few times and it's not nearly as bad over there as people think even though I do like it here better. If my Farsi was better and I didn't feel so homesick going away from Arizona, I wouldn't mind living in Iran at all because it's really a nice place. A couple things I hate though, too many pickles in their hamburgers and no Mexican food.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (BrewCityBuck @ Mar 7 2007, 07:16 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>Chances are you don't know anything about Iran. Iran is much more moderate than people think.</div>I know enough about Iran to know that they treat their women like sh*t. In their terms, a woman is equal to half a man. In their courts, they need two women to testify against a male. There are alot of problems in that country.

lmao I was just bored and joking around. Im not from Iran...lol.I was just saying that because you guys should really watch what you say, even if you like the country or not, because you shouldnt be bashing some countries that people may be from.Bashing their government is one thing, but their way of life is another. I'm sorry if another country or culture lives the way they do, but that's their thing, and IMO should be accepted.

Do you have any points or any conclusive evidence to back this up or are you just saying that? You say they don't treat them like sh*t there but you don't counter what I said about women being half-equal to men and the idiotic rulings with women in the courts as if you think that is ok...

I think women are opressed in much of the middle east, men are clearly dominant and women aren't nearly as educated or in places of power. There are obviously exceptions (Jordan for instance)...but in general I think women in the middle east are stuck in the position American women were in, in the early 1900's...

But that doesn't make it alright. It's just a depressing thought when you think about how women are treated over there. Then again, that is the least of the problems when you are living in fear of suicide bombings, attacks etc.

Men have a more power in government, yes, but we haven't had a women president here either even though they have more options in a political career here. No one really lives in fear of suicide bombing there, they just live a normal life. I don't know how terrible you must think life is over there, but it's pretty good. And new computer games are like 2-4 bucks in American dollars! W00t!

Do you have any idea how big the middle east is? Most people in the middle east have never seen a suicide bombing. Most of the middle east is completely normal/peaceful. I meant just violence in general but regardless why wouldn't they fear it. Most of the middle east is completely peaceful...yeah right. About watching media report ugly...I don't watch the news because all they do is show the bad to make it look like we are losing and make Bush look bad. Except Fox News of course.

Bush is bad, what do you want them to say?And I gotta agree with BCB, I know what he's saying. Lakersfan is acting like they are dropping bombs 24/7...I mean, yeah, in Baghdad because we are in war there (over nothing) but not in other places.
